  1. "This is possibly the most important thing happening in our country right now......"

No, this is just the smoke screen before the real attack. Shits gonna get serious and when does it's gonna be real serious, real fast. But by that time, there may be little left to do but hunker down and ride it out. Fortunately, the faster Communism rises, the faster it falls. The USSR barely lasted a generation. And China has already started the shift to capitalism.

  2. "Boredom is the number one enemy of education/learning. So much attention is generally miss focused in the education process and takes its toll on the concurrent generations. Our pensions are screwed."

While public schools have always been behind private, its gotten substantially worse since "No Child Left Behind". More governmental good intentions gone bad and getting worse.

  3. I picked up a Romy top loader for $70 about a year ago at the local gun show. I love it, no issues and ya, it's heavy, lol. I keep mine as a "starter"/defensive position mag. Keep in mind that drums are notorious for jamming up a weapon (mostly full autos, iiuc) so keep some box mags handy to switch out, jic. But for range use, ya it's just plain fun.

And welcome to the "Drum Corp", enjoy.

  4. I got a letter saying my policy was to be canceled or I could extend it another year for $12 more per month. It's already gone up $40 a month since they first started talking about the ACA. Fortunately, I can get most my medical through the VA, so far. I just added dental this month in hopes of getting my teeth squared away before this shit gets worse.

  5. It all depends on purpose. Since I'm running a bullpupped RPK that is set up to run as either a DMR(like the Tobuk) or as the semi-auto LMG it's built to be, I like to have a nice variety, lol. I have a couple 10rndrs with my rifles preferred "sniping" ammo, a couple 20s for general use and a dozen 30s, a couple 40s and a 75rnd drum for suppressive fire. Purely for defensive purposes of course, lol. The 20s are the most maneuverable and preferred. But at the range it doesn't matter much for me since the mag is behind the pgrip, it can hang back off the bench. I like the steel mags better. Most of the polys flare at the bottom and take up more room in a pouch.

  6. I've been wanting to do this for awhile now. Nice start. But if I may, you may want to try a sling attachment at the rear. In this way, you can push the weapon forward like the pistol it is and the shoulder sling will steady it. Kinda like those subgun shoulder slings. This would also alleviate the desire to "shoulder" the rear of the receiver.

Just a thought. Keep us updated.

  7. Thanks for the input guys. I've come to the conclusion that I will likely get a ballistic helmet sooner or later. Not for "running about the woods" so much as part of a "last stand" kit at home base where defense may be more important than mobility. And/or as part of a vehicular kit where an extra few pounds wont hurt. I did read a bit in Popular Science about a helmet similar to the composite plates mentioned in the armor thread. Very light and rifle(308, etc) resistant.

I do agree that milspec gear is detrimental to "blending in". Unless everyone else is geared up too, lol. And may not be much use in a short term SHtF situation, but in the possibility of a long term situation with an extreme lack of RoL, it may prove invaluable. Esp in a defensive situation. Since the later is less likely, I'll do what I can on the less expensive side and upgrade after more immediate concerns are addressed.

Still considering a good "bump cap" though. I've done enough head knock'n shit to come to value at least minimal protection; construction, rock climbing/caving, riot control/SCA fighting, etc. Besides, it'd give me more territory to mount tacticool crap, lol.

  8. They were licensed for 71 guns. I count maybe 45. The AK pistol is minus the trigger assembly and safety, thus inoperable. Most the others are bolt actions, airguns and 22s. They mentioned a MP5 that I don't see. Unless they're talking about that thing that looks like an Archangel'd 10/22.

I've a friend that thinks his bolt action 308 will be safe from the gun grabbers he supports after a AWB. An AWB would only be the beginning.

  9. So what's everyone's thoughts on helmets for SHtF?

I prefer my boonie hats, but I'm 6'2" in boots and tend to bounce my head around a bit just walking around our house/barn/yard so am on the fence about a "bump cap" for SHtF. And then a friend kicked in with "If you're gonna wear a helmet, it might as well be ballistic, right?"

    So what's your alls preferences?

  10. I just picked up a set of AR500 plates but am yet to "bed liner" the fronts of each for splatter. I plan to run kevlar(2nd Chance or flak vest) under the plates for spalling. No not perfect but "every little bit" right. And ya, I know, heavy. But I've reached that age where I realize that I'm too young to die, but too old and decrepit to run anyway, lol.

Here's a good reveiw of the actual AR500 brand plates. They stopped up to 308 and 54R. The guy also is coming from a prepping mindset and not Mil/LE. Remember that the steel can take multiple hits years apart and still be fairly effective. Ceramics can take multiple hits also, but each hit shortens the plates usable life span due to micro fracturing. As civilians we most likely wont have a readily available resupply like our Military and LE brethren. What we have, is what we got.
