nalioth 405
To gain "importation points", I believe the BHO is added to Saigas. It appears that "sporting guns" have "bolt hold open devices", and so (like finger grooves on pistol grips turn them into "target grips") the Saiga gains import points from this feature. No military Kalashnikov has ever had a BHO (not the new ones, the old ones or any in between). As far as "different receivers", I also suspect they have a separate assembly stage where the BHO hole is milled in the finished receiver (which is why we've seen them on dimpled and slabsided receivers). Ok, thanks nalioth. I thought all the holes on the stamped receivers were cut with a dye in the stamping process. Suggesting a different stamp for the sporters. But if that was the case, why the extra trigger and PG hole on the sporters? Or do the military variants have a hole were the BHO would have been?

They probably slap the receiver in the "sporting jig" and add the four rear Klinton holes and BHO slot at the same time. Edited September 18, 2009 by nalioth

I have a client who is willing to lend me their welder (both machine and person) so I needed to make a decision on filling in the BHO slot along with the other left over holes. Thanks again Nalioth
