  1. Perfect transaction. I had a shipping address issue and it was handled perfectly and accurately. Shipping was fast and the price was right. The ability to use Paypal was a plus too. I am very pleased and will purchase more from saiga12.com. Please stock some more items that I need, lol. I'll buy 'em. Maybe even another one of these stocks....

PG screw and nut would be a good start.

  2. I ordered the new AGP sidefolder from saiga12.com. I had a shipping issue and it was handled with accuracy.... because my stock arrived today. That was fast :)

Onward, I cut the tang off of my S12 and it took about 10 minutes with a Dremel and small file. I had to tap the reciever block in with a rubber mallet as the block fit very snug (perfect really). The stock looks nice and fairly rugged. I don't intend to use it as a baseball bat, so I'm sure it will be perfect for my use. It locks up absolutely solid. It takes a quick 'snap' to get it to lock in the open position without pushing the button. I think I may put a little lube where the button slides in until it gets broken in as it is a little stiff. I haven't really had a lot of time to examine it, but it looks like the QD point can be switched to the front and rear of the stock on both the left and right sides.

The pad on this stock is really soft and looks like it will be quite an improvement over the feel of my Romy sidefolder.

The stock doesn't lock in the open position, but it is farly stiff and doesn't just flop around. I'm unsure about how well it will stay folded while carrying the rifle slung over the back. The charging handle is very hard to get to with the stock folded. Those of you with the vertical Galil type charging handles will have no problem at all. My hand barely touches the stock while holding the pistol grip with the stock folded. I hope to see the range with it tomorrow maybe.

If this writeup isn't great, my excuse is that I have driven for almost 10 hours straight and I am extremely tired, lol. I got home and wanted to get the stock on and get a first impression on it. I was excited. Anyone else got theirs yet?

Thank you Makc!!!! Excellent customer service.... feedback inbound ;) I like the stock too!

  3. For my short nails there is no way I could push that detent without something other than the fingernail. This is much better for me now. I keep everything fairly wet so it cleans easy and I don't think I will need a tool now after rounds have been fired. I'll see soon. I plan on getting out to the range for some test firing again. Maybe tomorrow ;)

BTW I got my AGP stock.... that's another thread though....

  4. I also would have to say go with some type of choke. I have the hand adjustable poly choke II(soild) and it really dosent add that much length to the end of you barrel. I would say it adds less than 2 inches after its threaded all the way down.

Didnt know what pic was better flash or no flash.

Looks clean and simple. So many options....

  5. The stock , hell all the furniture is temporary till i decide which way to go .

I just ordered one of the AGP sidefolders. I'll let you know how I like it. I think it would look fine on there with the grip and handguard you already have. Also, I have vert grips on both of my S12s. I couldn't imagine shooting them without one. You may want to figure out a way to make a vert grip work with that original handguard. I did it without modding the handguard at all.... and it is solid. I may post about it soon. Looks like you have a good start going there.

  6. I've been reading quite a bit lately about making my firearm 922 compliant (especially since I ordered the 2 round and 10 round mags). I just have a stock IZ-109. I want to replace the FCG but I'm not sure which one is better and what website has the highest recommendation. I guess my questions can be summed up as follows:

    1. What FCG is the easiest to install and has the best performance?

    2. What site do you recommend purchasing from (I don't want to get ripped off)?

    3. Do I have to remove the BHO to replace the FCG (I like being able to lock the bolt open)?

    Thank you for your recommendations!

I have a Tromix modified Tapco G2 and a G2 set that I modified to work. They are both fine, but only after doing some work to them (to take the 'grit' out of them). I would assume that nearly all of the available single stage fire control groups would need some tweaking to feel nice. They all install the same. The only big difference is that the Tromix modifed unit doesn't need modification. There may be some other brands that are ready to use as well, Red Jacket, etc.. The basic idea of the modification consists of taking material off of the hammer to allow room for the BHO and taking that lump off of the bottom area on the striking side of the hammer. Also, use a small file to take the 'G' and the '2' off of the hammer before you install it. The hook on my trigger was catching slightly on the 'G2' on the hammer, producing a gritty feel. I filed the G2 down and the pull is smooth and the break is crisp for an AK.

Find the business member here who has the best price, including shipping. You may want to get a few items that you know you will need in an effort to get more for your shipping dollar (grip, grip screw and nut, buttstock, trigger guard, etc.). If they are in your state you will probably get state taxed on the order too, so take that into account. You are pretty safe when doing business with business members here. Bad news travels at the speed of light here....

