flash hider indexing question

Recommended Posts

Hey guys quick question. I cut my barrel shroud back to 5/8ths and successfully threaded my barrel. I purchased the yhm phantom flash hider. It screwed on correctly just didnt index. I am wondering if the stop on the inside of the flashhider has to come completely down on the end of the barrel. I have noticed a slight gap between the stop and the barrel. To correct this i would have to remove slightly under a quarter inch of barrel shroud and thread it farther back. Will it be ok without that? Also i need to install a crush washer to index which will bring it even farther from the stop. Any thoughts? Thanks

Thanks for yalls help. Heres an update so far. I went out and purchased a champion h10c 441 spark plug to get the crush washer. Those things are a pain to remove due to them not being designed to come off. I had to pry it off with a flat head then ream it out a bit with a dremel. I managed to get it on and tighten it down almost a full turn and its not budging. There is a gap between the crown and the flash hider stop on the inside. Is this normal? I took some pics, ill upload them once i figure out how.

Thats basically it. I cut the shroud back 5/8ths and threaded it back with the 14/1 die and then cleaned it up. I threw the crush washer on and it held the flash hider on really well. It isnt going anywhere. You just want to make sure you tighten it down to crush the washer correctly if that makes sense. Once you think its tight, try and tighten it some more. Then stop when you think it wont go anymore or line up right. You dont want to be able to screw it off with your hand.
