  1. yes it is if you're practiced at reloading...i have been using my saiga in competition for some time now and have gotten the reloading thing down pretty good...i used it for the first time since the pistol grip conversion this past weekend in a match and won...i am really thinking that the bolt hold open would be nice...not the notched safety lever but the real one.....where might i find this piece?...i know i've seen them before but i can't remember where....
  2. thanx.....yes i got the rail made for the handguard of the M4....
  3. yeah i went for a different look too...
  4. i think i like the one piece design better.....but then i don't have screw in chokes to deal with....
  5. with an AR stock on a saiga you don't use the AR buffer and spring...the tube is empty.....and what i meant was if i shoot buckshot, slugs or high brass shells like maybe remington express #5's for example....the recoil is pretty substantial....the stock doesn't absorb recoil well and the pad i have on there is very thin....add to the equation that i sawed 4 3/8" off of the barrel and you've got a cocktail for some ass kicking recoil....but if you're a real man you should be able to withstand it......
  6. actually the stock holds up very nicely....however the recoil is considerably punishing if you use hi-power loads....i was raised not to be a pussy however so i am going to just accept the punishment and go with it...maybe a thicker rubber recoil pad would be in order in the future but i'm not going to hurt myself looking for one...
  7. that's crap....you can shoot the foster style slugs all you want in any choke....the lead is soft enuff to deform and you won't hurt your barrel, the only adverse result is reduced accuracy due to the deformation of the slug....i've shot hundreds of slugs thru multiple barrels of various chokes and never hurt one of them....it's an old wives tale told up here by a bunch of old wives....
  8. adam G knocked it off at DOM the other nite.....i'm exploring other ideas anyway... sam tells me you're getting a C like his....watcha gonna do with your 12 you have now.....we should talk....i like doing the conversion myself....
  9. i cut mine to 18.5 inches which gave me an improved cylinder bore **.720"** and i found that in order to feed and eject low brass field load shells i needed to move the gas setting to 2 , **the low power setting**, i usually kept it on the high power setting **1** always......i have a "buffer tech" buffer in it so shooting high power shells after moving the gas setting seemed to work fine also .... i was concerned about this before cutting but all is well and i've run about 100 rounds of mixed power shells thru it since cutting it....just move your gas setting and get a buffer....you'll be
  10. i've been working on mine little by little....here's where i am right now...
  11. i'd be interested in one...... 1. Steel or aluminum. aluminum if it's strong enuff....if not then steel 2. Standard AK sight post or AR15 post. not sure what the difference would be....can you enlighten? 3. Open ears as picture, or closed. i'd like to see your example of closed....you mean totally closed, like a peep??
  12. ok first of all...."you're all wrong"...well maybe not completely but i just liked the sound of it!!!.... choke is based on a constriction of the muzzle in thousandths of an inch based against the cylinder bore measurement which in the case of a .12 gauge is .729 inches....different manufacturers use slightly different measurements to determine their chokes but they vary only by .001 of an inch or so.....the original choke on the saiga was truly a "super" full choke as it was tighter than any of the other "full" chokes on the various charts that i found...my barrel originally measured 22 7
  13. we've been scouring the laws for over a year now...knowing the AWB was gonna sunset ***or at least hoping*** and no where have i seen anything to make me think what we've done so far is not legal...the 8 round mag thing has been a thorn in our side for a long time too as we could not find anything concrete on them that said they were illegal for civilians to own....again a grey area with dealers....so we went to england to get them...now we have them and i'd like a few more please...
  14. some of the matches we shoot, you're just out in a big field and there are several stages so they'd need a canopy at every stage....there's just not much if any shade to be had....i switched from a black tac vest to a desert camo one and i made a huge difference so i figger'd i'd do the same with the saiga after the conversion....i know that sitting in the sun it'll still get warm but hopefully not blistering hot like before.....the mag?....that mag was purchased from assassin on this forum.... test fired the saiga last nite for the first time since finishing the conversion and it worked g
  15. i didn't know we were....we've been going over this issue for over a year now on several different forums and digging out rulings, laws and info on this subject in preparation for the AWB sunsetting....and now we're gonna tuck our tails and say "please mr. BATF , can i convert my gun"??....mines done....and my name is ken.
  16. i used the tapco G2 for $39.99...get the single hook and save yourself some work....i got the double hook and it works fine but i had to dremel out some of the receiver to make room...the single hook will drop right in....
  17. oh crap ....we're screwed now!!! i better start putting mine back like it was....and burn these mags...
  18. it's definitely gonna get a unique paint job....haven't decided which colors yet...i want to to be different from any other saiga ...one of the problems i've had with it being black is that we shoot alot of summer matches where it sits in the sun until it's my time to shoot and by then it's so hot you can hardly hold on to it....i'm thinking something in a lighter color that doesn't get so hot would be good.....maybe a desert camo pattern....i'll be sure to post pics....
  19. ok here's a picture of the conversion with the collapsible stock....it's mo' betta.....
  20. red star arms had an adapter that allows you to mount an AR type stock to the AK style reciever...i just got a collapsible AR stock in today...it's even more better .....i'll post a pic of it later.....yes ken i'll be bringing it monday nite if you wanna take a look at it....got a few more mods i wanna do and then i think i'll be finished with it ....for a while......
  21. it's a tight fit...you may need a rubber mallet and an extra pair of hands.....mine was like that too and that's what it took....
  22. is there a table somewhere that gauges choke measurements?...for example, i have a full choke saiga12, i measure the inside diameter of the muzzle end of the barrel and it's 0.xyz inches.....then i cut off about 4 inches of the barrel and measure it again and it's 0.abc inches.....is there a standard measurement for 12 gauge chokes and where would i find these measurements so as to acertain where i am with my new choke....or possibly chokeless barrel?.....
  23. hahahaha.....years ago i had a van that was painted in a brown woodland looking camo pattern, but if you looked closely you could see that the darker areas were actually silhouettes of naked women in various poses....i called it mammaflage.....a derivitive of the mammary gland.... wouldn't it mess them up at the shotgun matches if i dressed it up in a mammaflage pattern and them whupped ass with it????hehehehehehe.... and yes some chrome on it wouldn't hurt either.....
  24. yeah i figger'd after i test fire it i'll strip it down...loctite the nuts and bolts....smooth it out and put a paint job on it....re-assemble and it'll be ready for the next tac shotgun match....haven't decided on a which color yet.....maybe something in chartreuse....and mauve....
  25. the trigger guard was the hardest thing to do....and fitting the double hook fire control group....i've taken it apart so many times i think i could do it in the dark now....i test fired it yesterday with no stock on it and it fired fine, but then i cut the barrel to 18.5 inches....mounted A2 stock and trigger guard this evening...i think it's gonna be sweet!!!
