  1. Mandrels are a BITCH!  Buy NEW mandrels, as you will seldom be able to remove one without snapping off the bolts. Use anti-seeze liberally on the bolt threads of the new one.

PS Always keep the old belt for the blades, new belts will not  slip, and cause damage when you hit something. Nice worn , old belts slip enough to let the blades survive when you hit a rock or a dog toy.

  2. I would expect the best barrel for accuracy would be a good CM nitrite treated one. Most likely the longest lasting due to hardness, and accurate due to the machine-ability. Stainless is not a real indicator of  the metallurgy of that barrel.

Adding chrome to steel makes it "stainless".  This can be rust proof, OR NOT.  It can be very hard, OR NOT.  It can be tough,OR NOT. I would refer to what those who use that particular stainless barrel say about how it works in the real world.

I would do the CM with nitrite myself, because I am cheap and not afraid to oil the shit out of it. If I were to use it for hunting in nasty weather I would pony up for stainless.

I would stay away from hard chromed barrels if building for accuracy, they are best at longevity. The chrome plating adds a few thousandths to the surface, that has to be calculated in machining the barrel, and does not coat with a completely uniform thickness, so it will never be as accurate as barrel that can be made to size.

  3. You NEED a riding mower.

If you have $$$$ zero turn mowers rock.

A good rider will work, and yes you can pull a swing mower or 2. A friend of mine had 20 acres to mow, so Booger would scrounge old push mowers, and made a rig to tow 2,3,or4 (depending on how many would start!) of them behind his tractor. He could get his place mowed in no time!

Find a 36" lawn tractor with a bad motor. For $450 you can buy an INDUSTRIAL rated replacement motor. ONE WITH AN OIL FILTER! The motors with a filter last for ever, they have an oil pump. The cheap motors are splash oiled and are shit, they do not last.

I am running a 2008 mower with a new engine 2 years ago, it is a grass eating bitch!

  4. How do you keep a security clearance when you are having an affair? This is PROOF of mendacity, and SHOULD result in IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL and firing ON THE SPOT! For all of us mere mortals, who have had to behave to keep our clearances, and many have lost them for just this reason - can someone explain why the rules only apply to minions , and are completely flaunted by those who deem themselves as our masters (and call themselves 'public SERVANTS?).

  5. Passage would give the lunatic left 4 more SENATORS! That would force Texas to split into 5 States, which would give the right 6 more Senators, and the left 2. Thus restoring the balance.

The whole damn thing is preposterous, Cal would have to invent some legal mechanism to do this, and that will not be tolerated by the rest of America. Texas on the other hand can split into 5 States any time they wish - that right is incorporated in the enabling agreement that granted Texas Statehood.

  6. I have a '99 Burban - 7.2,eng (454), 480le 4X4. Parts are not bad, considering they are mostly HUGE!  It is a typical Chevy, the door handles and window regulators are shit. The drive train is solid . 230,000 miles and still has not had a head pulled. Uses about 1 quart of oil every 3,000 miles. Will hold on to it forever, as they are just too handy NOT to have one. I AM looking for a more practical DD, as the Burban gets 10 MPG. The same mileage empty, full, pulling 9,000# trailer in mountains,or cruising empty. 10 MPG. BUT it hauls 7 people or 10' 4x4s or,a pallet of cement blocks .

If you want something cheaper and still as useful then a full sized van is perfect. Just get a 3/4 ton chassis, the 1/2 ton ones are shit for hauling heavy things - including People!

I would go for a cheap used van and a couple smaller and less $$$ to operate DD's and a used van for hauling people and stuff-unless you can find a screaming deal on a Burban .
