  1. Yea, I meant to say flare on the roll pin. I figured a roll pin would be more "springy" and hold firm. I can push my pin in with my finger it's so loose (once I get it lined up with the spring!
  2. The pin wiggles out just enough to screw things up. Seems too short to peen over. Anyone have a roll pin that will fit long enough to peen out the ends?

    Belt Fed?

    Yep, that's the pic!

    Belt Fed?

OK, I just saw a pic of a belt fed S-12 today and now I can't find it! Anyone help? Any info on how this mod was done?
  5. Anyone tape their mags together to double the capacity? Seems like a good idea for HD so you don't have to worry about grabbing and lugging extra mags around.
  6. How to tell if the spring is reversed on a new gun without locking it up first! Will the BHO always ride up along the bolt like in the picture?
  7. Another thought, why is the switch so darn BIG on an AK? You'd think they could do with a normal sized lever. Does it need that much leverage to function?
  8. Is it possible, or useful, to put an ambi Fire/Safe switch on an S-12 for a lefty?
  9. Yes, I was reading it! Didn't look super hard, or super easy either! I think I'd need 5 hands to buck those rivets! On the bolted method. Looks like the trigger plate was removed. I thought that plate had to replaced with something or does that plate get tossed and just the TG possibly re-used? I assume the minor rusting is taken care of before refinishing?
  10. I was hoping to do the rivet, but not sure it's a DIY job. I can't weld and don't know anyone that does. I'd rather it looked somewhat professional over just simple bolts as I've seen in some of the conversions. What's the procedure to buck the rivet? Is it cold formed, or do you need to heat them up? How would you do it without beating the crap out of the receiver!
  11. Well, we are drilling out rivets to replace the FCG. I'd assumed they would be used to fill in the holes left and/or to affix the new FCG. The DPH website shows them as the #1 selling unit, so I figured they must come in handy! Here's the link http://dpharms.com/ak-receiver-swell-neck-...0b7cb7428d06977
  12. Yes, I've poked around the tech section a bit and read a lot of the links. Since I don't have the weapon in hand, it was still hard to see what had to be done. Some of the tutorials were for rifles, so I wasn't sure if all the steps applied to the S-12. I ordered some of the replacement swell neck rivets from DPH. Are these DIY types, or they need to be heated up and banged on like "real" rivets?
  13. Have my S-12 and some parts ordered (Tapco stock, grip, and FCG) so I can't check everything out to tell. Been reading some threads on conversions and wanted to know if I HAVE to remove the trigger guard & lower plate to do the pistol grip and FCG? I thought some were drop in? Do you just remove and discard, or does it need to be replaced with a new lower plate? While I'm doing this, should I go ahead and replace the stock gas piston? Any reasons other than 922r? Seems I have enough parts to be legal now and would rather spend the money on ammo, unless a new gas piston gives some
  14. Any advantage to a double hook?

    Which FCG?

Which FCG group should I get for my S-12? I know nothing of AK's. Can I use ANY FCG made for AK's, or does it have to be Saiga specific? What's this single/double hook I see on FCG's?
  16. Just placed my order with DPH. Great price at $79 for all three parts!
  17. I keep reading about parts made for either stamped or milled receivers. Are the latest Saigas stamped? They appear so, but want to be sure when ordering my parts!
  18. Is that OD or dark earth? I can't even find OD on the Tapco website now! I think I prefer OD over the desert brown that's popular now.
  19. I mentioned Classic's pricing to my dealer and they claimed it was under the price they paid for it! Must have gone through a few hands and not directly from RAA I guess.
  20. That's cool! Less of the "evil" black gun look. Did you buy all parts from the same maker? If I tried to part it, I think I'd end up with three different shades of green!
  21. Any try the olive drab buttstocks, grips, etc. on the Saiga? Just wondering how that would look, or just stick with basic black?
  22. Another brain burster - if 1022 becomes law, is a modified with US parts Saiga still a Saiga? Or does it become some sort of kit gun?

    Good Ammo?

Never had a shotgun before, so need some ammo direction! What's some decent range ammo? Stick with 2-3/4 or 3"? My range requires slugs for shotty's. I'll go with 00 buck for defense use, same thing 2-3/4 or 3"? Do the 3's kick a lot harder? Buy online, or walmart, dicks, etc.?
  24. Was at a local dealer who had an S-12 (too high, so I didn't buy) and they were maintaining that you could slap a 10-rd mag and go to town. None of the restricting laws apply!? I was arguing with them that anything over 5 made them technically illegal, but they kept saying the law was not passed yet? What gives! Even the threads in the 922r section are a little vague as to whether it's 100% required (what is "sporting" or not). Is everyone just doing the conversion to be 100% sure, or is it really the letter of the law?
  25. After missing out on all the good deals (Classic Arms) this shipment, I was able to connect with Pompano Pawn. Prices aren't fantastic ($489+tax) but I figure if I wait for the next shipment I'd be stuck with the price increase scheduled. I get nailed for taxes, but I'll be able to pick it up at a gunshow for no shipping or transfer fees! All told I figure I paid about $60-$80 more than if I had gotten lucky with Classic Arms this time, and maybe hardly any extra if I had waited for next Jan/Feb. Local dealer had one for like $650 (but they're always high). PP had both 108's and 109's whe
