Bullet Guide Install (DZ) and Mag Answers

Recommended Posts

Ok. I ordered a 5.45 FLAT bullet-guide kit from Dinzag. I also ordered a spare 8/32 tap from him also (in case)

First I noticed this thing is THICK as compared to my 7.62x39 guide I put in a few months back.

Its at least 1/8" thick.

Here is a pic of the factory mag (on the left) compared to a Bulgy Combloc mag.

The tape is to show you where you will need to remove that 1/8" approx (just from the front edge folks..) to work with the new guide once installed. My factory mags have a notch/mark in that area so easy to see.. 027.gif

You should put the guide in and MARK the center. Some people superglue the guide in an then drill a PILOT hole to assure alignment. They then POP the BG out, and then drill/tap the hole..

So YES you need to take about 1/8" off your FACTORY mags (front area) to use with the bullet-guide.

So with this I bought 4 AK74 Bulgy Mags. 2 From CSS 027.gif and 2 from another non-bus member.

I prefer to use DZ kits as they include everything and are avail for ROUND and FLAT trunnion types.

Hope this helps some new people when they want to do this and see that it ain't that bad..

I placed the BG in and then drilled the hole (taking care to center the bit up too)

Then TAP the hole slowly (use a tap handle or the Sears 'screwdriver-type' tap handle.

Here is a pic of the tapped hole. this took about 7 minutes (just go slow and back out evey 1/4 turn.)

This is a pic with the BHO open so you can see how the BG is guiding the bullets up and correctly.

You have to file about 1/8" off between the RAILS on the FACTORY mag to get these to fit after you put the BG in.

Again go slow.. I used a 1/4" squared metal file to do mine (no dremel today).

Left is Factory, Center is Mod-ded Factory, Right is Bulgy std mag.

The good news I did NOT break any taps on this and I actually have a spare NEW tap and bit (for the next maybe)
