  1. Hell yea. Tear it up :super:

I also bought another Saiga 12 at the match from another shooter just in case they get banned. I hope they don't and I wrote a letter to the ATF for public comment.

    Pat

    .

I shot my R and R targets for the first time at a match this past saturday at the DoubleTap ranch in north texas. I placed 2nd in both shotgun stages out of 29. the only one who beat me was using my new Tromix S06. He only beat me by a little over a second per stage because i let him use my 20 rnd drum. I had to reload each stage. That does it, im dumping the 150 bucks for one of the 20 round mags RandR makes!

  2. I have a 3 port gun what i had taken apart and polished the bolt and carrier and profiled my trigger and that didnt help with FTE

so i took off the gas block and did the D mod to uncover 2 ports and i drilled out the middle one with a 3/23 drill bit and left the other 2 alone.

result was that it was firing low brass remington game load now on setting 2 but it would FTE if i shot from the hip or shot limp wristed.

on the second range trip i did yesterday the gun was the same as the first but i had installed a Tromix charge handle so i pick up the gun and lock it to my shoulder and the first 3 rounds were FTE's i was puzzled because i had been using the same working ammo and working mag as the last time where it had been working 100% at the shoulder so i sat there and thought for a wile and decided since the only thing i had changed was adding the Tromix charge handle i decided to remove it and what do you know 20 rounds and no FTE's.

From what i saw my gun is barely running and it is still undergassed because just adding a few grams of weight to the bolt carrier actually made me FTE

with that said i need a little help deciding if i should open up both of the remaining holes with a 3/32 drill bit or make my gun into a 4 port gun what do you guys think?

    What do I think?

    Booster puck

    V-plug...

This made both my guns run from the hip with even the crappy winchester value packs. Even with the V plug on setting 4. I have a v plug and booster waiting for my Tromix S06 which should show up Tuesday. Definitely the way to go.

  3. Tony just sent me my UPS tracking number for my S06. been waiting since Jan 3. Hope its worth the wait. I'm sure it is.

Now don't do like me and misplace your magazines for it. I got mine Thursday and have torn apart my house looking for where I left the magazines at and have yet to find them. So make sure you know where they are located at before it arrives. Also if you take it apart to look it over when you put back on the top cover pull the charging handle back while holding down the cover to make the button pop out of the hole. I scratch up mine to the point I said screw this I am calling to see how they got it to pop out of the hole cause prying at it with a screwdriver was not working.. Now only if I had been smart enough to hold the cover down when yanking on the charging handle I would not have needed to call. Instead the cover keep popping off and all I could think was thats what you get for taking it apart you better break down and call before you scratch deep enough to where the metal shows.

That wont be a problem. Since i placed my order back in Jan for the Tromix, i bought a couple others. Have a stock K-var which i will eventually convert, although i kind of like it the way it is. Also bought an RandR targets tactical gun. I have drums and mags laying all over the place!:super:

  4. wow glad I have 3 of them

Any of em better than this..

    ?

    I doubt it. ;)

I only have the 1 currently, but she's a beaut!!

I'd really like a couple more for future, (as yet undetermined), projects, as I said.

    fin

I also have 3. Bought em a few months ago when this ATF thing first came out. I could have bought a lot more but didnt. i only want/need 3. I would consider 2 of mine better......I have an RandR targets gun and should receive my Tromix early next week. Tony is finishing it up this week. Its an S06 with bbl cut down to 18". Didnt want a perm attached flash hider, wanted the flexibility to add a choke for 3 gun. My other is an un converted K-var 19". I planned on converting it but the more i shoot it, I really like how it is now. I may send it off to Tromix later to have them work their SBS magic on it......still deciding

I could have bought 4 others from kvar, and had 5 in my cart. I paid 519 for mine berfore all this silliness. then i remembered back before the elections how all the douches were buying up everything, even if not needed. I decided i would only get what i need and just bought the one.

