  1. Can't help ya, dude. I reuse the trigger guards on my conversions (like most of us do [guess we're all not as ham-handed as you've been reading or something]). Whats that supposed to mean? Are you mocking me because i want to try something different? I thought this country was founded with Brave Warriors & Innovation...
  2. It's easy. 8/32 cap head screws. 8/32 lock washers 8/32 nuts You'll need to grind the nuts so they fit up next to the receiver wall (side benefit: they won't turn on you while you're tightening the screws) Folks have been doing this for ages. You're missing my point, though. Why are you gonna tear off your perfectly good mag catch, when all you have to do is re-use your original trigger guard? i DO see your point about the original Mag Catch and i agree with you but... I have seen a few reused trigger guards get butchered in the process by either getting b
  3. yeah i wondered about that a while back. I decided to go with the new NcStar Scout Rifle scope.
  4. well, whats done is done....what can i do about it? by the way...who does rivet work these days? can a regular gunsmith do it? Have you torn your rifle up yet, in preparation of installing this? If not, you can easily sell the trigger guard to someone with an AK kit that doesn't have one. . . and no, "regular gunsmiths' for the most part have no freakin' clue about building / working on Kalashnikovs. You're gonna end up paying a couple hundred dollars to a remote AK gunsmith for installation, or a couple hundred dollars for the tooling to "do it right", or you're

  6. I started tearing down my x39 to do the conversion. I purchased my conversion kit from K-VAR just to clarify incase some of you were wondering where my parts came from. ANYWAY... the trigger guard looks like it going to be a real B*tch to install due to the fact that ive got 4 rivets to remove without ruining the selector stop and some holes to drill in the new trigger guard for the Mag catch to work. PLEASE HELP ME! can i get some detailed instructions and maybe even a few pics on how to do this the CORRECT way? I know some people around here care only about function and some only about
  7. goto www.dpharms.com they have the flash hider your looking for
  8. Sounds like zeroing in my Shephard Scope that i have on my .223
  9. How do you sight these scopes in? Is there any trick to it? im used to my good ol' fashioned leupold scopes...lol the dials look the same, but with that reticle, things look a bit confusing...lol
  10. sorry for such an ignorant question, but ive been looking around and i cant find what kind of paint to use when doing your conversion / restoration. please fill me in, as i am getting ready to do my first conversion on my x39!
  11. I have a feeling my wife would think so, even if I found it negligible. Please dont take this the wrong way, because i mean you no disrespect, but if she is that scared of recoil, why does she even shoot guns in the first place? It comes with the territory...
  12. Thanks Man, that of one of the most honest and sincere replies i have gotten yet and i really appriciate that. Now, where can i find one of these POSP's you are referring to, and how much do they usually run? Is this a Dragunov style scope? i have alway wanted one of those!
  13. they work that well huh? i guess im glad i ordered them when i did, seeing how CSS only had about 32 of them left when i ordered about 2 nights ago...
  14. Honestly, I have 2 Saiga's: an 7.62x39 and the new 5.45x39 and both of them have recoil buffers in them, and i dont notice ANY reduction in recoil whatsoever in either of them! However, i do know that the buffers are put in place to keep the bolt carrier from beating the rear trunion and reciever to death over time, so in that aspect, they are worth it. As far as recoil, goto www.carolinashooterssupply.com and pickup a Saiga compensator for her. i just bought 2 of them, and i am waiting to get them in the mail, but i hear they are going to kick ass! might try one of those on your guns
  15. Are pre ban hi cap mags Legal to possess & use in CA? Ive been hearing a lot of Rumors that they are legal to use in converted Saiga's as long as they are pre ban...is there any way to confirm this? If this IS in fact true. where can you get pre ban mags these days? i figured they'd all be in private collections and or arsenals. and then there is always the roadblock that most companies will not ship them to CA.
  16. Only RAA Saigas are legal, all other Saigas are illegal to possess in California. Getting caught with a EAA Saiga will get you some serious jail time. The DOJ hates them all and will inaccurately state that they are all illegal when you call them. I did, and thats what they told me, but they will refuse to give you this in writing if you ask - as many have tried. That is why MOST DISTRIBUTORS will not ship Saigas to California. You can have a pistol grip, folding stock, and any kind of muzzle devise you want if you use a bullet button (considered fixed mag). Without a bullet button (any c
  17. yeah, ill let you know man. The way i figure it though, if they work for both the x39 and the 223 then then it should work for the 545 since the bullet diameter is slightly smaller than the 223...i can only hope Is there a 5.45 sporter out? I thought all the converted ones sold through KVar had threaded barrels? they've been out almost a month man...you just come out from under your rock...lol j/k
  18. i just ordered 2. One for my x39 and one for the new 545. Hope it works with the 545!
  19. yeah, i was looking at those NcStar Scout scopes for about $65.00 and i was thinking the same way you are about the knock around gun theory as well...ill probably just go with one of those. No sense ruining a good Leupold, ya know?
  20. Ok guys, Title says it all... I have a 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 that both need converting, but im having a few issues. they both need Front Sights and Gas Blocks. Are each going to require different types because of caliber? Im only gonna do this once, so i wanna do it right? someone told me that the 545 GB had to have holes in it or something to that effect and it scared me, cause i have 2 conversions ahead of me and i wanna make sure i dont screw something up in the process. the other thing is...i am having trouble finding Gas Blocks anywhere and im not really sure what Sights to go wi
  21. SO, what kinda Optics / Dot Scopes would you recommend to do what i wanna do?
  22. I know what you mean, but im not real fond of bullet buttons...
  23. I prefer the Ultimak with a Konus red dot like I have pictured here on my SLR105 (an Aimpoint micro will get you the same results). You should be able to use an Ultimak on a Saiga because regular AK gas tubes fit just fine. As for effective range, today at 300 yards with this exact setup I was hitting a half man size steel plate 100% of the time with rapid fire, about 1 round per 3/4 second with almost no pause between trigger pulls. I seriously mean quick trigger pulls, just enough time to let it reset before pulling again. I ran through 2 mags like this. You should have no problem h
