The National Shooting Sports Foundation(rule number 8) Before you load your firearm, open the action and be certain that no ammunition is in the chamber or magazine. Then glance through the barrel to be sure it is clear of any obstruction. Even a small bit of mud, snow, excess lubricating oil or grease in the bore can cause dangerously increased pressures, causing the barrel bulge or even burst on firing, which can cause injury to the shooter and bystanders.(nssf.org). Every Gun manual that I have seen has a similar warning. I do not think that anyone has said that guns will not fire und

That Bushmaster looks bad enough. Looks like his .223 ruptured alittle at the case. Makes me wonder how it would have come out if it would have been one of those bad boy 3" magnum 12 gauges, you know the ones with the big ole plastic cases.

MY S-20 is about a month old. I had the same problem you have. the only cure I found for mine was to use 3 Dram EQ. shells, MAX, or Magnum shells on gas setting "2". Hope this helps.

Has anyone here ever thrown a cherry bomb or M47 (firecrackers) in the water or better yet in a comode? Concusion underwater is greater than in air. How do you sink submarines? maybe with a depth charge? Sure you can fire your Saiga underwater, but don't be surprised at the consequences. There was a story in the news a while back about a young lad who fired a pistol in the family pool and lost part of his hand. What you need is a volunteer to demonstrate firing a weapon underwater.

I admire a brave Man! Firing a weapon under water? AK47 or Saiga? I don't think so, but seriously if you do try it, hook up a long piece of string or wire to pull the trigger because there will be an explosion! Water is a barrel obstruction, same o same o as a bullet lodged in the barrel. I know you probably would never do it, but some one reading it might.
  6. Major US shotgun Manufacturers(Remington,Mossberg etc.)rate their Full chokes for lead, steel,or any of the other type of shot. The barrels of these shotguns with the fullchokes installed are way thinner than those of a Saiga. Comparing it with my model 870 Rem. The Saiga looks to be almost three times thicker. Steel shot is normally used for hunting waterfowl and a high percentage of the hunters use full choked guns for the longshots and with steelshot that is required by law. All Saigas are advertised to have chrome chambers and bores. A bore that is not chromed and is steel will shine more

I went to the Gunsmiths today with my S-20 today and had it checked. He said that the gun was closer to being an improved cylinder than cylinder bore. He also said that most shotguns with shorter barrels should be cylinder bore if they were going to be used for home defense and that is the way US Gunmakers sell them. But anyway what you said where you would put your money was the correct answer. THANKS!!
  8. I also have a Saiga 20 that has the 09 choke according to the manual and it has the 09 marked on the gun. But I got suspicsious and measured the bore at the muzzle with calipers. Mine measured .615 which indicates no choke but rather a cylinder bore. If yours is measured and it is close to this you may very well be able to shoot steel shot all you want too. The chrome lining in the barrel of Saigas is also a plus when shooting steel shot. Most of Military weapons have chromed lined chambers and bore.

    Choke check

Thanks for the reply Indyarms. I had a feeling that i got shortchanged with the manual that came from EAA with the gun. But I thought that most of the guys with the S-20 got the full choke models. The Saiga I have will not shoot the cheap shells that come in the 100 packs from Wal-Mart. It takes at least 1oz. loads to be reliable. I plan on shooting the devil out of it anyway.

    Choke check

I was given a S-20 for Xmas and do not know alot about them but i am puzzeled about the actual choke on this gun. It is a 19inch model without the threads for additional chokes. The manual states that 09 marked on the left side means that the barrel is Full Choke. Looking at it got me to wonder if this was right, so I measured the inside diameter at the muzzle with dial calipers and it measured out at .615 which would indicate that it is really a cylinder bore on this Saiga. I hope that some of you guys can set me straight as to what the scoop is on this. It could be that I am confus
