    Barrel Issue

I grabbed my saiga-12...and unfortunatly it had been in the safe for about 2 years without firing--so I figured I would give it a good cleaning and oiling get all the dust off of it. After I did that I shined a light to make sure the barrel was clear and I saw something odd--its about 12 inches down...about where the gas turny thingy is, and its on the top of the barrel. I'm not sure what it is, I was thinking maybe powder or god forbid rust, but the patches come out clean. I got to looking and thought it might be an imperfection in the metel, or a chip or something--I've only got about 30 rou

  4. Sounds like there is more than more owners manual out there, this is not in mine. No where in the manual is adjusting the gas system mentioned.

You sound like the gunsmith I just got it back from. Except he was like "early next week"...for about a month. Thanks Kevin

    Slide noise

Every since I got my S-12 back from the gunsmith(maybe before I can remember) when I tip the gun forward I hear something sliding then *tink*, and if I tip it up I hear the same thing slide back then *tink*. It sounds like its coming from the area where you adjust the gas setting. Is this normal? Please say 'yes' I am supposed to go out to the range this weekend Thanks, Kevin

  8. Been to a few dunhams that still have these new for 229.00...
  9. Nevermind I saw the post below
  10. That is kinda stupid, you would think they would atleast put a "Posted On Date" or something if the ads are never going to expire. Thanks for the info.

    Alaska?

hmm. I used to know someone who lived there and he said there was quite a bit of Russian culture. I think he was 1/2 Russian. Did some research and it seems there is quite a bit of Russian influence: Russia governed Alaska as a colony for almost as long as the United States has now governed Alaska as a territory and state. Alaska has many historic Russian buildings. There are active Russian Orthodox Churches in some 80 Alaska communities, many of which still use the old-style Russian Orthodox calendar and celebrate Christmas on what is marked as Jan. 7 in Western calendars. Alaska?

There is quite a large Russian population in Alaska, anyone from around there? I'm wondering if parts might be easier to come by up there given the culture. Heading up there on vacation soon, was wondering if it would be worth keeping an eye out. Any ideas?
  14. That would really really hurt, might lose a finger if you are unlucky :/ . Thanks for the heads up, the only time I really use mine is loading the mag and at the range when they require the bolt be open.
  15. I had my stock S-12 safety knotched and it was fine, it turned out much better than I thought it would.
  16. Wouldn't really suck to be order 1271866 knowing that if you ordered a little bit earlier you might be getting your mag 2 months earlier
  17. My area Dunhams didn't carry the 12, only they 20's and 7.62x39's. If you want to check CDNN you have to call 1-800-588-9500. If you do let us know what they say--last I heard they were out, but they have a tendancy to find bundles of them every once in awhile. Kevin
  18. Not sure, don't think they have any left as of now, but you might check out CDNN for a stock Saiga-12. Mine was 315 shipped and transferred and I know they were running low--that was about a month ago. Page 58 of the cat. has the picture and specs. http://www.cdnninvestments.com Kevin
  19. 20. I got one from Kmart for 1.99 it doesn't look good, but it gets the job done. But since you are asking I figure you are going for a military look--so it probably wouldn't work for you.
  21. Found this: ". . . Businessmen, political parties and nongovernmental organizations in the Izhevsk, Orlov, Ivanovo and Altai regions appealed to Putin to dismiss their governors, citing a variety of grievances from poor management to a failure to provide winter heating. Putin this month used his powers for the first time to fire a governor, the Koryaksky autonomous district's Vladimir Loginov, over a failure to provide winter heating. Last Wednesday, about 2,000 people took to the streets of Izhevsk in a call for Putin to dismiss Udmurtian President Alexander Volkov, Kommersant rep
  22. "Saiga12 price-list inc shipping to the US 1 mag = £ 00.00 4 mag = £00.00 2 mag = £ 00.00 5 mag = £00.00 3 mag = £00.00 6 mag = £00.00 Approximate exchange rate: $00.00" Straight from there site I don't think its correct though
  23. I got a Remington 700ADL .30-06. I like it, shoots great it doesn't kick real bad. Grandpa used to down mountain goats with it from long distance, but haven't got a chance to test its range. I don't think you can buy the ADL new anymore--you might look into the BDL, the only real difference I can tell is the floor plate--ADL doesn't have one. ADL:
  24. Sorry this has probably come up before but there were a lot of search results...I would like to have my barrel threaded for Remington chokes. Its a 22" fixed choke now... I will probably take it to my local gunsmith...two questions, from what I've read I'll have to have the barrel shortened, how short? Also my gunsmith charges by the hour--anyone know about how long this will take? Just a rough estimate--I'd like to go in there with a figure in my head--so I know he is not ripping me off. Thanks, Kevin
