What's your definition of "work"? Anything that distributes the exhaust gases away from directly forward is a functioning flash hider. It will reduce the "flash print" (also dust print) as seen from in front of the muzzle. However, a flash hider vents the flash into the shooter's view, so it's not like the flash is hidden: it's dispersed. Watch a movie like Underworld or Blade and you'll see flash-hiders in action. They create a smaller star-shaped blast instead of spewing flames forward.
I must respectfully disagree with this information. A flash-hider's primary function is hiding the flash from the shooter, not the shootee. While flash IS significantly reduced, its almost impossible to hide the flash at night from anyone who's looking at your position. Watching muzzle flashes at night, you can't really conceive of how someone could hide that from a non-blind person.

Dude, seriously, the fact that we can't buy tickets to space yet, is the friggin' letdown of the century. We poured all our hopes and dreams into outer space, and those damn clowns and NASA squandered it all. I'll bet those M60's on the shuttle don't even work. Foam keeps slamming into the barrel or some shit like that.

Sign me up. Where do I buy them?
Oh, and can I sabot .50 caliber API bullet into them?
B-)
ok "saboting" a .50 bmg into anything sounds crazy..but with that case it looks do able
You know damn well this board is all about the crazy. I guess maybe there's not such thing as a sabot for the .50. Unless there are saboted 20mm rounds. Hrmm....

I'm quite familiar with metal elasticities thank you. Bending has never been the concern with mounting things to the AK dust cover, although, if I understand you correctly, you seek to mount to the rear sight base, which is pretty cool. To tell you the truth, I'd buy it. I just don't really like the idea of potentiall raising the AK sight plane.

California, here I come!!
No, my understanding is that it's not even a typical production item in Russia.

Oh Jeez.....where do we even begin with this one?

Whoa. I don't know that it has a name yet, but if you search the forum, you'll find a thread about a .50 BMG case blown out to 12 ga. For what its worth though, it doesn't look like that cartridge can properly fit the S-12 mag. It looks like its just been cramme din for a photo-op.It looks a little too big to be .50 phantom or .50 beowulf though....

Is it the same receiver as the Saiga .308 first gen?
-
Question....did they make the top half of the HALO separable?
And what flavor of aluminum did they eventually pick?

Basically, an ARMS SIR for the AK.
Exactly. anything like that for the Saiga12 that anyone knows about? I have surfed the net for them & never seen any. Sounds like this would be the first attempt of such a thing (that I know of anyway)
I'm afraid I don't think so. There's no real tactical advantage to it on the AK platform, certainly not on a shotgun, and "cool factor" can only drive manufacturing so far.
The stabilize the back end of the rail you'd either have to stick it to the dust cover, or side mount...or SOMETHING.

Aegis,
Heheh. If you cap a few cops while they're raiding your house, I don't think you'd have much to worry about in the way of legal defense. Frankly, from the couple of cops I know (one of them a SWAT member) they'd shoot in self defense then "disarm" you later. Seeing as that they're trained to shoot for the center of mass and to shoot to eliminate the danger, I'd say that you won't really need to even talk to an attorney after it's all done. The only thing you'd really need to think about is saying hello to your ancestors. Of course, I could be wrong.
Sam
Fair enough, thanks for the info! "Better to be carried by 6 than judged by 12." I'll still plan to shoot to kill, I was just curious if there was any protection offered or if anyone with a badge can bust through the door and get immunity by screaming "police, search warrant".
Basically, you're screwed in this case.. However, if your area has had several of that type of robbery in the past, (and if you survive the experience) you could make the case in court and get manslaughter, and maybe only 5 years of ass-raping before you get paroled. If you live in a police state jurisdiction where cops are treated like noblemen (say, Jersey, NYC) then you're going away for murder. If you live a squeaky clean life and your feces is not odiferous, you might, MIGHT be able to make a case in court that you KNEW the cops were fake because you KNEW you hadn't committed a crime and don't live with anyone who might, and therefore had a reason to believe the incoming cops were fake. There IS court precedent for police failing to ID themselves, and getting attacked or whatnot. These cops are never punished, but sometimes the other party gets off.
Your best bet is to reinforce your domicile until its damn near impossible to kick, ram, or otherwise knock in the door. As soon as you hear the word "police" yelled outside, you'd better be on 911 asking them to confirm the unit outside. If they don't, or can't, don't open that door! Even if the cops outside are legit, let them stew in their own juices until you can confirm, or a search warrant and an ID comes through your mail slot (note to self...mail slot should not be able to accomodate a flashbang...). However, if they drive an APC through your wall, chances are its the feds!
If you're really concerned about this, get a copy of a search warrant and a badge from your local jurisdiction and hang it up by your door. Front door camera monitoring ,and completely reinforced windows/doors don't hurt either.

I'll take it if he doesn't, at your posted price.

Hmmmm. . .I use Bulgy Polyamides, EG steel & bakelite, Russian& Polish Polyamides and Romanian steel 5.45 mags in my Saiga .223 with no problems.
What I was trying to get at with my question was whether or not an M16 mag would fit into the Arsenal magaine well/trunion area without modifications to either.
Termite...are those Galil mags?

Atsa spicy meataballe!

In addition, moving the front sight to another location on the barrel of an AK usually requires keying (drilling to create grooves in) the barrel to accept the two pins that hold the AK front sight on. This is something that requires some skill with a drill press to do, and I really haven't found a "dirty" way to do it.
ACE makes a front sight that clamps onto the gas block, but that will decrease your sight radius considerably.

Do a search for magazines in this forum and you'll find the entire history of the G3 magazine in the Saiga.
Bottom line is, it can be done, but...lets just say it represents about 6000 times the effort it would have taken to search the forum.

I'm still working on a mag guide (not a well). I think its a lot less of a PIA than the "real deal" straight in well. However, its not as effective. The Stimpcatch was a good start, but the mag really needs proper guidance in two axes like the first generation SWATs. We'll see if anything comes of it.

That thing is NUTS!

Bipods, historically, have not been a problem with AOW rulings. They're common on T/C Contenders and Savage Strikers and the like.
However, if an ATF agent sees you using the bipod like a VFG while you cut loose with the AK, he might feel inclined to ask about it.

I bought mine in 2004. It did not come with.
Where did the mags go?
in Saiga-12
