  1. I had one of those but sold it. I got it for my S-12C Conversion.

Problem was that the Grip was about 1/4" longer than the pistol grip plate I had already installed.

I did not like the un-sightly gap so it had to go.

It would look killer if you did not have the grip plate installed.

  2. Thanks for all your photos, and experience sKott. It helped me greatly to buck up and do it myself. I don't think I'm gonna ship most of my AK's off to other people to build. I see where the time comes in. But other than welding. It was awesome doing it myself.

I'm shipping my S-12 off to Elk River tommorrow morning!

Getting her welded, and riveted. Can't wait to get her back!

I can't wait to see the picts...

I'm not understanding exactly what you trimmed. the button in photo 2 doesn't even protrude from the rear of the stock, correct? What else what cut/filed?

The rear plate will need to be trimmed

    EXP1.jpg

I also had to file the plunger a little because after trimming the release on the plunger was even with the plate (no where for the hook to grab)

This shot shows how the latch and plate should line up. If the plate is left too long it will not engage the hook at the tapered section.

    Hope this clarifies....

Need a few pointwers in the buttstock to retainer latch area.

With anal-retentive use of calipers, and SLOW hand filing(takes quite a bit of time, and patience)..I have the S-12 receiver done. I've gone over the holes with calipers. It's right on the above measurements.

I've noticed my front latch retainer assembly is a bit further back under that rivet than yours. But it shouldn't be the problem I'm having. Actually. It should help!

I can push my buttstock on the latch. But when pushing in the buttstock cleaning kit/buttstock release button. It doesn't push the latch far enough off the buttstock to release. About .02 I'd say. It's right there. But it makes the buttstock button kind of go off center and catch on the side of the ring in the buttstock cleaning kit end.

I've tried 2 of my AK-100 buttstocks. One is a bit better. But both wont unlatch. I even filed a bit more to the right of the latch, in the rectangle to allow it to lay further down against receiver for release.

I'm gonna get with a friend, and member here later this week. He built his own AK-103/Saiga. His is nice. But I think I see why his rectangular latch hole needed to be longer than the stock measurments though. Maybe he ran into this as well?

I haven't riveted/welded yet. But i was testing fitment to ensure It would come together. Placing rivets, and pins in the buttstock, and rear trunnion.

It looks perfect. I keep guaging it with the calipers. It's right on. But I feel I have to maybe file a fraction off somewhere for give.

When aligning up the buttstock to latch, and looking down between them. The latch seems too far forward from the buttstock catch. Like its not on the downward rounded end, but more towards the flat top part of the curve on the retaing latch. But when I push. It does move inward, and rearward towards receiver. It does latch on. Getting it undone is another matter. A bit tight.

    Helpful hints?

Been waiting 4 years with these parts now. I'm doing it slow, and correct.

    Thanks in advance.

p.s. Elk River gave me the same quote for weld up/riveting of trigger guard.

I had the same issue. The latch cannot go any further back or it will be in the mag opening. The solution I was given was to trim the buttplate and the plunger:

    Trimmed Plate

    Trimmed plunger.

I was told that this is how they do it at the factory but have not seen any proof. But it does work.

  5. How about 2 round mags, for shooting waterfowl? Should I just settle for cutting off a piece of wood that'll fit and act as a spacer, or are the 2 round mags better for the job? Where can I get those cheap? Anybody know? Just waiting for my backordered shotties to come in on that container.

Factory 2 round mags are quite hard to find. I have a 2, 5 and 8. The 2 rounder was the hardest to locate.

Hey Skott, how much do they run on the websight?

I paid $189.95 for the sight, $8.50 for shipping and Because I live in Texas I had to pay the $15.68 in State Sales Tax.

    Total of $214.13

Came with the sight and base, Battery, Russian Case, Cleaning Cloth, Sight Adjustment Tool and Instructions in English.

  9. I had a Saiga-12 member or two ask if I could make/modify a trigger guard and selector stop for their S-12 conversion.

So I will be making a few sets this week.

Will sell for $60 includes parts, labor and shipping. I will be ordering supplies on Wednesday afternoon. Interested members will need to pay by paypal on or before Wednesday morning (06-18-08). Post here and PM me for paypal address.

    Thanks - sKott

  10. Thanks everybody...

Last thing I have to complete is Hrad Chrome plating the carrier, BHO Lever, Hinge Pin and folder lock.

I will have this one and the Carrier from my AMD 65 build done at the same time. (Hopefully in the next month or two).

  11. The biggest problem with offering a "kit" is that no one will want it. It will have the wrong grip, or trigger guard, or buttstock, or widget. Everyone wants something different, if you offered what they wanted they would want something else just to be different. There were some group buys on the forum here at one time, but I think thats over now.

Besides, half the fun of converting is making these decisions, then finding the best deal on each part. The cheapest and easiest way is to just buy a converted gun from one of our vendors here.

    Cheapest?

I mean all the vendors do good work, but you're paying for their professional skills. Doing it yourself is the CHEAPEST if you take your time and are careful.

I have to disagree. I know i spent a lot more money converting it myself over just buying one from Tromix. The only reason I did not go that route is that no one really offered exactly what I wanted. (a 12C Clone) and I really wanted to do as much as possible myself. I do agree with the take your time and be careful part. I think everyone here has seen enough botched conversion posts.

  12. This is an AMD 65 wire folding stock complete with trunnion, locking hardware and sling loop. The kit it came from appears to be unissued. The folder is tight and has a solid lock up in the closed and opened positions. Rubber pad is in excellent condition. This still has the factory sling loop attached to the receiver. Please PM me if you need any additional photos. I am asking $45 shipped. I'll even throw in a couple free Izhmash logo decals. This item is cross-listed on other forums the first "I'll take it" date stamp gets the folder. Not interested in trades - I need a little cash to start another project.

  13. $1100 is a steal.....

Mine is a comversion using as many russian parts as the law allows. I added it up the other day and Parts, Labor and accessories (Factory Mags, Russian Sling, Kobra optics and an ACE Case) I have around $1830 invested. I don't mind though. I had to collect the parts and piece everything together for about 6 months and for me that's the fun part. (Still wish I had the Law enforcement only stamp for the extra evilness)

    P1050216.jpg

Things are only worth what people will pay for them. I really never intended to spend what I did on my conversion but once you jump in with both feet you are along for the ride until it's complete. If you don't you end up with a pile of junk that would be hard to sell.

IMHO $1600 for the SBR is not a bad price if that included the Tax stamp. I'm not sure where you would ever find a replacement barrell. I'm sure there is someone out there that really messed up the factory receiver and would sell the barrel off.
