FatalSylence 8
I want to get an AK gas tube with a retainer so I can mount a standard AK hand guard. I realize I also need a lower hand guard retainer. My other question is what do you recommend as a good gas tube for the Saiga 7.62? Vented or not vented? Also, I would like it to be reasonably priced. Thanks, guys. Edit: for the first question, I found this: http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17639&cat=296&page=1 Would that work okay? I like k-var stuff. Edited March 17, 2011 by FatalSylence
stnls1911 55
I've read from a few forum members that said they like that specific handguard retainer. I recommend a non-vented tube here http://dinzagarms.co...2x39/akgt1.html ETA: You may have to notch your barrel for the screw to go in the other side. A notch should also prevent the retainer from sliding forward. Edited March 16, 2011 by stnls1911

You can use that retainer, however, you will have to remove your FSB and GB to install it.

baraban7.62 20
you can use any standard ak gas tube, but you will most likely have to modify it a little bit, a simple dremel takes care of it withing 5 sec, i like vented gas tubes, they look nice, but only the original ak-47s and early AKMs had those, so depends on what ur trying to make ur saiga look like, and if ur trying to put that lower hand guard retainer on, i believe you dont have to take ur FSB or gas block off, it is a bolt-on, correct? plus it does not really make a difference whether it is vented or not (unless you use optics, vented is better for optics, less gas hits it)
stnls1911 55
The K-Var is a press on-handguard retainer. The FSB and GB must be removed before installation. The bolt-on retainer from the first link should work. FatalSylence, I don't think you can link to Brownells since they are not a business member, just passing along the information. FatalSylence 8
Thanks for the info so far, guys. How would this work for a handguard: http://dpharms.com/product_info.php?cPath=61_27&products_id=330 I like Tapco's stuff. I have used quite a bit. The only thing I didn't like is they tended to get really warm while shooting, but maybe this one is different. How does it mount if it doesn't use the factory Saiga handguard screw? stnls1911 55
When you use a lower handguard retainer, you will put the lower handguard in just like the factory handguard. You do not need to use the factory screw, the lower handguard retainer will prevent the handguard from moving forward. I'm pretty sure Chevyman melted his Tapco handguard during a stress test. Unless you're bump firing like crazy, you shouldn't have any problems with the Tapco handguards. The K-Var handguards do have a heat shield in them though.

You are correct, to the OP. On that note, CSS (I believe) recently came out with a LOWER HANDGUARD RETAINER in which you do NOT have to notch the barrel or remove the GB.
