  1. I have one on my SKS... a 3-9X40 shorty. Its nice.. the only thing I DONT like about it is the duplex ranging reticle... mind you I love a duplex reticle...This one... well, the thin crosshair is just not as thin as I would like, and at 100 yards covers a full minute of angle.

Not quite as CRISP as I would like on a HUNTING gun.... but on an SKS plinker, its acceptable.

Also, thats how they at NCSTAR say you can use the scope to rangefind with the duplex reticle, and the gradient lines on it...

so take it for what it is.. its a decent scope..

  2. I would buy a TH1-1103 in a minute!!! ( and like someone else said..) Just gives me an excuse to buy another Saiga!!! Let us know if they are for sale!!! I want one!!!

    hehehe

    get your friend building them!!!

  3. I have done the drag stock mod to my Saiga .410. and I had to mess with the trigger group, and move it ahead a few inches. It wasnt all that difficult. I just had to have a different trigger mechanism to drop in. all you really need is a drill press, a dremel tool, a trigger group, and some time. as well as another stock to pop onto it.

  4. Ya know.... its too bad we gun owners cant get together and vote in candidates of *OUR* choosing... ones that like us, enjoy a lil wilder looking gun... candidates that are willing to allow us to build the guns we want... ALAS... tis but a pipe dream, for we all know that "We the people", have really VERY LITTLE SAY in who gets voted in or not.. Whether we WANT them in or not...we try... we try....

At least the AWB has died... thats a start... with luck, maybe things will be looking up for us in the not too distant future!

  5. Post the link for us lazybones' out here!

I have never ordered from them... chances are they are out of stock... seems like thats ALWAYS THE CASE for stuff ya REALLY WANT BAD, when its at a reasonable price...

Speaking of that... anyone know where I can get one of them ORIGINAL *LONG* eagle muzzlebreaks for my ruger 10/22 in STAINLESS??? but its gotta be the LONG EAGLE... the kind they made 20 years ago... like the BLACK on I have on my ruger carbine... cant even FIND those babies anymore!

  6. how does one tell the difference from a US made part and a stock russian one? do they actually SAY "Made in USA " on them? I see so much of this trade up parts for parts stuf on the forums.. but honestly, I have NO CLUE how anyone can tell the difference. other than the stampings of the serial number on all the peices, or a stamp that, like I said, says "made in USA" on it.

How does one tell the DIFFERENCE?

  7. As an owner of a romanian PSL sniper rifle in 7.62X54R, I can tell ya it is an incredibly SWEET gun. I have a saiga .410 already, but they will need to really step up to the plate to make theirs much better... The PSL has virtually ZERO recoil kick from a benchrest shooting position, and considering the size of the casing, that is saying something. Mine, having only shot milsurp czeck silver tip, and wolf, is quite accurate insofar as I can get 1.5 inch groups CONSISTENTLY at 100 yards with the stock 4X scope that came with it from the factory. Were I to be reloading my own ammo, I am SURE I could squeeze that number down to 1" or maybe even 3/4" It is an ABSOLUTE PLEASURE to shoot, it fits the hand and the body like it was made to be a part of the shooter. Just wear hearing protection... that SOB has got to be *THE* loudest gun I have ever shot... even when faced up against the Lazzaroni .308 Warbird, and a .300 Winchester magnum.

I LOVE my PSL and if Saiga can make a shooter that equals it in the accuracy and comfort range they TRULY will have a WINNER!!!!

  8. Why dont people just buy an AK if they want an AK? I know where you can buy a romanian built AK for $189 bucks! yeah, its not a "GOOD ONE" but its a shooter... and you wont be afraid to take it out and get it DIRTY...and its already got the pistol grip and everything else just the way a saiga conversion would be after its converted. The only reason I converted MY saiga .410 was because I could.. and I REALLY didnt like the stock style on it. I wanted something else.

didnt cost me only 15 bucks for the dragunov style stock, 10 bucks for a different trigger group, and about 2 hours in the workshop. oh... I forgot...35 cents for black screws to fill in the empty rivet holes.

