  1. Itching to convert. Just need a few more things.

  2. Ok I see. The saiga does come with a sheperds crook from the factory but its not as good as a retainer plate. I guess Ill just go ahead and order a retainer plate then. Would I have to have it installed for the conversion to work? or can it suffice for a few days without it? Its gonna be so hard having the parts and not jumping ahead and converting it as soon as I get them.
  3. Im awaiting the shipment of my conversion kit parts from dinzag but I noticed another part not included. The retaining plate. Do I need to purchase this as well to convert my saiga or is there already one installed in the factory version? I haven't found much on this after searching myself so I figured I'd ask. Since it isnt included I figure its an upgrade from the factory version but I really can't tell.
  4. Mines compliant either way. I wouldn't have it if that weren't the case. I just never actually knew how they went about checking compliance. But I see now what you mean regarding the add on charge.
  5. This may also be a stupid question but how would someone get in trouble for having a non compliant saiga? I've never been approached at the range or had my door knocked on by the BATF to check so I dont really understand how they go about checking people compliance.
  6. I'll take it. I live in NY and its a pain in the butt to find mags.
  7. Here's the link to the page that has the guide on it. Scroll down and click in "install instructions" and if you have any questions feel free to PM me. I would suggest doing it with a drill press but it can be done with a hand drill if you are careful. If using a drill press, after drilling the hole don't move the gun and insert the tap into the drill press and spin it with your hand. Knowing the proper way to tap a hole helps too. Ok thanks. Before Someone sent me a link to a pdf about the different levels of conversion. The one you sent me is exactly what im looking for. Thanks
  8. And this is why I hate forums. You get really nice people who help you and then someone being a prick about it. I asked about using a drum magazine before. Not about a conversion. I got linked to dinzag once and the help they had didn't help. Or at least the link I was given wasn't really a help. It was basically a list of 3 ways to have the saiga accept standard AK mags. 1. stick with the OG mag. 2. Modify the saiga and the standard magazine 3. modify the saiga completely. No instructions how. I just thought I'd ask more directly.
  9. I did use the search feature and found alot of other threads asking about various magazines for either already modified guns or just questions about regular surefire mags. I thought it would be easier to ask.
  10. I haven't yet found a good guide on how to convert the saiga to accept standard AK magazines. I live in NY and the 10 round ak mags are hard enough to come by especially when they need to be saiga specialized. I basically want to end up being able buy a regular ak magazine and have it fit. any guides you guys might know of will be greatly appreciated.
  11. I second that private message. I have honestly considered just getting them out of state and keeping them anyway but I'd rather not brake the law.
  12. Wow...I hate life right now. Right when I put a dent in my savings to buy a saiga the snow up here in NY ruins my car. I just found out that I need an $800 control arm repair after it bent from sliding in the snow too much T_T god....damnit.....
  13. Yeah I hear you. I'm not one to panic and speculate but I'm sure you all remember the unbelievable shortage of assault rifles when Obama took office. I just don't want to get shafted if they start getting bought up again.
  14. I plan on buying a 7.62 saiga from atlanticfirearms.com (if you go to their website its literally the first gun on the top left) in about 2 to 3 months. My friend is telling me that they may not be available in 3 months either because of the bankruptcy issue with Izhmash, and/or a new assault weapons ban that can pass at anytime. I don't really think it's something I need to worry about right now but what do you guys think?
  15. This may be a stupid question and if it is I apologize but after you install a bullet guide to fit the drum would that mean only the drum and a magazine similar to the drum would fit? Or could other standard AK magazines work as well?
  16. I don't plan on buying a drum magazine being I live in NY but I'm curious if the saiga 7.62 variant accepts any kind of drum magazine. I mean accept in the way that it would fit in a standard unmodified saiga without any welding or extra parts added to the magazine insert. I see many romanian 75 round drums online among other types of drums so it just got me thinking.
  17. This is the only skeleton-stock I can think of, that would work on an unconverted Saiga. But I see you're already leaning towards converting. I would highly recommend it. Chevyman has already posted the video I like to whore out. It's the best, as far as a basic conversion goes, IMO. There's a few of us NY'ers here. NailBomb, IndyArms, MCPNY, BigBoss, myself and a few others. Any one of us would be more than willing to answer any NY-specific questions you may have. Welcome to the forum! Where in NY are you guys from? I'm out on the east end of Long Island.
  18. Thanks for the link to the two posts. I checked out the video on Vimeo's website and it lays it out pretty well. I think I'll give it a shot now that I've seen the conversion done in motion. It helped a ton into seeing each step.
  19. Well I'm 19 years old and I have literally no experience whatsoever in modifying guns. I have a few guns already but none have been modified. I just dont trust myself modifying it yet. You sound just like me, I too was very hesitant to convert. First thought were, You want me to do what? I dont have the tools you're crazy. then...... http://forum.saiga-1...showtopic=48209 oh and this is the after pictures. http://forum.saiga-1...showtopic=48482 Long story short, you will not regret converting. I waisted more time making excuses why i didnt want to than it took t

  21. I'm getting my sporter model soon and I don't want to do any conversions on it. Im ok with the added length on the rifle and the only thing I want to change is the hunting stock. I've seen the Tapco AR type stocks and the skeletonized stock but are there anymore available that don't require and modifications? Preferably a thumbhole dragunov style one. I live in NY and I'm sure I don't need to go further on the gun laws here. I'm mainly just looking for a good thumbhole style stock that fits onto the sporter without any conversions. Thanks for the help
