  1. I do not know about the correctness of the term 'neck', but the technical term for the 'long neck' and 'short neck' shells are 'high brass' and 'low brass'.

Compare Remington express long range (high brass) with Remington heavy dove (low brass).

I shoot remington heavy dove for birdshot.... no cycling issues.

  2. So I just want to be clear on this, but on the newer Saiga's, for the pistol grip conversion...Once you get the trigger guard and plate off, the rest just bolts right up? The original 'how to' website I found showed a bunch of drilling and cutting to make the holes for the new trigger assembly. But then I just found one on youtube and then looked at my S20 and it looks like the holes are precut, just the trigger guard is welded over them. Can anybody varify this or am I going to have to do the conversion and find out the hard way? :haha:

You will probably only have to cut a pistol grip nut hole, the trigger holes are already there.

  3. Looking at the poly-choke at Saigastock, how does it attach? Or am I just blind? Pictures would be awesome :)

It screws onto the factory threads (assuming you have a newish s-20, imported '04 or later I believe). If you have an older S-20 you would have to thread your barrel or have it welded on.

    I'll post pics asap...

  4. I have the CAI yugo underfolder also, best built AK I have ever held. A friend of mine told me the reason CAI's have such a bad rep is that some of their early guns didn't have fully tempered receivers so they got beat up inside and stopped working, but this is no longer the case.

  5. get the stand alone front sight from this website and a brake from dinzagarms or a polychoke. I wouldn't saw off the barrel... If it will fit on an unthreaded barrel it will fit on external threaded barrel (they have the same OD), you just run the risk of fucking up the threads.

if you do decide to saw off the barrel make sure its not a 19" model, you dont want any jail time for a brake.

  6. I belive the reason for the extra 1/2" of barrel length was because OAL is often measured with a tape measure, and that little steel endpiece on the tape is often rivited on very loosely. This makes the tapemeasure innacurate and results in meaurements on the short side of the actual length, sometimes by 1/4" or more.

I have been told (by a local atf agent) they have a 16" / 18" precut steel rod to measure barrels. They slide the rod down the barrel and rest the bottom end against the bolt face. This is the standard barrel length measuring technique.

As for leaving an extra 1/4"-1/2", is a 1/2" of barrel seriously worth your anal virginity? What if the bolt is slightly hung and wont push all the way closed? I know my saiga does if I let it gently close. Sure, it cant fire in that configuration but since when has batfe let common sense enter into the situation?

  7. received my poly choke today. looks nice, installed easily (although I think they sent me the wrong wrench) but it does add 2" to the barrel (with vented sleeve). Hopefully I'll get a chance to pattern it next week, and I'll try and take a picture.

  8. I've ran 250 rounds in one sitting and probably 500 rounds w/o cleaning the gas tube.... I also shoot Remington heavy dove. I've never had a problem.

Bigger/more gas ports would just result in more crap in your gas system.

    reasons for more crap:

    1. more crap in a shotgun shell than a rifle round(powder, wadding)

    2. Different powder burns differently... flake vs extruded... in my experience flake leaves more crap behind in general

    3. Longer barrels and lower muzzle velocity = more time under pressure, more time for shit to wander into gas tube

About the only serious change from ak to saiga shotty is the addition of the little steel cylinder that improves the seal and reduces the shit that gets back into the receiver... I have a hard time seeing this as a bad thing, I much prefer cleaning a gas tube to cleaning shit out of springs and trigger groups. My saiga has been crazy reliable and god for bid I'm ever in a firefight that requires me to shoot over 500 rounds of shotgun shells without a break long enough to swab out the gas system....

  9. I have a yugo m70 underfolder that I just love, but when shooting it prone or sitting I tend to let it wander over my collar bone and that sheet metal stock is supremely punishing against bones. Does anybody know of any recoil pads for this type of stock? I don't need much, just 1/8" or 1/4" of soft rubber to take a little out of it. I have thought of using some medical tubing, but I'd prefer something that doesn't look like ass....

  10. I've had a P-01 for about a year now. I love it. You will not regret your purchase, even some of my friends who are .45 lovers cant deny its a wonderful gun.

I've put probably 2k rounds through it and have had 2 FTE's that may have been limp wrists.

I like to feed mine Remington 115gr UMC (250 ct yellow box) at the range and speer gold dot +P+ 124gr at home.

why does your gun not have the NSN in the first pictures? which picture is your gun the first set or this last set?

  11. I love my S-20, its compact, controllable and some serious firepower. However the lack of high cap magazines infuriates me (and the thought of gambling $100 worth of factory mags to get 1 9rd mag makes me sick). I would get a 12ga if I had to do it again. However if the s20 10rd and 20rd mags make it out this fall... then I will be very happy with my purchase.
