  1. Not confident enough to do the FSB removal and replacement myself on my saiga, it's the last step in my conversion as everything else has been done by me, I just want to get a '74 brake onto my 7.62x39, so I'd need to install a threaded FSB. Does anyone know of any good smiths I could send my rifle to, to do this for me? If not, are there any idiot proof guides that I could read and possibly learn from? I don't have any heavy tools like presses or any of that, so I'm stuck with hand tools and vices. Thanks.
  2. You can modify them, but it has to be a permanent modification, like welding a block in to keep the round count at 10 rounds. If they are undated or predating the ban I can order them with as high of a round count as I want, but only if the seller is willing to ship them here... Alot of sellers won't ship magazines even if they are pre ban dated. I hope 44mag.com gets some undated poly 7.62 mags in, because they're pretty good about sending me stuff. I really appreciate everyones assistance thus far.
  3. Thanks, I don't think those Izhmash mags would be acceptable in a ban state like mine though. Thanks for the info though! Damn, I thought that they were pre 94 cause I remember reading that they were produced for only one year or something.
  4. I've got a random question which I haven't found much info on, so bear with me if it's already been asked. I'm trying to make my 7.62x39 Saiga into a spot on (sans folding stock) 103 clone, however, the surplus preban steel mags I can get here in NY don't exactly fit with the whole AK-103 look. The only polymer 7.62x39 magazines I've been able to find that look anything close are the Bulgarian bullet magazines. Not only have I heard they apparently suck, but I can't find a dealer who'll sell them to me being in NY with our assault weapons ban. (I'm pretty sure they were made before 1994, a
  5. Made a video today of my converted Saiga, I just ordered the front end furniture and gas tube/retainer, so it'll soon be prettier.
  6. As a very stupid person when it comes to mechanical things. (I managed to convert just fine.. i screwed up the bullet guide however.) How easy/hard/impossible is it to install a FSB, and what is the process for doing so? I really would like a brake and cleaning rod and such. Thanks.
  7. yeh, i just want to scope it to hopefully let it's range and potential shine to it's fullest extent.
  8. Hey all, i was thinking of turning my German K98K rifle into a scout rifle by replacing the rear sight with a picatinny, and adding a scope.. i was looking at these two products. http://www.milsurpstuff.com/proddetail.asp?prod=JH2732B Long eye relief 2-7X32 glass.. from AIM SPORTS. http://milsurpstuff.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MT015 also an aim sports mount, how do these look? thanks.
  9. Hey all, heres an update. After letting the JB dry for a few days i went out and shot it, i dumped 10 rounds through it (as i cant shoot here alot, so i do it in short bursts.) and the bulletguide + weld wasnt affected at all... besides, JB weld is used to fill cracks in engines, and with all that heat and shaking on an engine my dad had the JB weld on his stay there for 30+ years... SO in short, i think the jb will work, i'm just gonna go out with 4 full 30 rounders eventually and let her chew it up.
  10. I'll need a new screw also, right? where can i get the right size? and i'll have a friend of mine do it this time prolly, he's tapped before..
  11. It will work for a little while depending on how hot you get your weapon due to the swell and shrink of the trunnion with heat not because it will melt the 400 degree tolerant JB Weld. You should really very carefully ream the hole one size larger and buy a new tap to make for a permanent solution that won't crap out on you eventually. I know nothing of taps.. what size bit and tap would i need to go one size up, and make it work?
  12. Yeah, i plan on going out with 30 rounds and letting it rip, see what happens... If it doesnt melt in that 30 rounds rapid fire, and it functions fine.. i think i'd be safe to say it will work. But if it doesnt work then i'm going to either redrill and tap (last choice) drill through the trunnion (dont wanna really.) or try to find a way to weld/solder it down.
  13. Well, the good news is the JB weld is dry and it's holding amazingly strong. (I can yank on the guide with plyers as hard as i can and it wont budge a bit, i slammed it with a punch and hammer from the bottom side and it wont come off.) But will it get too hot and melt the JB weld where it's position, or is there little heat on that location? Because if all it has to withstand is rounds ramping up into the chamber, it seems like it's damn strong enough. Also: wouldnt drilling and tapping the next size up not work due to the specific size? I know i could weld it on also, but would solde
