rsd86 0
I've got a canted fsb on a dimpled saiga 7.62. I drilled out where the dimples were to try and tweak the base straight, but this thing doesn't wanna move. I've got the thing soaking in penetrating oil and I plan to put it in a vice and put a 24" on it. Will this work or will I just trash the base? I'm a tightwad and I'd like to keep from buying a new one. I figure if I can move it I'll tack it back solid, cause I've got no desire to thread the barrel. Anybody thats done this before and might offer some pointers would be greatly appreciated.

DrThunder88 912
I'm also in the "smack it with a mallet" camp
rsd86 0
Thanks for idea guys. I totally overlooked that. I'll try it before I break out the pipewrench.
rsd86 0
I messed with my rifle for about an hour the other day trying to move that fsb, and I was having no luck at all. Or so I thought. Since I was gonna have to cut the old base off and buy a new one anyways I'd try one last thing. I wraped the fsb in a rag and put it in a vice. Then put a rag on the jaws of a 24" pipewrench and got a bite on the bottom of the rear sight base. This will either move it, or break it I thought. Put a few lbs on the wrench and I could feel just a little bit of give somewhere in the gun, but with all the rags I didn't see where. Looked it all over and saw that my rear sight base had moved just a little. 15 minutes and 50 rounds later the thing is spot on. I tacked a few spots on the rear base where it shouldn't move anymore, and now its great. Guess it's a good thing that I never got my fsb to move otherwise I wouldn't have ever noticed how much play was in the rear base.

mancat 2,368
That's the second time I've heard of a Saiga RSB moving. I hope they're not all that loose.
