  1. The second gun in the photo from 6x6pinz looks like the same thing

The only difference is that it is a Charter Arms AR7 not a henry. There is a henry in the photo and that would be the lever action. I have had one of my AR7's since the early 80's and it has performed excellent for me. I have taken it on some really long canoe trips and many backpack trips. I have used it to provide many rabbits for meals on these trips even though they were not real survival conditions it was nice to have it with me to take advantage of the opportunities.

As with all autoloading firearms I still think that 90% of the time feeding issues are related to the magazines. We have found a bunch of the henry mags have the magazine catch hole cut too high which does not allow the magazine to fully seat high enough into the receiver. A little weld and grind on the magazine and they become as reliable as any other semi auto 22.

  2. there are four bersa 380's in the group I shoot with, all function flawlessly. I like mine but since time is on your side I would recommend waiting just a little longer and picking up a Walther ppk/s interarms, assuming it is as comfortable to you. Currently my two favorite cc's are the ppk/s or the P64 (a bit harsh for some but I like it).

Even Glock has made some lemons in thier time, difficult to get a glock fan to admit it but I have seen several that required work to function properly.

  3. I am begining to think that the warmer/dryer climate here is a big advantage to the shooting sports. Neither I or my friends seem to have the problems with cetain types of firearms that others just don't seem to be able to get to work.

I am not as big a fan of the 12 gauge so more than likely would pass on an AR variant in 12gauge. The curiosity of the Safir T14 just seem to strike my fancy. I have been pleasantly surprised with its performance and hopefully will be able to come up with a choke for it. Oh yeah and some mags that hold a few more rounds would be nice.

  4. well I turned over 1500 rounds on my Safir T14 today. While at the range, turning lots of heads, I managed to shoot 48 out of 50 birds using remington 8shot nitro clay rounds. I was at the rifle range with slugs first, still need work on sighting the slugs in. I was using winchester 1/5 ounce slugs and with limited experience shooting AR style rifles was able to get decent groupings at 50yds but nothing special. The gun itself worked perfectly but the front sight which is held in place by an allen screw came loose enough to allow the plastic pieces to snap apart a bit. An easy fix with the allen wrench provided. I don't know if I did not get it tight enough after cleaning or if this is something that is going to be an issue. I am still very impressed with the ease at which I can acquire a target with it although it does take longer than conventional shotgun sights.

Hi glad that you liked your T 14.

As I wrote in my presentation one and a half year ago, T 14 does not really make any sense in terms of ballistics or finance. It's just for people who live in Turkey or some other banana country where fundamental freedoms are not enjoyed. I noticed your magazine, probably a five rounder I guess, now Safir offers a 15 rounder made out of plastic with reinforcing ribs along the sides. How much did you buy your T 14 ? In Europe they go for 1100-1200E, an AR 15 clone in .223 goes for around 1800-2000 E ridiculous prices!

By the time I paid shipping and transfer fees the total cost was $1K, about average for a specialty AR in my area of the world. I have been waiting patiently for the 15 or even 10 round magazines to show up here. I keep contacting ATI about availability and they are still waiting for them to arrive. The expected date is now mid May. I am now well over the 2000 round mark with my T14 and still no real signs of problems. The only noticeable issue was the front sight. I put a small detent for the sight screw to lock into so that resighting is not necessary after each cleaning. Several of my friends that have shot skeet with my Safir are now in the market for one. I am still waiting to see the game wardens face when bird season comes around, should be worth every penny I paid for the shotgun.

One of the toughest things about the T14 so far is keeping it away from my wife. She likes the lightweight frame and ease to shoot, even more than my Saiga 410. I am talking to a machinist friend of mine about spinning up a choke for it that looks similar to the flash suppressor, would be nice to have at least a modified choke if not full choke. If polychoke ever gets their 410 choke system to work properly maybe a poly for the Saiga and the Safir would be in order.

  5. I disagree whole heartedly with the OP. This shotgun was made to kill. It will kill what ever it is pointed at in almost any condition. That is what makes is such a great hunting weapon. I don't just hunt birds on sunny spring days. Some of my best hunting has come in climates that, dare I say most of you won't even leave the house. The Saiga line of shotguns have always brought home the meat while I have watched the benelli's either freeze up or gum up. It should be noted that before switching to the Saiga I used an old remington 870 police riot 18" barrel to accomplish my hunting task. A well made gun just needs to be shot. It does not matter if I am using light bird shot to enhance my winged animal skills or slugs for larger targets the Saiga line of shotguns just keep working.

  6. I have all three and the S20 is the only one I have converted. I don't use the S20 for hunting and wanted to convert one to a folding stock w/ pistol grip. My S20 eats everything I put in it and yes a drum or larger cap magazines would be nice.

  7. when we go into the desert to shoot I use a 40 X 60 tarp to collect all of our trash. Just pick up corners and all goes to center for easy collection. As I reload all gauges the hulls are top priority. The hard cases I trade to others for reloaded rounds.

