  1. okay... got my .223 in last week (gilberts guns) and did the simple 922 conversion mentioned on this forum by several members (tapco adjustable stock with PG from saigastock.com) and surefire U.S. mags. from MS auto arms.) not quite ready to try my hand at a conversion yet (yes i'm a chicken)... i put about a hundred rounds through it (most of them "monarch" not sure if anyone has used this ammo in the past or has any thoughts on it) but it seemed to fire really well for cheap ammo. no problems...no issues with gun...worked flawlessly, the surefire mags worked flawlessly...gre
  2. get it from gilberts instead...they are 289.00 but you will get it in a more timely manner
  3. for the record this is my first ak (it's a .223 saiga) okay...like a dummy i unscrewed the front sling bracket...thinking i could screw it back on unfortunately there is apparently another piece holding it in as opposed to it being screwed into the hand guard... how do i get this hand guard off to retrieve...i see one screw down below in the receiver...what else do i need to do i didn't want to start forcing crap...and now i have a jiggling part in my hand guard cne NEVERMIND..FIGURED IT OUT...DUH!
  4. where did you get your mount?
  5. If I understand it correctly, it doesn't matter if it counts as an extra part or not if it is American made (and the high cap mag and buttstock are as well). If you now have 15 parts, but the mag counts as 3, the pistol grip as 1, and the buttstock as 1, it's still 15-3-1-1=10. Do I have this correct? Also, you can no longer use the original Saiga mags with the pistol grip now, unless you change 3 more parts, right? i'm a newb so ??? i like this idea though for the no tinkering inclined such as myself
  6. so if the PG is "part of" the buttstock then you don't add it as a 15th part? b/c if that was the case you would need to change something else as well right?
  7. That is the same place I ordered mine from, and i was very pleased with what i got. I ordered the lower version of that mount that doesn't allow the use of the irons, but like I said, it is a very good mount and it seems like it's almost as durable as my Saiga. So I would recommend this particular mount to you. P.s.- i had some difficulty getting my scope to adjust low enough to make zero, so i "chocked" the rear of the scope by adding a piece of rubber in between the ring and the scope. It worked perfectly and it also kind of acts like a recoil buffer to the scope. This problem wasn't due
  8. i have my first saiga on order (should get here this week {.223}) and i have been looking @ different side mounts my goal is to have a side mount (disconnecting) that allows me to use the irons this appears like it may fit the bill http://www.eastwave.ca/products/scopes/mountsksak.html but my main question is will my new rifle come with everything i need to mount this item or will i need something else? thanks in advance edit: actually this may not fit the bill...any ideas saiga pros - it looks a little low the 2.5 is from the bottom but it's a disconnect so
  9. They use 5.6x39 in Russia and other places they can't have military ammo. 5.6x39 isn't 5.56x45 (.223 Remington) yeah according to wiki...there is two versions of 5.56 X 45 one with much higher pressure... so i guess the question is can the saiga handle a ALL versions of 5.56 X 45?
  10. just noticed the difference in the models...39 vs. 45 Thanks! i'm just trying to take in as much as i can on here before this new rifle arrives :-P this is my first semi-automatic rifle...got several bolts and several pistols as well.
  11. hmmm....maybe i should have gotten the 7.62....oh well.... as long as 223 ammo is plentiful and decently enough priced, i will still be happy with my selection....
  12. so i have a .223 on order...i need to stick to .223 ammo and avoid the 5.6 then correct? thanks for the responses To my knowledge, 5.6x39 ammo does not exist in the USA unless you reload and make it yourself. good deal...so i assume US distributors for the most part don't even carry the other version
  13. so i have a .223 on order...i need to stick to .223 ammo and avoid the 5.6 then correct? thanks for the responses
  14. new member...first post.... why does the factory website appear to show two different versions...one rifle for 223 and one for 5.56? lost in translation? i have a new rifle on order and want to make sure I'm using the right ammo as well... i know the cart. are the same size but one is a bit more abusive correct? http://www.izhmash.ru/eng/product/saiga.shtml
