  1. Here's a little reminder for those who don't remember Vankiller and how he got that name...lol.

I guess the "RULES" regarding speaking the forbidden "for sale" words without first being a paying member are still in effect??

  2. We are also working on a civilian transferrable destructive device version that will run fully automatic.

I don't see how this would be possible.

Dude. . .I am confused also. Class III stuff is not a DD. . .until it is declared a DD, that is. . .otherwise it's simply Class III. So, WTF??? Does this guy even know of what he speaks? He claims to be in business, but. . .if so, why the bent understanding of the relevant laws. . .laws that he would have to know in order to BE in business. . .hmmmmm.

  3. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?act=an...p;f=42&id=4

Lately we have been seeing more an more people, who are NOT contributors, "bending" the rules and cleverly posting ads in different forums, including this one, where instead of actually starting a thread saying they have an item they would like to sell, they "fish" for buyers or trades by saying they have an item and would like to know it's value (or something similar). Then of course the thread evolves into "how much do you want for it?" or similar, and before you know it, a non contributor has successfully skirted the rules and sold or traded his gun or whatever and made no donation to the site what so ever.

This has to stop. We are not trying to be the fun police or Nazi party. RULES ARE RULES.

From now on when someone makes this mistake (on purpose or unwittingly, it doesn't matter) they will receive a formal warning and their thread will be immediately deleted and not be allowed reposted even if they do contribute. There has to be some responsibility taken.

Cobra. . .I am not on the forum on a daily basis, so, I am unaware that/if there are diferent levels of payola for various levels of commercialism on the forum. PM me with the "list" or whatever it is, bro.

    Thanks, dude.

  4. I have a bunch of target loads (2 3/4 dram, 3 dram) laying around. 7 lead shot. Are these ok?

As long as the shot load is 1 oz. or heavier (e.g. 1 1/8 oz.) they will be just dandy for knocking down steel poppers and plates. Lighter loads (i.e., 7/8 oz. "super speed trap loads) will not cycle the action.

  5. I'm a fairly new Saiga .223 owner, and it seems that every 30 round magazine I see for a Saiga says it was modified. Did/does Saiga ever make a thirty round clip for this rifle. Or just the 10 round clip because it was designed to be a "sporter" rifle.

First. . .Only M1-Garands have a "clip." All other high cap sporter rifles and pistols have "magazines (mags)." Also. . .if Saiga made a double-stack, high cap MAG for the gun, it would not be importable under the fabulous (worst anti-gun legislation in US history) Pappa Bush, 1989 mil-type gun TOTAL import BAN, which was not an act of a Democratic congress. . .but it flowed from the pen of G. Bush Sr. and his own excuse for a brain in the form of an Executive Order!!! (again, NOT an act of congress).

So. . .No. There ARE NO factory high-cap MAGS for the S-.223. I have MODIFIED many 5.45 x 39 mags, as well as MODIFIED Israeli Galil .223, 35 and 50 rd MAGS. There are a bunch of Bulgy Waffle .223 mags out there to buy--as well as E.German Wieger steel mags in .223 (for NATO export, but abandoned as E. Gernamy fell with the rest of the Soviet Union), which I have a bunch of as well, but you will have to mod the gun--that is, return it to its original AK-101 grandeur. Bro. . .scour the Internet, and you will find what you seek, in terms of gunsmith mods for the gun, as well as modded and unmodded MAGS that will fit your Russian sweetheart.

We all did the "rite of passage" for the grail. It's your turn. We will help you along the way, grasshopper. Good luck!

  6. My new Quad-rail forend on my new Russian AK-101 clone ( Saiga- 5.56 mm /.223). I still am waiting for my OD green low-profile, "ladder-type" rail covers, but here she is with two different digital cam settings (one obviously warmer and one colder in terms of color).

    Enjoy the gun-porn!!

  7. 6) I highly recommend a vertical grip. I use the TDI short model. Be careful of your parts count when deciding ANY add-on part. Example: The TDI is a fantastic forend, BUT. . .it IS imported. Maybe Israel and not from Russia, but it IS still imported. I suggest asking a local lawyer to be sure, but if you have a US rail forend and a TDI vertical grip on it, I don't think that that makes your entire forend "foreign" for 922 purposes. The light can be mounted on the CAA or TDI forend making any additional light mount unnecessary.

First, although the vertical grip looks good and you may find it convenient, you should consider trying not to use one (I know -- I have one on my AK!) Two reasons:

    1) The front of the mag makes a very convenient grip and provides a better balance point.

    2) If you pick an AK up off the ground, odds are it won't have a vertical grip. If you rely on one for shooting, you may be in trouble.

Second, vertical foregrips have absolutely no bearing on parts count for 922R compliance. Pistol grips do, but as an attachment the foregrip does not count as part of the forend. )The origin of the forend is a different story -- that is considered a compliance part). Unless your state has some separate restriction on the use of foregrips, it doesn't make any difference to the Alphabet Police.

