This is how the bike looked a couple of years ago on craigslist.

1980 KZ650 F1. 8600 MI on the clock. It started with a jump, had excellent compression and oil, newly replaced tires, good electricals, and a color I really like.

Deat battery, old oil, badly misadjusted carbs (with a botched up slide), broken clutch cable, cracked gauge, rusty bastard exhaust, cracked seat vinyl, rotten hoses.

Bought it for $130 + a pizza. $130 to the guy with the bike. Tracked down the guy with the title and he signed it over for free. I bought him a pizza.

I've since replaced a carb slide, retuned the carbs, replaced the battery (It's getting a lithium replacement very soon since that has gone bad already.), re-skinned the seat, modernized the headlight to a relay & Bosch H4 setup, Redid the oil and seals on the front forks. I also redid the fairing bracket to be straight and not vibrate. It takes about 5 minutes to swap for a bigger windsheild that I use for longer trips.

I've mostly worn out the tires and will need to replace soon. Probably going to be Bridgestone BT45 tires.

So to date I have used it as my primary transport for almost 3 years, and spent aprox $950 between bike service luggage and protective gear. It payed for itself in fuel in just a few months.

From the album:

M/C fun.
