  1. I am finishing up a conversion and had a bit of an issue with the pg nut. I made the hole the same as I had on a 74 I have. The nut that went with that rifle fit fine. When I received a new nut in the mail, it was like the second diagram you show and although it did fit in the hole straight, it did not fit at the angle it was supposed to rest at. You might have to file the nut down a little to fit. I ran mine through a belt sander. Looks cleaner than it did when I got it!

  2. I don't like that it's limited to shooting lighter loads.

I'm not sure by the way you say it if it's the drag or the PSL that you don't like in regards to lighter loads, but I know the PSL does not hold up well over time with heavy ball.

  3. I've seen on some other forums people using silver solder for joining FSB's to gas tubes. Is the shock factor of the 12GA a consideration against using silver solder for something like HK type sights? I don't have welding equipment, but I have a maap torch.

  4. lammy, it sucks that your items were back ordered but ACE isn't a bad company to deal with in my experience. By the time you reorder from someone else your just saving yourself a week in reality. Bottom line is get the stock that you really want, in terms of quality, ACE is pretty decent, but the price isn't cheap. Also thank god every day you never had to deal with shipping from Russia for parts, until you've lived through that, you'll never know how trivial a two week wait is.

Lighten up and enjoy the build, it's a lot easier these days than it was a few years ago

I'm not bashing them. I'm just saying one of those parts are backordered so it would be wise for the next two weeks to get the "big three" from another vendor until they are in stock. I'm not new to building, and I have had stuff sent in from all over.

  5. I ordered an Ace stock, hinge, and receiver block directly off the Ace site for a Saiga conversion. I received two emails, the second one said "processing" and that I "will not receive another email" Email also stated I would receive the items in no more than 5 business days. Well, I call them to tell them my order has not arrived. (And I know I had not been billed) and they said one of the parts are on backorder for two weeks.

    **Thanks for telling me this.**

I cancelled my order. I was a little on the fence with getting a side folder, and I guess this pushed me into getting a standard polymer US made fixed stock instead as that was the other idea. Cheaper anyway.

So for those looking for the ACE stock parts, you might want to order from a different vendor for a couple weeks. Which part it was I am not sure. I guess I was too pissed to listen.

  6. I own both, and prefer the Tantal.

Why? Because I can fold the Tantal open and closed every time with ease in LESS than 1 second, without taking my hand off the pistol grip or forearm and the action is the same to open and close it. I built mine from a used kit and it locks up with absolutely no movement.

The Russian/Bulgarian triangle folder requires removing a hand from the ready position to close, and again at a different hinge point to open.

Also, an important consideration is if you want to use optics... The Bulgy folds left, the Tantal folds right, so the Tantal has the added benefit of using sights mounted on a side rail (if you install a rail)

  7. Just for info.

If you are a LEO this ammo can be purchased at gtdist.com for $1.99 per 5rd box.

I know this post is a year old, and checking the site, it's now $2.99 per box. Is this still the best deal around or is there somewhere else? I can order from gtdist.

  8. I have seen "50% full auto sear" or "80% suppressor baffels" and so on for sale. If you are on this web site I am sure you have to.

Ok so how is this precentage determined and at what point does it become illegal?

I know there are no set standards for any of this just though we might learn a few things by talking about it.

When do these thing cross the line from materal or hard ware store/engine catalog part to a title 2 or 3 fire arm part?

80% is the max before it becomes a completed part. There has to be a line somewhere. An 80% ak receiver is one that is bent, but has no holes, and no rails welded on. Usually they are made so that they can be finished by people with less tooling. The 80% is more of a benefit on the creators end because it keeps them from having to do any licensing. (No mfg & ffl transfer fees) I went the 80% route once on an ak receiver and probably wont do it again. Much less of a headache, and it's easier to resell.

  9. i was looking to get a posp scope b/c they look cool, but am i correct in saying that they are not designed to be centered over the bore, so that you have to offset your aiming point at any distance which the rifle is not sighted in at to account for this? If this is true, are most side mounts designed to not be centered or can someone drop a link to a reccommended side mount that is centered.