    Jim

I generally agree, but SOME mags will take a crap if used as a grip (and SOME won't). Luck of the draw and your mods to the mag that get it working.

  8. Purpose of the gun is home defense... and a little bit of a toy.

    What I plan on ordering:

-Stock: Ace M4 Six-Position or probably a SOCOM setup to fold.

    -FCG: Tapco G2 Single hook

    -Pistol Grip: Tapco SAW

-PG bolt and nut: Nut , and the bolt comes with the Tapco SAW PG, right?

    -HG: Tri-rail guy from dinzag

-Vertical Grip: UTG Deluxe Vertical Foregrip

-Barrel rail for the light mount: here

    -Light: Surefire G2, or a ~$35 LED 1 or 3/4" light, suggestions?

    -Light Mount: this guy

    -Retaining plate: Shepherd's Crook Replacement

    -Recoil Buffer: Black Jack Buffer

    -Sights: something cheap

The questions, in order of my interest:

    1. Does the side-folding mechanism (ACE) kick ass? If it makes the stock wobbly at all when extended, I won't be happy. In other words, does it lock? Are there any disadvantages? I want to be able to slam it home like a first-timer into my shoulder, put it on the ground, etc., without pivot.

    2. Internal vs external receiver block. The internal looks a lot better. If I dremel the top tangs off my gun's receiver, it'll go right on? No welding or other trouble required? Anything I'm missing?

    3. Will a Surefire G2's bulb hold up to the recoil?

    4. Are the recoil buffers worth the money? Any disadvantages?

    5. Suggestions on the cheapest sights worth buying? I might just go with a $30 laser and call it a day.

    6. Is there anything I'm missing for my conversion?

    7. Is any of the stuff I've listed above junk? I see that the company that makes the vertical grip also makes a lot of Airsoft stuff...

Thanks much for your time. I've spent about five hours today researching this.

    1) ACE will not wbble or cave. They ARE truly a serious professional piece of EQ. I DO, however, recommend using Loctite blue on the screws to eliminate screws backing off due to vibration.

    2) Internal necessitates you sawing off your tang. If you decide to use another stock in the future, you are screwed. I don't believe in removong things--burning bridges. I use the standard receiver block and I left fold, so the stock (doesn't matter if Galil-style or six position) will rest on the left clamped mag [clamped mags are highly recommended] and simply fall farther closed under the spring tension after mag swap. Right folding kind of blocks the use of clamped mags.

    3) Surefires usually will. DO NOT use a Scorpion or any other lite that is only intended for hand-held use.

    4) Buffertech buffers are the best for AK rifles, BUT. . .in shottys, theymay interfere with the timing of SOME S-12s, so the Blackjacks may be the better choice. Definitely worth the $ and trouble. steel on steel bad, steel on buffer good.

    5) You can use the Leatherwood dot sight. At $75 a good buy. There are many MUCH cheaper red dots you can find, but they MAY or MAY NOT do what you want reliably or in rain. I use the Kobra. It is tried and proven in CHechnya under extreme conditions, and is not only designed for the AK platform, but is a damn sight (no pun intended) cheaper than Aimpoint of EoTech.

Re: FCGs: Personally, don't like the G2, because it lacks ANY "second stage" before it goes bang, which I find necessary. Actually, there are other FCGs, like the Century (believe it or not) or other brands (K-Var) that will give you a slight "second stage" befor bang. The second stage in an AK FCG is really nothing more than the hammer back coming in contact with the disconnector and engaging the added disconnector spring pressure. In the G2, the hammer NEVER comes in contact wih the disconnector prior to hammer release. I find trhat the G2 disconnector is too small to allow hammer contact. IF you have control of the number of US parts, you can leave in the factory hammer, which is longer and may contact the disconnector (G2, unlikely, or likely some other brand of hammer).

    7) I suggest serious vertical grips and all parts in general. SOME airsoft stuff is identical to real gun stuff, but some isn't. I have reallt great vertical fornd grips from CAA, TDI and other mfgs (for my AR, for instance) that will work well as well as be reasonably economical ($26.00).

If you have questions, I can post pics. I don't remember the brands of some of the stuff I use.

    I hope this helps.

  9. In closing: Tin foil hat-wearers, you may laugh at me when "the apocalypse" comes. Until that happens, I will reserve the right to laugh at YOU.

    start laughing.

Now that some funny shit! I do believe shit has hit the fan and I am arming up to follow my new leader. VIVA LEGONAS!!!

    EXCUSE ME, BUT. . .LEGONAS?????????

  10. A friend of mine is from Buffalo, his opinion of it was taat it was the asshole of the nation.

+1, I lived there for about thirty years. I'm in Florida right now. Stay in Florida! NYS hates guns. The laws are better upstate in the Buffalo area, but they're still pretty bad. Buffalo is an economic wasteland going downhill fast.

