  1. are you saying you see the gas port? =)

This is why I am not allowed to talk in public, I look silly

Must have just never noticed it before--It looked different than I remembered...I was hoping it was just the port. Well atleast its cleaner than it ever has been :)

    Thanks

  2. I grabbed my saiga-12...and unfortunatly it had been in the safe for about 2 years without firing--so I figured I would give it a good cleaning and oiling get all the dust off of it. After I did that I shined a light to make sure the barrel was clear and I saw something odd--its about 12 inches down...about where the gas turny thingy is, and its on the top of the barrel. I'm not sure what it is, I was thinking maybe powder or god forbid rust, but the patches come out clean. I got to looking and thought it might be an imperfection in the metel, or a chip or something--I've only got about 30 rounds through it, and that was 2 years ago, is this normal or should I be worried, maybe take it to a smith?

    Thanks

    Kevin

  3. Every since I got my S-12 back from the gunsmith(maybe before I can remember) when I tip the gun forward I hear something sliding then *tink*, and if I tip it up I hear the same thing slide back then *tink*. It sounds like its coming from the area where you adjust the gas setting. Is this normal? Please say 'yes' I am supposed to go out to the range this weekend :cryss:

    Thanks,

  4. hmm. I used to know someone who lived there and he said there was quite a bit of Russian culture. I think he was 1/2 Russian.

Did some research and it seems there is quite a bit of Russian influence:

Russia governed Alaska as a colony for almost as long as the United States has now governed Alaska as a territory and state.

Alaska has many historic Russian buildings. There are active Russian Orthodox Churches in some 80 Alaska communities, many of which still use the old-style Russian Orthodox calendar and celebrate Christmas on what is marked as Jan. 7 in Western calendars.

Except during the Cold War, Alaska and Russian natives on either side of the Bering Strait carried on with routine visits, seasonal festivals and subsistence trade.

No mention of Saigas though

  5. There is quite a large Russian population in Alaska, anyone from around there? I'm wondering if parts might be easier to come by up there given the culture. Heading up there on vacation soon, was wondering if it would be worth keeping an eye out. Any ideas?

  6. They fixed there conversion chart...looks like this now note it includes shipping.

8-round Saiga12 price-list inc shipping to the US

    1 mag = £48.00 (appx 91 USD) 4 mag = £170.80 (appx 325 USD)

    2 mag = £88.90 (appx 169 USD) 5 mag = £210.50 (appx 400 USD)

    3 mag = £129.50 (appx 246 USD) 6 mag = £251.00 (appx 477 USD)

Approximate exchange rate: $1.90 per a pound as on 13.04.05

  7. There were some serious public demonstrations in the city of Izhevsk... the demonstraters were angry with the russian government.  I saw it on russian television; it was recently broadcasted in the states.

    Found this:

". . . Businessmen, political parties and nongovernmental organizations in the Izhevsk, Orlov, Ivanovo and Altai regions appealed to Putin to dismiss their governors, citing a variety of grievances from poor management to a failure to provide winter heating.

Putin this month used his powers for the first time to fire a governor, the Koryaksky autonomous district's Vladimir Loginov, over a failure to provide winter heating.

Last Wednesday, about 2,000 people took to the streets of Izhevsk in a call for Putin to dismiss Udmurtian President Alexander Volkov, Kommersant reported Thursday. The demonstrators, many of them pensioners, accused Volkov of failing to make cash payments under the new benefits law, in a protest backed by an alliance of political parties and nongovernmental organizations. . . 8. I got a Remington 700ADL .30-06. I like it, shoots great it doesn't kick real bad. Grandpa used to down mountain goats with it from long distance, but haven't got a chance to test its range. I don't think you can buy the ADL new anymore--you might look into the BDL, the only real difference I can tell is the floor plate--ADL doesn't have one.

  9. Sorry this has probably come up before but there were a lot of search results...I would like to have my barrel threaded for Remington chokes.

Its a 22" fixed choke now...

I will probably take it to my local gunsmith...two questions, from what I've read I'll have to have the barrel shortened, how short?

Also my gunsmith charges by the hour--anyone know about how long this will take? Just a rough estimate--I'd like to go in there with a figure in my head--so I know he is not ripping me off.

    Thanks,

    Kevin
