  1. I mentioned this in another thread already,

if youre hunting in AZ, unless its migratory birds, you can use a 5 round mag on your shotgun. They changed the regs a couple years ago.

I just put my S12 AK together and shot a bobcat with it this last weekend at 10 yards. I bought it with the Plan to use it extensively on predators. 3" #4 Buck really pounds them down. I take a bunch of coyote with a shotgun each year, lots of fun with a shotgun. I have been using a HK-Benelli M1 Tactical but as soon as my Saiga polychoke shows up, the M1 is going in the safe.

If you want to get out and knock down some coyotes with the S12's let me know. I use mine for that and other hunting as well. I did fairly well with it on ducks this year.

  2. When it comes to these types of topics we have found that a call and an email are equal but a written letter (not chain) is worth much more. I have seen people say that an email and phone call are worth one point, a written letter is worth 10 points and a physical visit (by appointment) is worth 100 points. Of course placing this on a point system just to show the difference in the way correspondence is received. Any is good though. You really make an impact if you are a voting member of society and remind them that you do vote and an action like this might sway your decission.

    All nicely of course.

  3. I have shot some of the exotic stuff. The chain mail is great against stuffed animals. The dragons breath is kinda cool but don't know what good it is other than neat to see at night just watch for combustables, it goes farther than you think. The exploding rounds only work against hard surface and then only makes a loud pop, a straight slug would do the same thing without the noise. I like the bird bombs or starburst for the effect and some of the whistling mortars are loud as all get out. I guess it just depends on what you are after. None of them seem to work any better than just plain shotgun rounds but it is neat to shoot the odd stuff once just to see the effects.

  4. I used my S12 for duck this year. Did very well. My O/U was taking way too much abuse in the wet conditions of waterfowl hunting. I am now getting out after predatory animals (coyotes, fox and the like) Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will take one with the S12. The mags are a bit of a pain to deal with if they have to be plugged down to two rounds but once you get used to it not bad. I would like to get the smaller case two rounders just to make it easier to carry. The five round cases become a little difficult to carry along with the other items needed.

I have been using my s410 for sometime for birds and other small game and it works great. Recently picked up a s20 so will see how that goes.

  5. I did not destroy my mags but they all fed really well in my s12. I am pleased that I managed to get them at a very reasonable price and a carry bag as well (thrown in by Keepshooting) when I bought 5.

The only draw back I can see is they are not the two rounders I need for hunting here in AZ.

  6. Well finally received my new Saigas today. I just picked up two S12's in 24" barrel and one S20 in 21". One of the other members on the board reffered me to the guy and while he was not able to get me 3 of the 12's at least I have a couple that I can mod as needed and still keep my hunting 12 stock. Way too much fun

Still waiting for the drums to come in. Would be nice in 20 and more importantly 410.

  7. Don't know about the Saiga but my sks has taken a javelina and one day I hope to take a deer with my AK47, both in 7.2x39. As was mentioned earlier would try to keep under 100yds. I don't do scopes so that is about as far as can be reasonably shot anyway.

Keep us posted if you do get a chance

  8. I bought my 870 18" police riot gun back in the 80's. I have put many thousands of rounds through it and still enjoy taking it out once in a while. It is kind of like owning an old restored car fun to drive once in a while but not a daily user anymore. The Saigas have taken its place. I have the extended tube mag for the 870 so it will hold 9rds and sling but no other mods. for it, never felt the need. My 500 mossberg is stock with a 28" barrel but doesn't see the light of day anymore along with my winchester pump, just no need as long as the saigas hold up. I only have a couple semi auto shotguns that are not saigas but they rarely see any use, just enough to stay practiced with them. Occasionally you need to take the other shotguns out to appreciate the Saigas. Once in a while I find the 2rd mags a pain so I take out one of the other tube mag guns to remind me that the mags are not that bad. There is desire to take out the plugged tube mag guns for just having fun. The detachable 10rd mags and soon to be 20rd drums just make the tubes a waste of time.

That is about all there is to talk about the other shotguns so why waste time with a seperate forum section.

  9. I can only bumpfire from the hip, its only usefull at close range and if you have a laser so you know what you'll hit.

