  1. Yeah, it happened to me. Dinzag was really cool about helping out and offered to work on a custom solution but the bottom line is for the Saiga .308 is the barrel is very thick and most standard AK handguards don't work. My solution as offered by Dinzag was to fold aluminum foil down into the lower handguard ... I have noticed in my very unscientific tests that this provides a very good heat shield even when the barrel is very hot from rapid firing the handguard is usually barely warm and it eliminated all of the "play" from the front of the handguard tilting upward. He also offered an alterna
  2. The picture was taken while just cycling by hand. That seems to suggest most of the problems you listed with the ammo would be eliminated. I do have a Tapco G2 FCG and, assuming, a TAPCO hammer. I'm going to try to investigate this hammer spring and TAPCO hammer theory further. Also will be buying one of your mags after Christmas if I can get this issue resolved so I don't lose my mind!
  3. Too late, some guy from the government already said I needed to turn it in because it was something called a "dangerous assault weapon" so I just handed it over along with all the knives and forks in my house just in case.
  4. Not sure what is up with this gun. Have a serious love/hate relationship with it. Went to the range a few days ago with four SGM mags and one Promag, all high capacity 25 and 24 rounders, respectively. Using wolf ammo with has never given me a problem ... after my second magazine nearly every round is a failure to feed. I am attaching a picture below ... I can't figure it out. I have one magazine that seems to feed reliably and the other four are all having issues but I can't find any real difference in why they would be doing it after taking them apart. The gun is thoroughly cleaned, cycl
  5. Ahh, OK. My bad ... ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it!
  6. What does that mean, contributor?
  7. I have four of them, 25 rounders for the Saiga .308, they won't fit in any of my MOLLE gear so I am thinking about selling them and just getting some factory 8 rounders. They feed fine, lightly used. Anyone want all four for $110 with free shipping? Paypal preffered. Sorry if this is the wrong place, couldn't find a place to start a new thread in the WTS section.
  8. So my build is almost complete (aside from a few cosmetic touches) on my Saiga .308 so once again I turn to the Saiga gurus for some advice on which rear rail system to get. First off: Will they fit the Saiga .308? TWS says that it will and markets it for the Saiga .308. Parabellum has yet to reply but one of their distributors, AIM, replied and said it would if the Saiga .308 has a standard AK dust cover. This isn't something I know off hand. Which one is more rugged? I have yet to see torture testing on either but I'd like to see them dropped, thrown, rolled, etc. Not that I am plann
  9. Weirdly enough the stock I have been using, a recoil reducing kicklite stock on the Saiga 12, does not have a second hole. I screwed a steel screw into the plastic ... I will report back on the results.
  10. Can you explain what you mean? I'm not sure I have two screw holes. Pictures might help.
  11. Where did you get that metal strap, out of curiosity? I like your idea and would like to replicate it as close as possible.
  12. Maybe this will help ... as you may or may not be able to see, the lower tang that was attached to the stock trigger guard is removed when you do the trigger conversion ... so what is the fix to secure the new stock?
  13. Hey guys, Posted this in the .308 as well but since it affects both my Saiga's and the Saiga 12 is far more popular I decided to post it here as well: OK, so my problem is this: I have two converted Saiga's, a .308 and a 12. I did not do the conversions personally ... I noticed recently that my stocks have some wobble to them after firing ... usually just tighten up the screws. Then when I was looking at it I realized to try and figure out why it kept happening I realized there was no rear tang ... well, lo and behold I watched a conversion video on-line and realized that the rear lowe

WTF? What is the fix for this? Try to find a machinist to spot weld that piece back on? Or something simpler tha
  15. Awesome JT, thanks so much for the clarification! Getting kind of annoyed with the VEPR marketing about how much stronger and thicker the VEPR receiver is.
  16. Thanks VR6! That is mighty kind of you. Just trying to get these specs nailed down. There does seem to be a lot of experts on the internet for sure.
  17. Hey guys, Just a quick question to the experts out here ... working on my Saiga .308 build, generally very happy with the rifle. I am curious though ... while researching specs there is some debate about the receiver thickness versus the VEPR model. Some claim it has a heavy barrel, some claim it doesn't, some claim the receiver is as thick as a VEPR, some say it is a standard 1 mm receiver thickness. Just trying to clear up some issues about S308 construction and durability. This guy on AR15 states: In the .308 version, both brands use the wider RPK-style trunnions (and thicker 1.5mm
  18. OK guys, I fixed the problem. Man! The mags were way too high in the back. Looking at them I shaved off probably a mm or so to get them in line with the factory and the promag. Now they feed on a closed bolt with no issue.
  19. Thanks. It is ... the magazines that feed show a lot more of the shotgun shell than the SGM's do. I'm filing them down now. Will report back.
  20. Yeah the Krebs is cool but pricey. Have other gun priorities before I drop $50 on the safety. I was more hoping someone might be able to offer some insight on how to trim the mags.
  21. Gun is converted but I don't think that is the issue. It's something to do with the way the SGM mags feed I think.
  22. I don't think you understand what I'm asking. I can load them on the closed bolt easily enough --- with the SGM magazines I just can't charge it once it's loaded.
  23. Hi guys, Playing around with my Saiga 12 yesterday and I had a catastrophic jam up running birdshot. We were doing beer can skeet with el cheapo Federal bulk walmart birdshot out of a promag drum when on the last round my BHO jammed up into the gun and caught the bolt. Needless to say I was suprised to say the least. After much fidgetting I managed to move the bolt forward just enough to clear the spring and break down the gun. I was perplexed at what happened ... somehow the BHO spring had come loose and jammed the BHO inside the gun, locking the bolt, well, open. Weird. Needless to s
  24. I'd love to learn how to field strip a magazine. Any guides for the SGM's?
