paprotective 362
I read online the twist rate for the VEPR 308 is like 1/12 (which is ok for about upto 165gr).. does anyone know the twist rate for the X54R models?? and what grains will get me decent groups if I got the X54 route (besides the 147gr in tins)?? Anyone got a sinker they can push through and inform us (the group).. nothing is on the WPA site..
theorangeplanet 968
Thats something I tried to figure out myself, too. The largest majority of Mosin Nagants were 1 in 9.5". PSL's come in both 1 in 12" and 1 in 10". Dragunovs were originally 1 in 12 but were later increased to 1 in 9.5" in order to stabilize heavier AP bullets (from wikipedia). I suspect the 1 in 9.5" is probably needed to stabilize heavy ball (182 grain) ammunition... and I suspect one of the reasons why it is not found in PSL's since HB is not recommended for them to shoot, anyway. The Vepr 54r's are supposed to be capable of handling HB and supposedly shoot it rather well, so I would suspect they would have the 1 in 9.5 twist rate.
