Other than the fact they are uglier than shit they are a decent gun for the price. My Bro in law bought one for $100. a couple weeks ago that would lock the slide back after every shot. The spring was gone that activates the slide lock. Found a small spring and fires like a champ now.

Yep that would be the same one. The OEM supplied the guts for the XM26 shell. Good buy does it feel as sturdy as the OEM

Are you using 3"(76mm) shells or 2.5" (64mm)? 2.5" require a different magazine and will not feed from a mag designed for 3"

Sounds like you are talking about the 308 ver 21. You got a pretty fair deal if so. Some don't like the slant cut receiver.

First thing I would like to say is welcome to the forum. The second thing I would like to say is that Saiga's have been known to cause OCD to normally perfect people as one cannot leave it alone long enough.
I would say to use your best judgement. As long as you are following gun safety to the fullest such as clearing your chamber as well as keeping the firearm pointed in a safe direction then I would not see a problem. The fact that you stated about checking 6 times to check for clear chamber is acutally a good thing as one cannot be too safe. It may be wise to have a buddy with you at the range.

Volquartsen extended mag release and auto bolt release are my biggest upgrades other than a cheap ATI draganov stock. It's my mini sniper rifle.