  7. I have my existing 19" S12s running at 98% with the Winchester Universal. One has been exstensively tuned. The other not so much. The only aftermarket parts in the action are US gas pucks (not twisters) and G2 kits. I think all of the "fix-it" items are kind of like looking beyond the problem for a solution. I was just wondering if I should go ahead and give the 24" the same treatment I gave the others before I waste a trip to the range. Of course, I will treat the porting differently than I did on the 19" S12s and it will be converted and compliant ASAP. I have about 10 hours in the exstensively modded gun and I really don't feel like doing it again if it isn't completely necessary, but it would be nice to go to the range the first time with a good running 24" S12. Anyone know where they are for cheap? Every dollar I save is a dollar closer to the next weapon/weapons. I'm a cheap bastard :dollar:

  8. All the reviews I have seen so far have been completely impartial...oh wait...there was one rather partial one I guess. It just depends on what colored lenses you were reading them through....I know there was a lot of red lens wearing going on, and I don't mean rose colored....

I know one thing for sure...everything I said about the 20 rd drum was based solely on my actual experience using it...and videos don't lie either. It's a good mag.

    Welcome aboard Promag!

I don't believe you.... send it to me for a proper and unbiased testing :lolol:

  9. The brakes are just there to look cool, they really don't do anything for recoil.

The flash hiders, I have no idea if they work or not.

The breachers? If you're not breaching doors, why bother looking like a wannabe.

Poly-Choke slotted or non slotted is a functional attachment, letting you manipulate and extend patterns with buck and birdshot.

    Get a choke tube.

I would go with a choke if I wanted something in that size range. I just want a small US made device that looks better than a barrel nut. If it actually adds some type of benefit, great. I have the 10 slot Tromix FH and it is just way too long. The Polychokes look like they are close to the same size as the Tromix. I'll probably just get the ETAC. It looks nice.

  10. If I remove the Russian factory thread protector and replace it with a US made muzzle device (brake, breacher, FH, thread protector) I am GTG with the russian mag. What kind do you suggest and have you used a slant brake? Does it work at all? I have used them on non-shotgun AKs but never on a S12.

I already have a US puck, US fire control group, and US grip. I like the non-US furniture I have on it and I'm not attached to the muzzle device, so a muzzle device is my first choice to replace with a US part. All of my mags are US made except for one 5 round and one 8 round. I want to be able to use them legally in both S12s instead of just one S12.

  11. Welcome aboard.

I am going to wait for the inevitable sale before I get 12 round drums.... I don't want to have a MD situation on my dime. You know, buy now.... later they sell for less than half of what you paid in the beginning. I was a few clicks away from getting at least one from CSS before I read this.

On a side note, I hope this doesn't go where I think it might....

  12. I have an S12 that is one US part shy of me being able to use my Russian mag in it. My other S12 is GTG on compliance with the mag and has a Tromix 10 slot on it, but I want something shorter on the other S12.

It can be a flash hider, brake, or breacher. I am leaning toward the slant brake because of the size and I am wondering if it has any effect on recoil or not (anyone know?). For looks, I like the ETAC Mini Breacher Brake and it looks quite compact. I have seen all of these on CSS's site. Any other suggestions?

  13. The top rail and axis pin holes are the only tempering worries. Rivets are used because they draw the pieces tightly together, clamp tighter than screws, and unlike welds they are not prone to stress cracks. The same reasons that airplanes are riveted together.

    Makes good sense. Curiousity satisfied.

  14. I see a lot of people welding stamped recievers, but I never hear mention of tempering the metal. Factory recievers are tempered and I would assume that is why rivets are used instead of just welding the rails and trigger guard on at the factory. Can the factory temper be duplicated once a reciver has been welded? Does anyone have any experience with a welded reciever failing? The first S12 I bought has the trigger guard welded on and the weld at the rear of it gave up. I wish it had been riveted or screwed to begin with. There may be a completely logical explanation to all of this, but welding on the reciever seems like bad juju to me. What do you think about welding on a tempered sheetmetal reciever?

  15. I made both of mine run with Winchester bulk, because if it will eat that.... I know it will function off of anything I happen across in hard times. From the look of things lately, I don't expect anything to get better soon. What if the OP needs ammo and all that is there is Winchester bulk? What if he wants to hunt birds, lol? However, some people don't have the patience to keep fondling the weapon until it works as they wish. I do. I say press onward and make educated decisions on what to do to make it run like you want it to. Everything you need to make it run can be found in this forum....