  9. I have seveeral weapons in 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R calibers. I have an SKS and an AK-47 in the 39, as well as a Mosin Nagant M-91/30 and a Romanian PSL sniper rifle in 54R. as far as price and availability go... what they said is about right on the money. its a toss up for .308 vs 7.62 they are EVERYWHERE, except in small towns at the ammo shop, you will be able to get .308 and prolly NOT 7.62. As far as recoil goes, any semi auto is going to kick a heck of a lot less than any bolt action. Try the lighter loads thru your MN bolt action, the 146-148 grain wolf or the milsurp czeck silver tip dont kick too bad out of my nagant. not like the heavy ball 180 - 200 grain stuff will. but you CANT shoot that out of the PSL or you will make it very unhappy, they were designed to shoot the light ball ammo.

I would say go with the .308 FIRST, only because it will give you the accuracy you want, as well as a hunting rifle of a better caliber ( no pun intended) than the 7.62.

If you liek the way it handles and shoots, THEN grab up a Saiga 7.62X39 and you will have a FUN little plinker besides.

  10. I agree! I can open all my one handers AS FAST if not FASTER than a lot of the autos out there. I guess its the intimidation factor... the SNAP of the switchblade.. or whatever.. Although, anyone threatening with a knife whether its an auto, one handed opener, or out of the kitchen drawer..is still a knife... to me a knife is a knife.. auto or not.. whats the big deal? although.. in NYS.. you *ARE* permitted to carry a switchblade if you are going fishing, in the act of fishing, or returning from fishing, and you have your valid fishing license upon your person. Looked up the statutes myself, and LO and behold it DOES SAY a switchblade is legal carry in that situation!

    go figure!

  11. Ok, folks... what is your FAVORITE stock configuration. I see almost *ALL* the posts here for conversions are of you trying to convert a Saiga to take a standard style AK stock and a pistol Grip... I see none with anyone wanting to put on a Thumbhole, or a Dragunov style.. ( Like my conversion has).

So.. Why the PG preference? a desire to make it more "AK" like? or??

I am just honestly curious here as to your personal preferences and why.

Share with the rest of us your thoughts and feelings on this.. maybe it will enlighten some of us to different ways of thinking about similar topics.

My personal pref is the thumbhole.. dunno why.. I just think it looks VERY COOL!

as far as my conversion.. I didnt have a thumbhole to put on the Saiga .410... but I do now... bought TWO of them.. will screw right on, no fuss no muss! just put on on my AK-47... and I LOVE the way it feels to shoot now.. but again.. JUST my PREF..

  12. I dont think EBAY is anti gun... I just think since they are based out of cali, they get SCREWED into having to comply with california mandates and restrictions.

I know since the AWB has died they have LAXED in their restrictions of what they can sell now compared to what they could before... suprisingly so.

I see LOTS of high cap mags for the AK and SKS available now, that had to be posted as a "5 rounder" before, to comply with "EBAY policy guidelines"

whether these few I see are exceptions and have slipped thru the cracks, so to speak.. or are actually allowed now.. remains to be seen in how future postings go. BUT... as I said.. there seem to be more and more high cap mags posted there that STATE a high cap ability!

Ebay irritates me with their crap though... busted an auction I had posted for a Microtech Nemesis with an Original W. Brend Grind.. they pulled the auction and refunded my fees.. best part is, enough folks saw it, and got my email, it sold for $740.00 anyways.. LOL... F-U Ebay! LOL... Allowed me extra play money to buy SEVERAL more guns!

  13. The trick is to be able to not feel any recoil when bench shooting...

start with putting random numbers of rounds into your magazines before shooting.. if ya flinch when it goes click you need more work... after that, when you are able to not flinch, even with high power stuff.. the recoil will soon fade.

My theory... and the trick... just KEEP ON SHOOTING!!!!

The more you shoot the less you notice things like bench recoil and it just fades away in the fun!

OH... dont forget to time your shots between heartbeats...specially with them high power scopes. LOL

  14. Tracers have only PAINT on the outside to IDENTIFY them, visually. They contain a core of PHOSPHORUS with other chemicals, to give off the proper color. Phosphorus is one compound you do NOT want to be messing with... unless you LIKE third degree burns. As previously posted.. leave building the tracer rounds to the military, and buy them aftermarket to reload your own! They are always available in many calibers. I have purchased .308 diameter tracer slugs on the net. They werent cheap, but they did the job! reloaded well, and almost ALL of them did indeed work as they were supposed to.

  15. AT THE BEGINNING, you were asking about headstamp identification... Check these links out, they will get you ID'ing accurately in NO TIME! :)

I used to have a site that had hundreds of ACTUAL PICTURES of the headstamps, but of course... that link is long gone.. and forgotten.. but it wasnt THAT long ago I was looking at it, perhaps one of you can find it again...
