  1. Read "On KILLING by LT Co David Grossman"

Training is the key to defending yourself. Once you commit to use your gun your training will do the rest.

I was taught years ago that it is not so much a thinking mans task but a trained mans task, training takes over because it is a habit.

Ever try to break a habit? Train right to defend right. You also must understand the laws of your state and what happens if you were to take a life in self protection, this is the thinking part of it. You will need a lawyer and insurance because right or wrong its going to cost money if it is not clear cut and on your property and that's not a given.

Personal protection is a way of life not just shooting a gun and I'm sure you know that. Cover all the bases .

    Be safe.

  2. Wise food is a good company http://www.wisefoodstorage.com Al my freeze dried meats come from them, and then we have ordered the freeze dried meals by Mountain House and we get there 7 day boxes from http://www.nitro-pak.com/about-nitro-pak both are great .

I do not eat MREs' for the same reason my wifes father who was a ww2 vet will not eat spam.

The meat and meals taste great, easy to fix, easy to store and it has a 25 year shelf life. We have about 1 1/2 months of food.

Water should be part of your plan long and short periods. You can get a 66 gallon bladder that fits into a bath tub for about $25 and it works great.

As for grains like rice you can do that your self but they can be bought as well in10 lb containers

You can get butter in the can and this is the way to go.

Store what you like or what you will eat. history tells us people have died with food around that they would not eat. If you have done survival training its important to keep food and water running through you at a regular time. Food that constipates you need to be a concern

We love to watch the panic that goes on every hurricane season by last moment people.

And last but not least 12 gauge ammo for your S-12 for you know who.

You do need to have a plan that is a part of you life. That way you can build up you store little by little.

Some people plan for short problems like hurricanes others will plan for the God forbid times. both are correct.

    Hope this helped

    Good Luck

  3. like Max, I can't stand not having it be off. I mean if it were a Kalashnikov, I wouldn't even be posting this.

Blasphemer! I'll have you know, Mr. Fancy AR, all my AK sights are straight! wink.png

If you truly can't stand it, and the manufacturer has walked away, then it's your problem. It wouldn't change the outcome for me. I'd get them lined up to the receiver and the bore as well as possible, without damaging functionality. If you can't do it, take it to someone that can.

Or I guess you could put a couple of lasers and red dots and scopes on it, since it's an AR. 021.gif

Yah! watch your mouth Mr Fancy AR guy.

  4. While the above suggestions are good, I'd also add that it is worth looking into smith and wesson 422, and related models.

They are cheap and reliable (except the most expensive target models had too heavy a slide and therefore are picky about ammo)

Upsides: unique feel, unike magazine release that you either love or hate, sites about .75" above bore, so perfect host for a suppressor (it costs about $26 to get a thread adapter), unique grip angle

Cons: Expensive mags ~$26 each, not intended to be fully dissassembled, distinctive grip angle and mag relase may not be your thing.

A comment on the walther p22 and sig mosquito: A lot of those seem to break. P22s seem to have a fair amount of variance in what ammo will run in them. Some are picky as can be and others don't care. On the plus side, or minus - depending on perspective, they kick a lot for a .22 and make a lot of noise, so they kind of feel more like shooting a larger caliber.

If you know anyone who has a 422 with wood grips let me know (what a gun) can't find the around here

  5. The model 10 had great wood grips ,first revolver I ever shot. Did not look like it would feel right but it was. Right from the moment I held it.

Then they changed the grips down the road when cal. got bigger and you needed something like a Hogue.

I have 2 guns with Pachmeyr grips, just like them better.

If things keep going like in CO we may all be back to the revolver

  6. I have to tell you this stuff is amazing.

250 rounds thru the pistols, opened them up and to our amazement "clean' with exception of brass dust and a black feed ramp.

Took my finger and lightly wiped the feed ramp and it came off right now .Same way with all the guns. It was like it was just laying on the feed ramps and the barrels were clean also.

Gun care has just gotten easier.

A big thanks to all on this forum who turned me on to this stuff. Why I am so happy i could kiss a CA Senator! (NOT!)

Thanks all, at this point in life I am a happy man.

  7. The wife and I will be shortly heading to the public range to practice her pistol skills ( when she gets up)

I have treated 4 of my guns with FROG LUBE.

