My solution after testing out a bunch of options was to mount a micro red-dot with a 25mm tube--one narrow enough that it acts as its own kind of iron for buckshot. That means the dot for slugs and medium range buck, and the tube itself for quick, tight work. This has worked extremely well for me in a wide range of situations.
