Does the RSA VEPR .308 FCG need the washer to take up space? Is it really a true drop-in with no adjustments?

I just paid $650 today. I thought I got a pretty good deal considering the prices I was seeing for AR's and AK's, if you could find them. I don't think anybody recognized the potential.
