  1. Well, I finally got to shoot my Saiga about a week ago. When I went to clean it, it was damn near impossible to get the cover off. Putting it back on was a pain too - I had to slam it down to make it lock on. I opened it up again and it was easier, so I did it a few more times thinking it'd loosen up. Unfortunately, what happened is that from slamming down the cover a bit of the metal bent and now it's even harder to assemble and disassemble. Just a small part of the edge is bent. I want to fix it without making it worse - should I just take a hammer to it?
  2. It's a post-ban magazine, but it's being shipped to Alaska. I was just wondering if I could take or ship it on my own back to NY. What is "the conversion"? What happens if it's not 922r compliant - will gun ranges not let you shoot it?
  3. I just ordered a 30 round magazine to be sent to my partner's address in Alaska - I was told they couldn't ship it to New York, where I live. Is it illegal to transport the magazine in my stow-away luggage back to NY, or could I UPS it over? Is it just illegal to buy, or will I be unable to use it at the range? Also, is it illegal in Connecticut?
  4. I'm on Long Island, which isn't really a great place to own a firearm - the soccer moms are out of control here! As for modifying the gun, I've been looking through the forums here and I'd really like to add a pistol grip, 30 round magazine and a new handguard - it could take me a while to figure it out, though. Thanks again for all your input. Oh, and the Kalashnikitty picture pwns.
  5. Thanks for the replies and welcome - I'm guessing the additional accuracy won't matter much at this point. I'm in NY, so I won't be shooting with any of you guys any time soon, but I'll definitely be posting once I get more acquainted with the rifle.
  6. I just bought my first firearm. I didn't know what to get because I'm a noob, but after being shown a bunch of dinky BB-gun looking rifles, I ended up with a Saiga 20" 7.62 x 39 rifle. I haven't fired it yet - waiting on a friend to show me the ropes - but I'm psyched. So for my question: can you explain the difference between the 20" and the 16" in terms that someone who knows nothing about guns could understand? Also, is there a basic FAQ about the gun that you'd recommend? Attached is a pic of me with the rifle.
