  1. tigerclaw,I thought i'd share this story with you about armed citizens deterring crime.

Over the last several years drugs have become a serious problem where I live, but all of the assaults taking place are in a small area of the inner city, where the majority of the poorest residents live. Most of these people couldn't afford a firearm or can't legally own one due to a criminal record.

Enter my brother-in-law.He was dating a girl in said neighborhood, and was confronted late one night by a would-be mugger whom he quickly deterred by brandishing his carry pistol. The guy ran up to him from behind, but Phil, being paranoid like me,half expected trouble and had already drawn his gun when he heard the guy's footsteps. When he realized the guy intended to hit him,he fired two shots into the dirt, which sent the asshole packing. The cops showed up and took Phil to the police station, and after he explained what had happened was sent home (sans pistol). The police caught the mugger the next day,who was wanted for various other crimes, and returned Phil's pistol to him a few weeks later. It's a crime to discharge a firearm within the city limits, but due to the fact that the gun was fired in self-defense,no charges were filed against Phil.

I do agree in principle, that simply owning a firearm doesn't guarantee your safety. But,if you are willing to use it to defend yourself it greatly increases the odds in your favor!.

  2. Back when they still imported it I used to have loads of fun with the steel core chinese 7.62 ammo, shooting every/anything I could find to see what it would penetrate.Too expensive to play with nowadays.

Tried a box of 12 guage tracer rounds once, quite fun at night!.

  3. That's pretty much what I did with mine, painted the reciever/barrel just before final assembly (used the same paint, too :D ).Then I painted the fcg, bolt carrier and top cover gloss black, just for a contrast.

  4. Yeah,PA is pretty strict (snappers and crackling balls only),but at the time that the gun shop had them for sale ( a few years back),you could purchase the 'pest control' salutes after signing said forms, (the salutes had 'pest control use only' stickers on them).Don't know if that's still the case,as I havn't looked for any since then (and it's easy enough to find the "other" kind at the local flea markets!).

Just did a search and could only find launchable birdbombs, none with a fuse. The feds probably put a stop to them long ago.

Joe,which gun chewed up your shoulder?.Btw,the usas was packed with crud when I broke it down, mostly bits of plastic melted to everything (i'm guessing the buffer from the buckshot rounds).Guess it needs cleaned after EVERY use-too high maintenance to suit me!.

  5. Joe,I think you have to sign a form provided by the seller of (said) birdbombs, stating they will be used for pest control (as opposed to 4th. of july celebrations, and the like!).At least that was the case here in PA,there may be far stricter controls on them elsewhere. Also,i'm referring to the type with a fuse, similiar to an M-80;there was a gun shop in the area who had some a few years back, for something like two bucks apiece.

  6. czgunner, the guy was full of crap!.I'd put money on the fact that he's never personally fired one-or just wants to sell you whatever shotgun he happens to have for sale at the moment.I've fired about 400 rnds through mine without a single misfeed, using 5,8 and 10 rnd. mags.Trust me,you'll never regret getting an S12.