Let it be said, to remove the CLP and coat the guns with this green stuff is a bit of a hassle but it smells good and is showing some promise.

I started a week ago with one on my daily carries Glock 27. No staining on the suit or other.

Dry but slick! Before shooting I would say it is about 10% slicker than CLP on the Glock and all other pistols XDM & M&P.

Also have one rifle a Remington Speedmaster 552 22 that was my hunting rifle when I was a kid and always jammed up needing cleaning after 50 rounds. Cleaned an buffed the action which helped a lot but after the FROG LUBE I would say 25% better. So we will see.

Just in case I do not like it Frog lube does have a solvent to remove it from metal but I have high hopes.

Just think I missed my favorite sitcom syfy show NCIS to do this. Who said old men do not scarifice.

I know that this is not political or anything but it think that a person can come away from this forum with some basic facts.

    1. Young women still have breasts because I have seen the proof on this forum

    2. Young women with breasts can be made into a personal moving avitar

    3. Never knock a sporting shotgun or the sport "everybody needs love sometimes".

    4. Nobody wants to date the great Senator from CA and will never make her into a personal moving avitar on this forum (moving target maybe)

    5. You can't fool me you are all looking for more ammo.

    6. Some of you learned french and when frustrated love to impress us with it

    7. None of you voted for Obama.

    8. Every one here wants Magpul to set up in their State so that they can get a job with them in order to score cheap mags.

    9. NY politicians will not be getting Christmas cards this year from any of you

    10. Who in the would would study a ducks dick?(on a day when life was smashing waves over my ships bow I read this and laughed till it hurt) thanks for posting it.

Time to wake up the wife.

    You all be safe hear!

  8. That is what I like about Tennessee. No matter the gun law you break if you break it in defense of yourself or others any charges for breaking the law is dropped. You can have a gun illegally on your person and if you use that gun to save a life you cannot be charged with anything related to the gun. Also in Tennessee if you shoot someone and it is determined to be justified you are excempt from any civil proceedings against you.

    39-17-1322. Defenses.

A person shall not be charged with or convicted of a violation under this part if the person possessed, displayed or employed a handgun in justifiable self-defense or in justifiable defense of another during the commission of a crime in which that person or the other person defended was a victim.

Section 39-17 deals with weapons offenses.

    And the defense statute

39-11-622. Justification for use of force -- Exceptions -- Immunity from civil liability.

    (a) (1) A person who uses force as permitted in §§ 39-11-611 -- 39-11-614 or § 29-34-201, is justified in using such force and is immune from civil liability for the use of such force, unless:

    (A) The person against whom force was used is a law enforcement officer, as defined in § 39-11-106 who:

    (i) Was acting in the performance of the officer's official duties; and

(ii) Identified the officer in accordance with any applicable law; or

(iii) The person using force knew or reasonably should have known that the person was a law enforcement officer; or

(B ) The force used by the person resulted in property damage to or the death or injury of an innocent bystander or other person against whom the force used was not justified.

(b ) The court shall award reasonable attorney's fees, court costs, compensation for loss of income, and all expenses incurred by a person in defense of any civil action brought against the person based upon the person's use of force, if the court finds that the defendant was justified in using such force pursuant to §§ 39-11-611 -- 39-11-614 or § 29-34-201.

Determined to be justified is the double talk sticky part. Who determines? if it is a jury you never can be sure.

Heck, let them have NY. Erect 10' high fences around the state to keep all of us "conservatives" out and let them live in bliss.

The problem is that they want it all, the whole country, no fence will keep them in.

its like cancer fight it or die

  9. Why would a person who lives in a State that is trying to remove guns out of the hands of every one. Who is smart enough to become a millionare. Have an unlicensed gun in the first place ? To much dumb on both sides for me. When is the wind going to change for NY? When will they stop looking at Gun owners as criminals. When will the gun owner take it serious enough to get a Licence and know the laws of the State. I am not for restrictive gun laws at all but if I want a gun to protect my home "now" and not fear Jail. The no brainer is to get the License and then elect people who will change the laws.

NYs' laws stink . But to not know the gun laws of NY to a point that you incriminate yourself with video is beyond dumb.

Everyone who owns a gun should have a general understanding of the States gun laws, I think we can all agree this is General.
