  1. <rant> I would just like to say Jersey sucks. Here we are splitting hairs to keep our rifles legal, and an LEO will arrest, confiscate and generally turn your life upside down because it 'looks' illegal. Then why are they sold in NJ? I passed the BS checks, they phoned in the model and caliber - why is it sold if it is illegal? The answer is it is not illegal, but as someone mentioned earlier, it will all get sorted out, at your expense, from behind bars. What a state. I can't wait to leave. </rant> To the OP, regarding the buttstock, I know you like the Monte Carlo style
  2. Thanks for linking that video 22_Shooter. I've had some apprehension doing a conversion as well, but seeing that video really makes it click. That's really the conversion I want to do for now. PG, FCG, Buttstock. A simple conversion like that is compliant, yes? I'm not going to do the bullet-guide, gas tube, hand-guard mods for now, sticking with the factory mags for now as well - maybe next phase. Thanks again!
  3. So I went to my local purveyor of Russian guns and ordered a 7.62 carbine finally. They didn't have any in stock (big surprise, right?) but I should have it in a few weeks. I can deal w/ that. Anyway, I'm in the PRNJ, and for the moment I'm going to keep it in the carbine mutation that it comes in. I was wondering a few things. -For the life of me, I could not find the link here to the vendor/person who was selling the 'pre-owned' factory 10rd mags. I know there was a post recently, but I'm at a loss. For the moment, I just want to pick up a few more factory mags. Anybody have this
  4. The guy I was talking to had one of each flavor in the shelf, and "maybe" he said, another 7.62 in the back, but no more were available at this time. I was just a little surprised that the 223 was marked with a December tag, so its been sitting awhile. I would have thought a little deal to move a rifle would be nice - I was ready to buy right there. For me, right now, its a "want" thing, not a "need" thing, so that's why I asked here first. If this is the pricing trend, then it may be the best deal I can get and I'll move forward - however, a discount is a discount! Anyway, if you are
  5. Thanks guys! If I gotta, I will. Like someone mentioned, saving $30 - $40 is a big hassle. Maybe the good prices are history! taurussvt - Thanks for the offer! That's actually where I went. They had a .223 16" for $299, but the 7.62 was way higher, and I wanted to run it by the folks here first. Are you tight with those guys? The guy I was dealing with was making like $5 off was unconceivable! I buy maybe once per year, but I'm loyal to them. Yet, he let me walk. If I could get that for $300, I'd be a happy camper! I'd buy you lunch too! (after, of course, I drive directly
  6. So, I decided to take my NJ tax refund and convert it into a Saiga 7.62X39. Anyway, I get to my favorite gun shop, and they have a 20-inch 7.62, but the price was $339. On top of that, there would be the 7% sales tax and $15 NICS charge for the phone call. So, I'm thinking this rifle is going to cost me about $378 out-the-door. No luck on a price reduction. I asked and they wouldn't budge. So, Saiga-lovers, what say you? Is it still worth buying at that price, or should I wait until more become available elsewhere and do an FFL transfer? I probably won't be shooting it until
  7. Gunny - That's cool. It's looked @ as a novelty by your fellow shooters! Up this way, it really depends on the crowd. I've seen AR guys get hassled by the Elmur Fudd types about the perceived legality of a particular rifle they were using. I just want something fun that won't draw undue attention, and I think the Siaga is a good bet. I think I'll get the regular stock, some spare mags and take it from there. Thanks!!!
  8. Makin' it "much more bad ass" will certainly be a future goal for me! Very true about the AR & pistol grip - people are very odd like the AK is somehow more "evil" than the AR. I'm just trying to think ahead to when they make it a problem for rifles with more than one "evil" feature. Maybe I worry too much and should try having more fun! Anyway.... Taurussvt, if you don't mind me asking, do you know of a place for a better price than $300-ish around here? Generally, I support Meltzer's, but I'll shop it a bit if the price difference is significant. GunnyR, I think most
  9. Yeah, the standard config & sporting stock is perfect for a place like Jersey. All those "evil" features seemed to have been taken care of w/ the Saiga - but, I'll have the option of modifying it in the future when I escape from here. Anyway, I'll likely go for the "standard" rather than the skeletonized stock, but I appreciate the feedback. A local shop has the 16" for right around $300.
  10. Hey everyone! Great, great forum here! First post! I'm looking to pick up a 7.62X39, and I'm debating on the regular stock, or the skeletonized stock. My confusion is two-fold.... First issue is I'm a lefty, and I was thinking that the skeletonized stock might make it slightly easier to manipulate the rifle than the regular stock. Any thoughts on that??? I prefer the look of the regular stock, but if the skeletonized stock makes life a little easier, (I'm thinking reloads) I would consider it. The other concern is I'm in NJ...(yes, I know ) I pretty much want to keep th