Any scope reccommendations, i like the look of the posp's but would really like something centered if in fact they are not. Any $.02 is greatly appreciated.

How it looks through the scope is more important than how it looks on the rifle.

Some posp's are offset to the left, but most are centered over.

Your scope choice should depend on the rifle you are mounting it too.

Do you have any red dot sights? The kobra's run in the same price rangle as the scopes, and may provide a little more function, and still "look cool"

  10. Got my new AKS74 kit today. I can wait to build it, waiting on the NDS reciever. In the mean time I'll be demilling it and preping the parts. I havent built a 74 yet so this should be a fun time. The kit is in great shape and the best thing is the ammo, Its priced like it was 5 years ago 1k rounds for around 100 bucks if you shop around. Got the kit with 5 mags for $250.00.

That's a great deal. Was it a private sale, or from a shop? If it's a shop, wanna send me a link? That's one I don't yet have.

  11. where do i get one of those cool Russian triangle side folders?

You don't. :( Russian Ak parts are very very hard to get in the US.

However, you can buy a Bulgarian AKS-74 kit and steal the rear end out of it (build you a nice fixed stock 5.45 rifle out of the front end)

    or

You can pay big bucks to k-var and get a rear section + front latch from there.

I have the triangle stock on my aks-74u. That's what the thing was designed for, not a shotgun! You need some form of shock absorbtion on a 12ga. Ace or Lage is the way to go. I have the Ace comming in the mail, but the mounting is the same so if you get the receiver block, and the folder, you can swap between an Ace and Lage.

Straight up ak-74 synthetic stocks look good too, but again it comes down to comfort.

  12. Im lookin to get a scope for my rifle and i came across this kalinka optics sight. They some nice stuff and i was interested in buying from them, so as most of us probably do i started looking for reveiews etc of them, and although they had some good reviews i came across some horror stories about the place. Failed to ship items, difficult returns, poor contact in a couple of cases. So i looked at there contacts page to see where they were located, 254 Junco Cir Longs, SC 29568-6965, US, from there web site. Looked it up on mapquest and took a look at the aireal photo to find that that address is smack in the middle of a housing district. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formt...SC&zipcode=

Either they gave a false address on their web site, or kalinka optics is run out of some dudes house. Very sketchy if you ask me.

Sometimes the mapquest point in not 100% accurate. I found Freedom optics to have what I was looking for and they will beat any advertised price including buy it now type auctions.

  13. I was looking at a few different vendors for a scope and as soon as I saw this on the Freedom optics website...

    "Lowest Price Guarantee

If you have seen a lower verifiable advertised price (including "Buy It Now" auction prices) from another online store for the same item in the same condition in stock in the United States, bring it to our attention, and we'll gladly beat their price."

The choice was pretty clear, and they were cheaper than the others...

  14. I'm building an AK from a Hungarian AMD63 parts kit and would like to rivet it together if possible. I am not equiped shop wise to make a rivet squeezer from a bolt cutter as some people have suggested. What size of factory made rivet squeezer should I get.

I'm sorry you have to deal with all this bs for a simple question. I've built a few AK's and the bolt cutter rivet former is the easier (cheap) way to go for the front trunnion, but they don't work with long rivets like many ak's have in the rear trunnion. If your not equiped to make a rivet tool from bolt cutters, you won't have the tooling for the rest of the rivets. I suggest doing the build with screws. Many people go this route if they don't have the shop or space to do it. A benefit is down the road if you do get more equipment, you could go back and rivet if that's your thing.

Also, if building with rivets, you will need to press out the barrel which the proper way calls for a jig and press, although people have been known to use a hammer :0( I've seen people use the screw method and not remove the barrel.

The most expensive tool is your rivet jig. A 12 ton press can be had in the $50-75 area, and a good jig will be around $200 but will do all your rivets, and have a resale value.

Guns network will teach you everything you need to know about building, and I suggest some of you other posters read it too.
