  1. I have a 8x 42 POSP from a Romak PSL, I used to own. The bell is too big to mount on a Saiga with the iron sights in place. You would have to grind down the sight base and remove the sight leaf to mount it properly without running the scope tube into it, although the mount would fit the rail just fine. I suggest sticking to a 24 mm objective in order to avoid mounting issues. I plan to mount a Leupold 4X 32mm to a sight base and use that. If anyone is interested in a 8x 42 POSP from Kalinka Optics, let me know.
  2. Well, I ordered the parts and am waiting for delivery. Went and looked at my gun again to make sue I was set and noticed something I missed before. Seems like the factory tack welded the trigger plate to my receiver in 4 places. Is this a new thing or common on the .308 carbine? The welds are making me nervous as they are done in a triangular pattern. I guess I will have to very carefully grind/mill off the weld so as to just cut the plate off without damaging the receiver. Will require very slow and careful work. I assume that using a Dremel with the drill press accessory would work. If no
  3. NP, might be my fault for being a bit too sensitive about guns. heheh. Yeah the Remington 700 SPS is a nice gun, designed to compete with the FN PBR. I love the Hogue stock although I may change that out for a McMillan or HS Precision custom build one day. My 700 SPS Tactical went for ~ $500 and I got a $30 rebate from the manufacturer too. Waiting for the weather to get nicer in the spring again to take it to the range for practice making little groups, the dirt roads get very nasty here in the PNW this time of year.
  4. I should clarify that. I own AR-15 systems, that is what I got used to in the Corps. From what I have seen I consider the modern AR10 just an overgrown AR-15. I have not looked at a DPMS LR308 and I have not had the need due to my bolt rifles. I respect your opinion of them and may look at one in the future if I feel the need for a .308 semi-auto for precision work.
  5. Hey Motopilot. I am not an AR addict. I think they ineffective and major jam-o-matics. I own some because of the modularity, good accuracy and because I got used to one in the USMC. My point was that the platform is better for sniper/precision work then the Saiga. The original poster pointed out he was looking for a semi-auto and did not want to spend the money for a decent M1A. I was trying to give him a choice of alternatives. I did not push the FAL as they also get costly if you want better then 2 MOA average accuracy. Personally, I will take a bolt gun over a semi-auto for precision
  6. I would not go with any semi-auto except maybe SIG, HK or AR15/AR10 for sniper/precision rifle work. Most of the systems are not tight enough or introduce problems due to piston movement to be very accurate. Precision rifles should be sub MOA (1/2 MOA or better if you are serious) to be even considered for the job. Othterwise you are just posing and will never do the job right. If $$ are your problem the new Remington SPS 20" tactical rifle can be had for under $600 and will produce excellent results, as will a Savage model 10FP. Otherwise plan to buy an AR-10.
  7. Hi all, Just joined up. I have several AK variants but could not pass up a new Saiga .308 carbine for under $340. I have a conversion in mind, already looked some tech notes on it and inspected my gun to make sure it would work. Getting a Tapco G2 trigger, Tapco M249 grip and a Kvar AK-74 stock. Also ordered some high cap mags for it.Might add a muzzlebrake or flash hider if someone points me to one that works on a Saiga. I will not be cutting barrels or doing much else. Maybe playing with the forward handguard shape and cutting some cooling vents. I figure this is the poor mans M1A SOCO
