  1. scope link I just got this scope and mounted it on my 223 saiga. It's a Pentex but they are made in china. I'm going to shoot with it sunday for the 1st time. The lenses seem really clear. I like it. I got mine on ebay from a place called camera land in NYC. It was $95 shipped. Here's there website. camera land They have demos that haven't been mounted for $85 plus shipping. The pic is wrong on this link by the way. Mark
  2. In california assault weapons are listed by make and model or by if they have certain "evil" features. The listing for illegal saiga's is "Kalishnikov USA saiga". RRA saiga's and EAA saiga's aren't listed and they don't have any of the assault weapon features. Most dealers in cali won't touch them but there are a few who will. Here's some more info from the cal guns forum. You can always ask more questions over there. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=56818 Mark

  3. I have a keltec su-16 and does have it's share of extraction problems. First off the barrels aren't chrome which a big part of the problem. My rifle will get a shell stuck so tight the extractor will rip a chunk out of the rim. I have found that before I go shooting with it I need to clean the chamber really good with a chamber brush and brake cleaner. Also I need to stick with either brass case or steel case for that shooting session or it seems like I have problems. It's too bad because it's a cool little rifle and the trigger is better than a stock saiga. It is mainly a range gun just because of the reliabilty issues. I have also talked to Kel-Tec about steel case ammo and they say not to use it because of extraction issues not receivers blowing up. They are probably getting tired of people sending rifles back for extraction problems because of steel case ammo. Now my saiga will eat just about anything all day long. Mark

  4. I'm just curious about the different plastic ak style mags if they were even around before 1994. I always thought ak mags were steel until I got interested in saigas. I'm well aware that there are different rules on mags and capacity for some of the states that are crime free utopias. Mark

  5. Assault rifles are supposed to be listed by make and model in california or have certain features which a stock saiga doesn't have. There is a listing for "kalashinikov usa" saiga. There isn't a listing for "russian american amory" or "european amory" saigas. All three are identical because they are made by izmash(I think that's right) but they have different importers. So technically only "kalashnikov usa" versions are illegal because the DOJ listed by importer not manufacturer. Here's some more info, look at the Harrot decision part. http://calguns.net/a_california_arak.htm Mark

  6. I have both a .223 saiga and a keltec. My keltec also has had it's share of extractor problems. I changed the extractor to a stag ar extractor. Also before I take the keltec shooting I clean the chamber with brake cleaner and an ar chamber brush which seems to eliminate the problem. The saiga is totally reliable but it does tend to bang up the brass and throw it far which can be a problem if you reload. Wolf works fine in the saiga. Accuracy wise the two rifles are pretty close with maybe a slight edge going

to the keltec. The keltec has a better trigger pull. It is shorter and lighter. The saiga trigger isn't bad but it is more like a good sks trigger where it is long but predictable. Mag changes are much easier and faster on the keltec than the saiga, you have to rock the saiga mags in. That said if I had to choose between the two I would give the edge to the saiga because of reliability with any ammo. I like my keltec but extraction issues have been a problem. Mark

  7. Just to the left of the bolt handle on the bolt is where the shells hit. If you look you will see how it has a sharp edge and that's where the brass gets dented. It lines up with the extractor. On my saiga I rounded that edge slightly with a file. The brass now is in pretty good shape instead having the big dent. My problem is finding the brass. My rifle really flings the brass. Mark