  5. I love my booster pucks. have one in my stock K-var and my RandR targets gun, along with v-plugs. neither gun cycled the bulk pack while shooting from the hip, now they have no problems. i can even shoot the low brass on setting 3 from the shoulder with only a couple FTEs...perfect on setting 4.

I even have one on order and another vplug (in the mail now) for my Tromix S06 which is being completed this week. should have it next week.

  6. I recently received my new RandR targets tactical gun. it would not cycle the low brass walmart stuff reliably. I would have 1-3 FTEs per 10/12 round mag with the stock plug. Its a 4 holer and nothing is covered up. I then ordered a v-plug and a KA puck. Tried the gun with just the v-plug and same thing, even on setting 5. Popped in the KA puck and viola! Flawless since. I have tried to shoot from the hip, and no go even with the KA puck. I stumbled on this thread and just ordered 2 boosters. One for my RandR gun and one for my stock Kvar/Arsenal. Will order another booster and v-plug when my Tromix gets here (I was on the Jan build list) gun should be being built as i type this :super: The KA did definitely help my FTE issues but will see if the booster puck will allow me to shoot from the hip. Never had issues with my stock kvar, it wont shoot from the hip reliably either.....but i figured why would I really care if it shoots 100% from the hip.

  7. 10 round clip with 2 3/4" with 00 buck and #4 shot alternating. The wife can shoot that with no prob and little recoil to stay on target or multiple targets for when I'm not home. Also do not have to worry about going thru walls and into a neighbors house like a magnum slug would.

They make a clip for the Saiga?????

  8. I follow the advice of one of the foremost experts, Massad Ayoob, and I load 2 3/4 inch #1 Buckshot. 16 pellets, all of which will reliably reach the required 12 inches of penetration in ballistic gel. More pellets means larger surface area means more stopping power. Anything smaller than #1 buck won't always hit the required 12 inches of penetration.

    This

  9. edit.

I've shot about 30 or so of them thru a stock arsenal S-12 and a sweeter than hell RandR targets tactical gun. Neither gun would run them on setting 1 with the stock plug, no problems on setting 2. I have the MD arms V-plug in both guns now and they only run on setting 5 (most gas). So they are a little weak in my opinion but cycle fine on the correct gas setting. They also dont kick nearly as bad as buck shot loads.

    For the price....cant beat em.

  10. I have never understood why people waste money on these different pucks. I have used the factory puck and it runs just fine. I can shoot slugs, Buck or Dove loads and it does what it is supposed to do. Why donkey $ for a different puck when the one that comes with the gun works???

My new RandR targets tactical gun would not cycle the federal bulk packs reliably. I dropped in a v-plug....a little better but still a couple FTEs per mag. Dropped in a KA puck and what do you know. Not a single FTE in the last 200 or so rounds!!!!! The KA puck helped me out with slightly undergassed gun. YMMV

  11. Well took out the RandR targets gun again yesterday with the new parts. I put in the V-plug and emptied a couple mags of remington heavy dove 7 1/2 shot. I had an FTE with each mag. I put in the KA puck and shot a hundred rounds of various low brass cheapo specials. Not a single problem. I think the KA puck definitely helped my reliability issue.

Didnt need the reduced power recoil spring

  12. Going to pick it up tomorrow if all goes well. I'm nervous about looking for the ports.

Take the paper clip.....I just looked real closely at my new Arsenal S12 I got from K-var. It shoots great, even birdshot. I was curiors so I looked in the gasblock real closely with a flashlight. I could only see 2 ports no matter how hard i looked. I found the 3rd port hiding right near the hole in the gas block. Its not visual by eye but i found it with the paper clip.

Once you take off the gas plug you will see....just make sure the puck is out of the way.