  8. Cameron, I salute your effort and hope it works out very well. The problem I deal with is that most of the gun owners I know don't even bother to vote in any election let alone support a cause. I have come to recognize some of the buzz words/phrases the non voters use. They are the ones who you will find usually talking about the "SHTF" scenarios instead of going offensive they have already started preparing a defensive posture. This apethety will certainly mean the loss of our rights. I get frustrated as I watch areas of our state get closed down to outdoor activities because people won't get up and be heard where it counts, at the polls. We are loosing vast areas of our state for offroad uses including but not limited to shooting sports. Far too many people sit at home and complain on the boards about their rights being taken away and yet they don't do anything about it. In many cases even a simple email, most of the time a sample letter is available, can help. I know some will read this and take offense but then again they would be the ones letting our rights be taken away. This past election should have shown that either we, as gun owners, are in the minority or a whole lot of gun owners did not vote. I don't know about anyone else but there are few people who I know that don't own guns or at least feel they should have the right to. It really takes so little effort to keep our rights and to see so many choose not to do anything except complain about the loss just gets me very upset.

Long post and for some of you I know I am preaching to the choir but it really ticks me off.

  9. I get more free reloading items from those trying to reload 410 than I buy. Seems some folks just don't have the patience to relaod 410. It is no harder than any other gauge, just takes a little patience getting the smaller components in place. I can do 8 boxes an hour on my progressive mec reloader which is no where near as fast as my 12 and 20 but the financial rewards on the 410 are much greater.

Funny how those who say the 410 is useless don't let you prove it on the range in competition:)

  10. I have two of the AR7 rifles and one of the Explorer 2 pistols. They work flawlessly and have for many years. I have had to replace the bolt and barrel in one of them as it wore out at approx. 60k rounds. I used the ramline 25 round magazines to the point that the follower won't stay in the mag housing anymore, they still function though. Both rifles and pistol are charter arms from the very early 80's. A friend of mine has a charter arms from the later 80's and it needs the magazine bottom shimmed forward to work perfectly.

Here one of my AR7's can be seen after a good day squirrel hunting with it.

  11. I picked mine up at JGSales. You are correct they are a fun gun to shoot. Took a little getting used to the scope but not all is good. Since I already had a few other 54R rifles this one just seem to fit right in. They warned me of the thinner barrel and heat up issues. Nothing big just wanted me to take my time and not get it as hot as a standard AK.

  12. The ferrets are actually pretty fun to drive. I don't know how they can put top speed over 35mph though. The RR engine in most of the state side units has been changed out to a studebaker motor (bad swap really). Most of the ones I have seen for sale go for more like 10K with most of the accessories included. Without a doubt one of the easiest armoured vehicles to drive. Had to laugh about the small leak, anything british military is going to leak. Parts availability, mechanical wise, is very good. It is the accessories that are becoming hard to find. As far as getting S12 members to ride along that would be tough. The inside of the unit is barely large enough for the driver

  13. :lolol: I bet! I'd pay money to see the fatcat club shooters fill their pants when you uncase that thing. Anyone ever fail to realize what it was and tell you that you can't use a rifle?

I did get into a discussion with another shopper at the gun shop where I picked it up. He was telling his friend that it was an AR in 223. I could not help myself and corrected him. He told me they don't make it in that large of a bore. His friend laughed at him when I showed him the box and explained it was a shotgun. That alone was worth some of the cost of the firearm.

At the range where I shoot one of the rangemasters is a real jerk. As luck would have it he was there yesterday when I went in to shoot. After shooting I asked him for some time to collect my spent rounds. He stopped me as I was picking up the spent shotgun cartridges and informed me I was only able to pick up my own. I made him feel like an idiot when I showed him the Safir is a 410 shotgun and not a 223. Again worth some of the cost.

  14. The Saigas inability to fire 3 1/2 has kept it home on a few duck/goose hunts. I still take a russian gun afield though. I use the SPR453 which also has an adjustable gas system (4 way). Would be nice if the Saiga could handle 3 1/2 but alas it is not to be.

If you like 00 buck look into T shot. :)

  15. Went to the range again today. I was thinking about the pellet pattern the Safir puts out. I should have taken my S410 for comparison but did not think of it till I was already there.

  16. Since I am a 410 freak the other gauges in this platform would not excite me. I see where some would want them but if they were released in 20,16 or 12 I would not have picked one up. After this weekend I am over 1500rnds through my T14. I managed 48 out of 50 clays the other day with it. Takes some getting used to rifle sights when shooting clays(just takes longer to acquire targets, for me) I have had no failures other than with winchester 8 shot. Winchester and remington slugs work great. I have been using remington nitro clay in 8 shot as a staple round for it. I have found that it is the cheapest off the shelf round I could find. I will be making a reload for this shotgun, just wanted to use factory stuff for a while in case of failure it is easier to get a shotgun serviced if reloads have not been used.

As with any AR specialty platform this one is also priced up a bit. At $1K to the door it is a bit pricey for a 410 shotgun but for a specialty AR it is right in the ballpark. I believe that the demand for the AR had more to do with the pricing than the actual production cost.

I can tell you that if you think showing up to the range and shooting clays with the saiga turns heads you have not seen anything until you show up with one of these. :D

  17. A buddy of mine just picked up his 3rd saiga, a 308 today. After a good cleaning we took it out and had cases being dented up similar to what you are showing in the pics above. My question is after the filing did it fix the problems? His is denting them so bad they will not chamber. The gunsmith at the store where he bought it told him "that is what you get for buying that russian POS", I could hardly contain myself. His attitude is simply if it is not a glock it is not a gun, what an idiot.

If you could provide a good picture and description of what is needed I would appreciate it. My buddy is new to the saiga world and I don't want him to be turned off of them.

    Thanks