THat's the deal. IF I take the deal, I will be in the Upstate area. I am a lawyer ad a buddy is in a skyrocketing estate planning firm of his own creation. He WANTS me badly. . .but, I am VERY hesitant. I love it here in GUN FRIENDLY FL!! I carry here. . .I am on the BOD of onew of the largest and most significant IDPA clubs in the entire SE. MUch to think about. . .but $$$ is a powerful drug.

  11. Do what I did .......... contact NYS ATF and ask them directly. Then, contact the Buffalo police and see what they say. DO NOT rely on your local gun shops - most I talked to were incorrect. Go to the source for correct information. I was surprised to see their interpretation.

I hear 'ya, friend. Thanks so much!!

  12. You can't legally bring your handguns into NY state. You will need a NY pistol permit (which takes 6 months), then your handguns must be shipped to an 01 FFL. The dealer then "sells" your guns back to you and you bring the receipt/caliber/serial number information to the county sheriff's office. You wait a week or two for a judge to sign off on your handgun purchase coupons. When you get your coupon, you go back to the FFL and exchange it for your handgun.

State rifle and shotgun laws mirror the 94 AWB, sans sunset provision. Pistol-gripped Saigas are illegal unless you permanently convert it to bold-action or permanently limit the magazine capacity to 5 rounds or less.

Thanks much guy. But. . .is that NYC? Or NY State?

  13. Don't know about the shotty regulations, but as far as hi-caps and rifles: No magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, UNLESS they are pre-ban. Pre-ban AK mags aren't too hard to come by, but try to get some before the move. Most websites won't ship hi-caps to NY, even if they are pre-ban.

    [/quote

Thanks for the help, but. . .to WHICH BAN are you referring??? Federal? NY State? What year? Thanks so much.

  14. Here's my new S-.223 that I recently ran at several IPSC and 3-gun matches. She's tyh one in the midle, or alone in the pics. I have a quad rail forend coming any day now. Until then, the US replica for the AK-101 forend has been doing the trick.

That's great! I'd like to campaign a Saiga 223 in some matches but it's been years since I had enough ammo on hand to get my game anywhere near good enough for action shooting.

So what were the stages like?

Start re-loading .223, my friend. I have had to. Stages. . .well, IPSC rifle and shotty (by the way, I also kicked butt with my S-12 flying through 26 steels in five or six arrays in 41 seconds. I had two brain farts and one shell that got stuck/ hung-up in the extractor groove, but was fixed by a quick thumb press of the shell downwards. I should have done it in 35 to 36 seconds, but. . .se la guerre!!.

The shotty stage at the IPSC was six large poppers, three from each port of a two-port baricade, then four pedistal plates on the move (I was then ready for a mag change from an AGP [modified by me to actually work]). Then on to another port barricade with four more small poppers through the window. Then while on the move, another five pedistal plates, taking me to another barricade which we had to take 7 more large poppers (three from one side and four from the other). Even with the brain farts and one hang-up round. . .still 41 seconds, which was about 7 seconds faster than the hottest speed-loader tube-fed, semi-auto shotty honcho.

The rifle was 28 paper targets (two rds. per) with some no-shoots revealing head shots only. The stage had five positions and half of the targets had to be taken on the move. This was a "kinder, gentler" match that is usually designed by the guy in charge. The farthest targets were at about 50 yds and the closests at about 10 yds.

My IDPA club had six rifle or shotty (3-gun) stages last Sat. I designed a rifle stage that required the shooter to take 10 papers, with a fraction of the chest "A" zone and only a full head showing behind a hostage that had to be taken through a small slot between two horizontal Bianchi baricades and therefore the rifle had to be held SIDEWAYS!! Very valuable training stage.

THere was also another 8 paper stage at 25 yds from left of a Bianchi, mag change, and then from the right side. . .kind of like the IDPA classifier last stage.

The shotty stages were composed of six hanging plates (swingers) followed by two flanking paper targets for two pistol rounds, then again with slug on the papers first and finishing with another slug on each paper target. Hangers were to be taken from left to right, then the pistol on papers. . .riight to left, then pistol papers, then (string 3) outer hangers to inner, then papers for pistol (2 per). Exceedingly COOL!!

THen there were four TALL pedistal plates on the left and five bowling pins on tall pedistals on the right that had to be taken alternately, first string standing, then second string sitting. Very cool.

SUPER FUN stages!!!! Thanks for asking!

  15. Here's my new S-.223 that I recently ran at several IPSC and 3-gun matches. She's the one in the middle, or alone in the pics. I have a quad rail forend coming any day now. Until then, the US replica for the AK-101 forend has been doing the trick.