  13. Find the poll concerning diff pucs and the result. I think you will find the results were sketchy at best. I havent seen any conclusive evidence that replacing your puc will help.

    puc

I guess I will find out. My new RandR targets tactical gun has some issues with cheap low brass birdshot. About 15% FTE. 4 ports are clear as can be. I ordered the ka puck as well as MD V plug and reduced pwr recoil spring. The OEM puck doesnt seem as nice(machining) as the OEM puck in my stock Arsenal s-12 which runs 99% on the crappy stuff.

  14. Just a minor suggestion from someone who has just recently converted my first... dont go crazy buying stuff you dont need yet. By "dial" i assume you mean adjustable gas plug. The stock plug works well for many people, and getting a new one isnt going to make your gun run any better. The only thing it might help with is avoiding over gassing your gun on mid/high load shells. In the begining you will likely have trouble shooting the light loads anyway, so dialing down the gas is not a big concern, unless your shooting heavey buck or slugs, and setting 1 on the stock plug is sufficent. Also i cant think of any reason to replace your piston unless you need it for compliance reasons. Most of the aftermarket pistons dont offer any better performance than the stock one. Some have even been known to degrade performance....

If it were me, I would get yourself the new stock, a tromix trigger group/guard, and a new pistol grip (dont cheap out there). That might be enough right there to get you compliant and you will have yourself a nice shooting gun. New foregrips and accessories can come later after you got the gun dialed in. You might want to spend the $ on getting your bolt professionally profiled/polished before dropping $100s on extra stuff you dont need, like pistons/breaks/Gas plugs etc etc.

I thought the KA puck was supposed to help with birdshot on guns that had issues.

  15. I posted this in the 922 section but not a whole lot of activity there, and i have researched quite a bit. I just want to make sure I'm not a Felon!

Im 99% sure my stock Arsenal s12 from K-var is good to go. I just want to make sure.

I have the K-var SGL12-02 with the Arsenal inc hand guard and threaded bbl.

To use the high cap mags I should already be good to go, mag = 3 parts and arsenal hand guard = 1, this brings the 14 parts down to 10 correct. I also have a us made choke threaded on the bbl. So in essence it only has 9 foreign parts

Am I compliant and how bout the MD arms 20 rnd drum?

    Thanks for the help

  16. Im 99% sure my stock Arsenal s12 from K-var is good to go. I just want to make sure.

Am I legal.....I dont want to be a felon!

  17. Having some low brass FTE issues with my new RandR targets tactical gun. Have 150 rounds thru it now and still having about 2-3 FTEs per 12 rnd mag with cheap low brass on setting 2. Ports are not the problem. I ordered a KA puck and V-plug. Also a reduced recoil spring just in case. Works fine on hi brass 00 buck setting 1 stock plug.

I have done a search and cant find anything relating to Vplug with KA puck. Lots of info about gunfixer plug and KA puck. I went with a V-plug because it works nicely in my stock arsenal s12.

I'm thinking the KA puck alone should solve my problem but i like the convenience of the v plug.

Any issues with the combo of KA and Vplug?

  18. Is this a common need to do type of thing. I just got my Kvar S12 and it ran almost flawless with setting 1 using a box(25 rounds) of #4 buck. I had one hiccup with cheapo birdshot on setting 2. The next outing with V plug installed, it wouldnt cycle the high brass buck and slugs on setting 1 or 2. Setting 3 was fine for the high brass. It ran the cheap stuff on setting 5 but not on 4. Has 150 rounds thru it so far and has run 100% on the settings stated. Does this seem ok, or should i fiddle with it? Did I just get lucky, or was i not unlucky?

On a side not, just took delivery of my RandR targets tactical gun. Haven't shot it yet but dont anticipate problems with that gun

Well, took out my RandR targets tactical gun sat and sun. Works great on high brass. Not so great on the cheap federal remington or winchester. Had about 15% FTE with all low brass on setting 2. Have 150 rounds thru it now. I ordered a KA puck, MD V-plug and if those dont make it 100% reliable i also ordered a reduced power recoil spring. Think this should iron out the kinks. It has 4 ports and all are clear so thats not the problem