It's illegal to bumpfire any guns now, I'll try to get a copy of the ruleing.

Oh yeah he lives in WI. They don't even allow you to drive you military vehicles on the road in that state. There is a place that is worse than the republic of California and it is called Wisconsin. Glad I live in the desert where nobody cares what you do as long as you leave them alone.

I have yet to try to bumpfire my s12 but the ak is a blast with the 75rd drum mag in it.

  10. The whole argument is based on what type of "arms" are we allowed to bear? Her type of people don't see a need for "assault" weapons. Of course they did not exist when the 2nd was written so there is no way of knowing if they would have considered them. If you look at the intent of the 2nd, it was to protect ones self and family from harm. Now forward to today and what better type of "arm" is there than an assault weapon to do just that. I have a few hunting buddies who don't see a need for the assault rifle with so many other types of rifles and handguns out there. I keep explaining it is not the gun but the idiot behind the gun. No matter how many laws are written a lawbreaker is not going to follow them. I think we are up to something like 23 thousand laws concerning guns and ownership thereof. What difference is another one going to make to a crazy individual bent on killing people. Just my opinion but then who am I? just a taxpaying American citizen, nobody an elected official cares about.

I for one use all of my weapons for hunting. I have been given a hard time by game and fish for carrying my saiga 410 plugged mags to 2 rds (with slugs) for javelina during a general rifle hunt. The officer did not think it appropriate. After explaining the 410 slug was more effecient at 50yds than a 22 mag he let me go. I have in the past taken javelina with my sks in 7.62x39. I am still waiting for the opportunity to take a javelina or deer with my ak47 7.62x39. I do have and use a wasr 22 for small game, gets lots of looks. Of course this year I started hunting ducks and coyotes(four legged type) with my s12 and doing very well. I am waiting on the arrival of two more s12's and an s20, should be here this week. I will then start using the s20 for dove and quail, can't wait till they arrive.

  11. Home defense, ultra close range there won't be enough spread to make a difference in the choke used. Remember 10yds is only 30feet and most people won't encounter trouble much farther out than that. Stay with the thread protector and stagger your mag load with shot and slug. IMHO. BTW 410 is my choice for HD. effective with little collateral damage.

  12. Have got to wonder if the poly chokes have been put on properly. I have patterned mine against my rem 870 and at the mod settings at 40 yds it is almost identical. I am using #3 steel shot in 3" mag load. I have made 65yd shots on ducks with the poly choke with great success, something I could not do with the 870. I do have the vented poly choke installed as described in the instructions that came with it and all seems fine. The choke fit fine with no exposed threads. The s12 that it is on is a 24" barrel purchased new this year. I have 2 more s12's coming that will be getting the polychoke as well. I guess in a week or so I will know if the choke fits them like the one I am currently using. I need to check and see if there is one available for my s20 also.

  13. And yet it is cheaper to come to Saiga-12.com and buy the mags then go pick them up direct. I recently picked up an S12 from a local place but was able to get my next two S12's and S20 cheaper through the mail (well sent to FFL dealer). Phoenix metro might be a big place with lots of shops but it is not the cheapest place to do business. Thank goodness for the internet.

Agreed! Same with Ammo, J&G is local but with sales tax its cheaper to buy out of state

and J&G has gotten so picky on their forms that I don't do business with them anymore. I have purchased many firearms through them but lately it is such a hassle I avoid it. Got to love the internet.

  14. WOW in AZ we are only allowed 10K rounds stored at a residence and 30K at a residence with a permit. The counts are of course for all ammo combined. The .22 ammo can add up fast on a guy when buying in bulk.

Looks like a lot of fun in the future for you.

I thought that was a federal hazmat law. After ten thousand rounds, I thought you needed a 50 dollar permit or something, and an ATF inspectable magazine for storage, X feet from places of residence.

easy solution : dont admit to having any more rounds at home for any other guns, and fire off 25 rounds. :)

I was flat out surprised to even find that we had a limit on the number of rounds. The only way we can store more than 10K is with a permit, usually issued to businesses. I am not aware of any inspection required but it would make sense. The hazmat is probably just another way of controlling things though I know nothing of it.
