Years ago, before the age of pointy muzzle brakes (back when guns were wood and fired stone balls) I taught LEOs things like room clearing and door breaching.
We had seen various stand-off devices, some like a short spike bayonet, some that resembled a coffee can and were designed to catch flying debris. Most were seen as gimmicks, none really saw general adoption.
