Most likely they just snapped in an AK mag for appearance purposes. This can be done by slightly altering (shaving) either the mag catch tab or rifle mag catch/release lever. To function with an AK mag the Saiga would require a bullet guide as well as the referenced alterations. I have done this mod on one of my Saiga rifles so that standard AK mags snap in and feed flawlessly. PS. Standard 30 round Saiga mags are synthethetic and hard to come by although Russian Military out of the UK likely can get them for you at a premium dollar.
