  1. Is there ANYONE out there that might have a CLUE as to where one could purchase the SABOTS to reload your own shotgun shell sabot loads? I am thinking to use a sabot to allow the use of a .45-70 or a .50 (.511) Caliber bullet in a 12 gauge for hunting rounds???

I just cant seem to locate anyplace on the web that offers EXACTLY what I am looking for. I suppose if worse comes to worse, I will have to design a sabot, and take the plans to a local injection moulding shop, and see what they can do for me. I just dont want to have to spend a few hundred bucks on setup fees, and then several hundred more to purchase multiple thousand sabots.

Although.... I suppose if an ACCURATE and workable load can be worked up... the aftermarket sales potential to reloaders everywhere might cover those costs in the long run!

ANY input on this would be appreciated!

    THANKS!!!!

  2. OH MAN!!!! I just *LOVE THIS*

    6. The possession of five or more firearms by any person is

presumptive evidence that such person possessed the firearms with the

    intent to sell same.

Seems that 95% of the time I go to the shooting range, I am going there with INTENT TO SELL FIREARMS!

    IMAGINE THAT!!!!

  3. Hmm.... interesting...

I always thought it was almost the same thing as far as ther BATF went... considering the PG and the thumbhole and a dragunov style stock design.

I forget which thread had it listed, but the BATF actually replied to someone about their question of a Choate dragunov stock as being "pistol grip protruding, and therefore evil"

But, I guess a "thumbhole" is considered a "sporting" stock... so its in the "good parts" category.

SO... as long as my AK came with a pistol grip standard from the motherland, I can put ANY type of stock on it I want, without having to change up ANY internal parts.

Thats what seems to be the case here...

  4. My hats off to you if you can hone a blade well by eye... that is honestly NOT an easy thing to do to get them to come out RIGHT all the time.. thats why I have a lansky.. I just cant eyeball it and keep the angle exact time after time...

The ONLY other person I know that can sharpen a knife on a table stone is my friends father... but then hes also been doing it for 50 years... so...

Personally I have *NEVER* been able to use the sharpening rod, myself, either... so if you can use that.. I also salute you too.. That ones gotta be tough.. never could quite grasp the hang of that one either... LOL

As far as honing with the Lansky... once you get the angle.. if it gets dull, it just takes a FEW SECONDS with the ultra fine stone to touch it back up and return it to a shaving sharp edge!

  5. OK, folks... let me ask anyone that cares to respond to this a quick question.

When you buy an AK, or WASR, or similar design rifle, that is imported with a pistol grip stock, It is obviously legal in that configuration. Since you can also buy them brand new in the configuration of a thumbhole, or a dragunov style stock, they are also legal as well!

So... would that mean, then, that any imported AK style or variant ( not including the saiga) could have the stocks switched up, from the original PG to a thumbhole, or from a thumbhole to a PG, or a Dragunov style without being in any violations of any laws?

  6. Locally, the cheapest crap Wasr was running ~$400!

WOW!!! I dunno where you are getting your romanian WASR rifles, I just picked up an "AFTERBAN" model, two 30 round magazines, laminated furniture, angled muzzlebreak, AND a bayonet mount, and bayonet. plus all the extras.. cleaning kit, bayonet scabbard, frog, etc...etc....

    $319.00

As far as I am concerned... thats CHEAP!

I tossed a scope on it, and was able to shoot 1" groups at 50 yards EASILY. With Wolf FMJ-HP ammo. At 100 yards, I was looking at 2" groups standard. Still... for an AK... thats DECENT.

True, I like to tinker as well... but honestly, I find it easier to jst buy it already done that gives you more time to go shooting! :)

  7. I need to save my pennies, then.... Cause I think a GE Minigun will make the PERFECT home defense weapon!

mount that bad boy on the roof, with a laser tracking sight... and a joystick control... It doesnt have to have any bullets IN IT.... just the PRESENCE will deter most folks from even DRIVING down your road!!!

Thanks for the post, though... I will look into that...$200 for the tax stamp is easy...

and a few month wait for the paperwork is also no problem...

so do I apply for the paperwork and send in my $200.00, and then FINALLY when they send me back the deal, I have to have local police sign off on it? or they have to do all that before I send it in to the ATF?

Paperwork was always a pain in the ass... LOL

  8. Ok... I just noticed there was another thread posted down a ways here pretty much saying the same thing as I was wondering...SOunds like my inkling was CORRECT... the BUSHMASTER it is...

NOW... lets talk about that 5.56 vs. .223 thing....

The GUN needs to be chambered for 5.56 MM. ammo, and NOT .223 as 5.56 is .223 caliber, but the cartridge generates a higher pressure, it will allow me to shoot milsurp loads, *AND* sporting .223 rounds as well... If the gun is chambered for .223 then It can ONLY shoot the sporting rounds and the 5.56 milsurp is OUT!

    IS THAT CORRECT????

  9. Ok folks.... heres the deal...

I am looking to purchase a NEW AR15 style .223 varmint rifle in a month. I am looking to go with the AR15 package, as I will be able to swap out uppers and virtually have any caliber rifle I want... ( within reason)

Yeah, I know I COULD get a saiga .223... but I WANT the versatility of the swappable upper. That and a stainless fluted 24" bull barrel just gives me GUN WOOD...

