  1. This bozo on another board who gives his location as Indianapolis had this comment about Saiga 12s.

Those are great guns, really reliable and can lay down very scary firepower. Unfortunately, I wish I could see them in the hands of some better people (all the folks at our range that have them are a little seedy lookin' and tend to not follow range rules). I dont see the military using them b/c they are foriegn made, plus dont we already use Benelli's for MP work? Someone help me on this one...

Would you please clean up a little :haha:

Doesnt see the (our) military using them eh?

~Pure and to the point on that question. "Clearly", the bozo has a "foot in mouth" problem.

Tromix. Serving feet since 1999 :lolol:

  2. Paranoia... always seems to be the "expert opinion" from those who are untrained in any sort of medical profession.

As for Alaska...way too cold lol. New Hampshire is open carry -even in court houses. Too bad there's not a lot of huge business up there that I know of.

Texas is very gun friendly too for the most part.

I moved to Ohio after living about 20+ years in Reno. A little bit of culture shock with gun laws (shooting places or transporting etc).

This was just one of those things that adds icing to the cake. Sad really.

  3. Sorry for off topic....BUT

The Beta can handle the 7.62x39? I figured it would be too large / angle of round perhaps being an issue too.

I've been seriously debating buying one and doing exactly what I see in that pic -only for my RPK 74 (5.45x39).

Wonder if that will fit in there.

Send me a message or create a new topic with a good set of closup pics for me to work with if you can... thanks :)

  4. And thats my point...cash will not be a safe haven since they will now have a way to track the weapons you own.

Don't misunderstand. I agree with background checks for store purchased guns (which they are "supposed" to clear records of after the check is completed or 24 hours...or something like that).

But if you buy a private purchase of a .45 ....well now they know that too.

Just saying its not to simply verify your citizenship or if the ID is indeed real.

No, they want to KNOW about purchases of types and amounts of ammo for a reason.

All dots have a reason and lead to the next dot....

Could it be targeted confiscation during the next Katrina?

Could that be you get pulled over and it shows on the screen that you own a .45?

Ah well...to each their own with the info.

  5. Just got back from Wally-world this morning. Figured as long as I was there to pickup some target ammo.....blah blah.

I was told by the guy there at the counter that since my total was over $100.00 he had to see my ID to verify my signature to my card....no big deal.

What I found interesting though was that he told me that soon (I think he said this year or next) that the Feds were going to have them "swipe" your ID for any ammo purchase over $100 -or- if you buy any pistol ammo.

He said that they would be required to ask if the ammo was for a "pistol" and if so = swipe the real ID.

I told him that if they forced me to swipe, they would lose my business. He said wal-mart would probably be out of the ammo business anyway really.

I was rather annoyed about it since Real ID is only supposed to show that you are indeed an American and the mere fact you have one, it proves it.

But to hear that you would have to swipe for ammo? WHAT? To "prove" that ID is me? That's the whole point of the damn thing!

No...its not to see if the ID is indeed legit. Its tracking purchases. Period. Call a spade a spade.

In other words....Its a poor man's Gun registration. Think about it~!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Granted not all states have Real ID.... Ohio unfortunately does. Regardless, I can see some issues for people on the horizon and thought to give the heads up.

So there you have it folks. Keep your ammo purchases under $100

And be sure the 9mm in the future will be for an AR or something. Make that .45 be for a Thompson "of course".

    Pisses me off.

  6. Not sure what I started.... but was just trying to help. Finding the "correct" side mount can be a pain

(especially for the RPK74 that you won't likely get one in your torched kit. NDS receivers are without rails of course).

I tend to edit my posts often for spelling.... I'll be sure to enter why I edited to reduce any confusion when in the WTS/WTT/WTB sections.

Didnt think it was an issue.

  7. I went to the saiga store....

I found something odd, maybe I'm just paranoid.

Notice anything odd? Bah, it's probably just me.

I searched ebay and there's one on being sold by: Joehilarious.

Probably best to direct questions to him.

  8. I have an RPK 74 and found my side mount from Russia on ebay

Just do a general search for "Saiga" and you'll see the exact mount right away.

Was about 25 bucks or so.

I got it exactly 7 days after ordering (good enough for me).

You'll have to go elsewhere to find the rivets though.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Side-rail-mount-for-SA...1QQcmdZViewItem

(granted this one is like mine and is technically correct for my rpk74...but they were also used on ak74 series as well. Fits all my side mounts just fine btw).

  9. I snapped mine off (on purpose) and placed a Limbsaver grind to fit pad on there. If I recall, Tony offers the Limbsaver as an option for the stock (not sure if still an option). But in my case, I had a extra one at home and decided to mount it myself.

