Mild-moderate recoil, very tolerable; have only played with it a little, at 25 yds, fairly tight pattern.

You need to check out the speer lawman oo buck we've been talking about. Headshots at 25 yard. Check the past threads or run a search on this forum for " Speer lawman".

I prefer the increased payload and power of the 12 pellet 00 buckshot loads. Sometimes a bit of a spread is good, and the 12 pellet loads have 50% more power in the same package as the 8 pellet ones.

 

If I want slug like performance I'll use a slug.

How would you compare it to the S&B?

Have used S&B in past but never done head to head comparison. You should pick up a box of the Nobel (think it's $4-$5) and try it out. Also agree the Speer Lawman comes very highly regarded.

Where did you get the 900-1000 fps numbers for the S&B?

 

My understanding is that there are two different fps levels for both the #4 Buck and the double-aught S&B ammo. The lower one starts out at 1,080 fps while the stouter loading is in the 1,200 fps range.