    ANYWAYS.... HERE IS THE QUESTION.....

If you had $2000.00 to spend on ONE AR15 style rifle, WHOSE would you buy????

I am thinking of going with the BUSHMASTER... http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/weapons/lr-24v.asp

Although ROCK RIVER won the military contract....

    although, perhaps, an ARMALITE...

    OR ya got

    COLT

    OLYMPIC

    VULCAN

    DPMS

    ASA

    EAGLE

    SO...

    SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM....

What I want is something more definitive than just "I like the looks of this" or "blah blah blah" I really hope someone can give me some solid data that I can use to compare and contrast my purchase. I would like to make an educated decision when spending a thousand bucks on a toy to play with.

  10. I have the ROMAK 3.... in 54R... would like to get a SECOND in .308!!!!

I have shot Czeck silver tip and Wolf, as well as the corrossive albanian stuff.. that stuff had me scared... I would actually clean the gun at the RANGE... and then again when I got it home!!! talk about nasty... now it gets nothing but Wolf 148Gr.

They shoot DECENTLY...I would say an AVERAGE of 1.5" groups at 100 yards with a 4x stock scope. I KNOW I could squeeze that down to a .5-.75 group if I reloaded my own ammo.

the Czeck silver tip shoot JUST as good, and I still have about 700 rounds of it... but thats MILDLY corrossive... and for a $700.00 rifle, I prefer to just use the NON worrysome stuff, and save the czeck ammo for a shootin party... when I KNOW I am going to be shooting LOTS and LOTS of it in one day...

DO NOT and I REPEAT.... *DO* *NOT* Shoot the heavy ball ammo out of your ROMAK3... they are DESIGNED for the 146-148 Gr. ammo ONLY!!! not the heavy 180-200 stuff that was made for the mosin nagant bolt action rifles. Your bolt and bolt carrier as well as your receiver will APPRECIATE the lighter stuff... It will HANDLE the heavy ammo...for a while... it is just NOT RECOMMENDED..

I posted someplace else my feelings on the gun.. but to recap... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING... I LOVE the feel, and they way it holds... it doesnt kick at all just a mild PUSH... not a bone jarring KICK... the only downside I can mention is it is FARKIN LOUD!!!! *WEAR EAR PROTECTION!*

Any other ??'s please email me... I would recommend one of EACH to anyone!!!

  11. OH.... and by the way... I forget WHO said it... but yeah.. the new steel lip mags are the same price as the EAGLE mags WITHOUT STEEL LIPS were BEFORE the ban... so buy em up now.. and enjoy them!!! I remember paying almost 30 bucks for the Eagle mags after tax and all at the local sportinggoods stores. Now they can be had for 15-18 bucks... thats a decent price, considering the two I have on my ruger are the plastic lipped versions, and STILL feed beautifully! I just ordered another pair of the eagle JUST like those... and a pair of the butler creek with the steel feedlips. gotta LOVE IT!!!!

  12. Go with the Ruger... you cant go wrong as far as stuff out there to customize them. With the AWB theres lots more stuff available for them again, like there used to be... Heres a pic of my "BABY". Bought this gun over 20 years ago.. and customized it immediately.. WIsh I could still get muzzlebreaks like that now.. I see eagle breaks out that are similar, but NOT like this one...

I also have a brand new Stainless 20 " barreled Ruger 10/22, doesnt shoot any better than my 20 year old gun. both are great like bvamp says for shotgun shells at 50 yards, or a soda can EASILY at 100... but how much more do you need out of a .22 at 100 yards? a sniper rifle it is not!

Let me know what ya think of my old custom ruger. :smoke:

    rugercustom.jpg

  13. SO why not just go out and get a small machined stamp that says "made in the USA" and go stamp all the peices you want to say that... and you are GOLDEN!

Seems a LOT simpler than worrying about which part is which...import or USA...

take it apart, stamp the shit out of the ones ya can... reassemble.. easy! :smoke:

yeah, so ya might have to remove a serial number or two first... shrug...LOL

  14. wait a sec here...

Can you fill me in on the statutes, please... The way you make it sound... ANYONE can have a full auto gun if it was made before 1986. obviously it would have to be MANUFACTURED as a full auto, and not a semi auto conversion... am I right on that part?

Still, that doesnt seem right to me... dont you still need to have special tax stamps, or permits? or whats the deal there?

I honestly DONT KNOW... and it makes me VERY curious.

  15. The diamond stones DO need to be replaced now and then, I have never had to replace mine yet... and I have sharpened hundreds of knives on them.. the standard stones will ALSO need to be replaced as they will get a dent worn into them, and be unable to hold the correct sharpening angle.

They ARE more agressive than the standard bits... BUT... that just means you can use a FINER stone, for LESS time, to acheive the same results that a coarser stone in the standard kit would produce in more time, as you will need to graduate to finer stones and obviously need more of them, to get to the level you desire at the end for final sharpness.

For me, I always start with a MEDIUM diamond, to get my first angle. then the fine diamond, then the sapphire to polish the hone. I have NEVER had to use the coarse diamond yet... never had a knife that was that far out of whack to either a 30, 25, or a 20 degree edge to begin with.

I think the coarse diamond would be good for use against an unsharpened type blade as far as building your own knives from a steel blade blank.