Small medium and large.... I used a large but I think if I had a medium would've been suitable as well. Hardly much difference between those. Its not the width to worry about -its the length that you want to look at. Tony would know for sure though.

Just line it up, mark the holes and set aside - then be steady with the drill (if you dont have a press) for the medium-thin pilot holes (compared to suppied screws).

(You're asking for problems of alignment or split stock if you dont pilot hole things like this).

Then just mount it on there with a power drill and screws provided. Rock solid mounting really.

Granted I still have to take it to a belt sander to bring it in line ..but it looks and fits just fine even if you dont.

Perfect fit for me. I can fire slugs all day with no effect on me at all. I went through 250 buck and slugs one day of fun and had nothing sore at all....not one iota.

Extremely well designed. No slip on the shoulder at all either. Great item.

  10. Since you're going to the range.... you've figured out the magazine release lever...RIGHT?

    :P

    Had to say it :haha:

(on a side note...I spent 20 mins figuring out how to place the gas tube/gas selector cap back on my Sig 556 once when I 1st got it).

  11. I posted on these a long time ago... I still have a couple boxes of 10 sitting in the safe at the moment too.

Short version: Essentially - they suck in my opinion.

    Longer version:

Originally I bought them thinking I would have a steel case for the top round to reduce deforms while loaded on the bolt...

The problem I had with these rounds were 2 things:

    1) the rim for extraction is part of the steel case and its rather slim. There's a chance (and more often when the gun warms up) for the extractor to literally slip off that rim. The rim seems rather slim to me.

    2) What you basically have is a 3" case that is "plugged" back to about 1/2 inch or so (too tired to look up my actual measure of it.

Well, that causes a problem if you use a bolt that isnt shaved down underneath (even then, I doubt it would solve the problem).

If the magazine is full (10 rounder for example) then when you "rack" the bolt back to chamber the 1st round, it will catch and literally "crimp" that unsupported end of the shell (remember, its plugged in a bit). I supposed if you only loaded up 9 shells you would have the room to perhaps "encourage" the shell to move into the magazine a little....but again, it has no support and will probably crimp/jam on you.

(*also, as most russian rounds go, not reloadable as far as I can tell....good luck on that)

I'll try to dig through some of my older posts and update this one......save your money. Buy shells that are "full". The shells are fine for single loading for fun or perhaps the last 3 shells in a mag since there's much less spring pressure....for the most part.

HERE it is...just look for my avatar down in there for my results/opinions:

  12. Tony or Bob might be able to answer this...but I believe that rule is for conversions and the like.

Things like shark brakes are one of the few exceptions (considering its sending to you and not an order to weld it on there).

Then again, that could depend on how many he created for his stock as well.

Might want to consider asking :)

  13. I was talking to the wife about the fact that all of these things happen in gun-free kill zones. She wants to know --WHAT did the people who had these areas DO to provide for the safty of the people who come there????

We have a God given right to self defense. If you kick a dog you cannot sue when he bites you. He has the right of a dumb animal to defend himself. That is the right that cannot be taken away from us. It is hardwired in instinct to defend themselves.

We do not suddenly and magically loose that right just because are human. The asshats that demand you leave your weapon behind must provide you with at least the level of security that you could provide for yourself. By denying you means of defending

yourself ---they assume the responsibility for your welfare. If they do not provied it then they must be held liable for any damage or injury you recieve. BIG $$$$$ Lawsuits!

Maybe the bottom line is the only way to get their attention.

Well said sir. I too believe that this is the only way that anyone will listen to the logic, or rather, lack of logic that these type of premesis bans presents. If they do not want your LEGALLY carried gun to enter then they had better provide an equal measure of protection and when they do not, then they had better expect multiple multimillion dollar lawsuits not only by those who had been denied their right to be armed but also those families of those who could have been saved by someone else being armed.

My thoughts. Any person in that mall that even heard the shots at the time was at "risk". Every one of them should be suing them for the mental trauma of being helpless while only being protected by cameras (etc). Why wait to be injured? Why wait to have damage to your property? Heck, any business owner who rents space from that mall should have a law suit for LOSS of business due to the mall's gun free zone (unless they signed some contract that said specifically, more or less: you understand its a gun free zone and will abide by the rules....etc).

In other news, you had that Colorado shooter who was killed by a CCW holder at the church (or mission?). Anyway, at least they made specific mention that her action likely SAVED the lives of HUNDREDS.

I think they should concentrate on THAT comparison.

  14. Saw this in one of the other sections on the board that some website "saigastock.com" was operational...so I checked it out.

    http://www.saigastock.com/index.php?main_p...products_id=136

Anyway, I saw a choke set on there for 89.95 (seems about $10-15 over the average asking price I see posted here from time to time).

Never bought from them, so I don't endorse. Just pointing it out for you.
