So what happened? just sounds funny that the guy wouldn't tell me the price

Update: Got a call from Herb's today (the bg check took almost 2 weeks instead of 1 week) and they said that the bg is done. I asked "is the rifle at the same price?" He said that it is and I can pick up the rifle during the next 3 days. Then I asked is it still "$349.99", he said "let me check" and went away for a minute, came back and said that there was a mistake and the manager took the rifle somewhere blahblah.

Drove to New Hartford's Herb Philipsons, they still had 7.62, 308 and shotguns. They said the bg check will take a week (they said b/c I'm not local), but they'll reserve a gun for me. I hope no funny legislation will be approved during the next week.

Those that were sold near Rochester are out of stock already and the price for all of them is $500+

Are there shops that sell Saigas not too far from Middletown NY (Orange county)? So far I've found a 7.62 with skele stock for $320, but it's near Rochester, 4 hours drive for me 1 way