  16. Just a simple question ......... with the many feeding issues associated with AGP mags, why hasn't AGP come forward with tips on how to fix the problem. Instead we have to rely on R&D from their customer base. If they are not working properly, AGP should support their base and fix them. Any ideas?

I can fix them for you. PM me.

  17. Gents:

I have had a SWEET employment offer to make me consider tearing myself out of my super-sweet GUN-COMFORTABLE/GENEROUS home here in good-ole' SUPER-gun-friendly FL.

Does anyone know the laws, or more accurately, can anyone direct me to a gov. site that will answer all my dreaded gun, high cap rifle / shotty / pistol law questions for the Buffalo N.Y. / surounding areas??? I have been to the standard NY gov sites with no real answers about high cap rifle, pistol and shotty (box mag) in the Erie County area.

    Thanks so much, guys.

  18. Bullpups are the future.

Well, maybe your future. I don't care for them, and apparently I'm not alone. The design is not new, but still quite obscure.

The gentlema is correct. Cutting the M-4 down over and over is only destroying the ballistics and terminal performance of the AR platform. The Israelis have just overcome that nonsense with their new AK variant the Tavor. That represents 300 meter headshots (the full-sized barrel) in a compact rifle (M-4 sized) with legendary AK performance and reliability. Bullpups ARE the way of the future!

  19. I posted the message below on the IPSC Forum in the hope of reaching people who didn't subscribe to the Saiga Forum and I thought the replies I got sufficiently intersting to cross post them here so others can see. Having said that, if anyone does have knowledge of how to extend magazines beyond 12 rounds I would be interested to hear from them (and if anyone knows how to attach a drum I'll have their babies!!)

I also got a couple of very interesting replies plus another video from one of our Finnish friends which I think was so good I re print the link for everyone else to see. He posted some images of his magazine extention plus the housing which I've copied below.

The URL for the video is http://www.toiminta-ampujat.net/picture_li...PJ_saiga_02.mpg and I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as I did!!

I don't know why you are falling behind the tube guys. I just shot an IPSC rifle/shotgun match Tues night past (I have the factory BHO) and I shot 26 steels in 6 arrays in 41 seconds with two brain farts and one shell that caught on the sharp surface between the top guide tang and the one next to it. The next best time was 57 seconds which was another S-12 without the BHO, and the best tube time was about 60 sec. and MUCH worse. The mag loading boys (IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO PRACTICE LOADING!!!!!) absolutely smoke the tube guys, even with so-called "speed loaders" (they make me laugh!!!!!). Practice, practice, practice, AND count your rounds and knuckle the BHO for a last round BHO (that's why the Ruskies put the damn BHO behind the trigger in the first place!). If you lose count, you still can save by simply locking back and changing mags to another (he, he) 9 or 10 rounder in about 2-3 seconds!! I LOVE my S-12s!!

Message posted on the IPSC Forum.

I have to admit being a total fan of my Saiga as I love the AK look and reliability BUT I am struggling with mag changI posted this on the IPSC forum as I thought maybe there might be some people there using Saigas who hadn't read anything on this forum

[es, especially as my largest mag is only 9 rounds (8 shot mag with an extra one forced in) and I find it impossible to load either the normal 8 or 9 with a closed bolt. 5 rounders will insert on a closed bolt but the spring pressure seems to make it very hard to do on the bigger mags.

I do have a BHO fitted and an extension on the mag release but on a long stage I just cannot keep up with the big tube mags. I accept my choice of weapon may not make me competative as I'm sure there are better shotguns for use in matches but I would like to make what I have as good as it can be.

I know from the Saiga forum that a Finnish man has extended his 8 rounders to I think 12 and I plan to try and do that as well but, on being told of this forum, I wondered if anyone anywhere had successfully either MADE a big mag or CONVERTED a smaller mag (or even adapted a drum) to get the capacity up to beyond say 15 rounds.

I am not from the US so I don't have the DD problem so often mentioned so if anyone has any advice or comments I would appreciate either a post or a PM?

So, if anyone has made a magazine bigger than 12 rounds or successfully fitted a drum please let me know how etc?

  20. Friend. . .AVOID ANYONE who will suggest you put LARGER gas ports to accomplish a SBS barrel as opposed to the addition more of the factory sized ports. Some 'smiths have gone the larger port route only to have customers end up with shavings of plastic and lead in the gas chamber, which leads to many various problems, as you might imagine. However, the addition of additional factory-sized ports would have avoided that rather predictable problem. Choose a 'smith wisely.

  21. One comment. . .in my experience (about 3 years and five S-12s worth), the only mag that will cycle the S&B 12 pellet Bucks reliably with is the factory 5 rounder. That, in and of itself, is not a deal-breaker, but unless the select-swap of a five rounder is OK with your match plans, then I would advise against the ammo. If home defense or hunting is your only goal, then knock yourslf out with the ammo.
