Uhm.... the Saiga's pretty well munge the brass so it's not reusable. Bill True, but if you search the board there are suggestions on how to modify the mechanism (forget exactly which piece) to eliminate the case denting. Anyone know which parts need to be changed in order to be able to reload saiga brass?

So do you all recommend breaking down/cleaning past the "field stripping?" I was going to, but I had some trouble getting the fore end off. I took the sling ring off, but it still would not slide forward. Also, from what I understood in the owners manual, all that was needed for lubrication was to wipe the parts with a break free rag. It didnt say anything about using any more oil then that, do you all recommend using drops of oil anywhere? Thanks

Hey all, I am going to pick up my .223 today, and I was wondering if there is any initial maintenance that you all recommend before the first shots are fired? I know to read the users manual, is there anything else I should do? Should I do an initial cleaning? Thanks

What pistol grips does everyone here like? Which ones should be avoided?

Thanks for the info guys! I am just a little bit timid about messing with a firearm as I have never done anything like it before. The good news is that I put my .223 on layaway today!!! I just have to get my tax refund and I can take her home. I talked with the guy at the shop today and he said that the Saiga's are already "opened up" to accept high cap mags, does anyone know the truth behind this? Also which mod should I plan on doing first? I would like to put a pistol grip on as well as modify it for 30 round mags.

Hey everyone, First post here and I wanted to thank you all for the great information provided here. I am considering buying a Saiga .223, but I am concerned about the reliability of the rifle after the conversion is done. I would like to put a pistol grip on the rifle and also be able to use 30 round mags. Have those of you with do it yourself conversions had any problems with reliability? What troubles have you had? Also, what should I expect for average price for .223 rounds? Thanks in advance.
