ghostphaledax1 0 Posted March 13, 2007 Report Share Posted March 13, 2007 first off im really exstatic about my new rifle. it's a 21'' barrel saiga 308, with a normal buttstock so no pistol grip, all black synthetic. it's intended for mid to long range I want ideas for accessories and the like. so far this is what I got "for ideas" scope POSP 3-9x42 1200 m / Rubber Eyepieces / AK G2 Double Hook Trigger Group / not sure what bi-pod to get, I have a universal one that attaches to the sling swivel, but it dosn't fit at all, Im thinking of the ones that grip the barrel, any ideas on that? anywho one big project is the recoil suppressor. not sure how efficient the Russian Saiga Skeletonized Stock is, even though it looks awsome, any thoughts on that? Im thinking of doing it home style buying some hydraulic shock absorbers, drilling holes on the buttstock, and cause it's hollow fastening them with metal: bands, bolts, nuts and washers, wrapping the effected area with paracord. finally attaching Rubber butt pads to the ends of the hydraulics. making for faster more accurate follow up shots. Do the 20rd mags work well from FBMG ?? well I think thats it. gunguy51 0 Posted March 13, 2007 Report Share Posted March 13, 2007 shadows the stock you want to use wouldn't work with the tapco trigger to use the tapco trigger you would have to do a converison. i would suggest the redstar trigger it's fully adjustable. you might use a choate dragnov stock recoil buffer and a muzzlebrake as these will reduce recoil too about in half. the scope should be alright. to show what this would look like check out sagianov inthe search box under sagianov and look for my sagianov gunguy51 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Personally, I'd still like to be able to use an original SVD bipod (attaches to the receiver), but I've been extremely lazy trying to go about doing that. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

My first suggestion is to shoot the weapon as is before you make any modifications or add accessories. Personally, I find the weapon to be front heavy, which helps with managing recoil but makes offhand shooting a little more challenging. It's for that reason that I'm not adding a bipod. I'm more comfortable shooting from a prone position with just the sling anyway. I agree with tokageko in staying away from attaching directly to the barrel as it will affect the barrel's ability to flex as naturally as possible when firing. I have the skeletonized stock for my .308 and so far it seems serviceable. The cheek pad rotates out of the way when using iron sights and gives you about two inches more height in stock weld when in use. I'm waiting for a Saiga brand scope mount to use for my 3x9 Barska. Speaking of stock weld, that's my biggest problem with my Saiga rifle right now. I haven't figured out a way to make sure I am consistently getting the same stock weld each and every time I sight in with the weapon. It is easy on the M16 because I just make sure my nose is touching the charging handle. Makes for consistent placement every time and contributes greatly to overall accuracy. My standards of accuracy for the Saiga .308 with iron sights is zero at 200m, head shots at 100-200m, body shots at 300-600m. With the scope I think I can eventually get good enough to pull off head shots at 600m. If I could find a 1000m range around here I'd really love to see what she could do! If you are using a PSOP, the rubber eye piece forces you to put your eye in the same spot, every time. And if you take it off, there is pretty much no way to get the same sight picture. I will go with the Choate Dragunov Stock, and change tapco to red star arms triggers. and work on muzzle break instead of a bipod, in anycase a tree branch or well placed log would serve even better than a bipod. I have found a few muzzle breaks online like the "Phantom .308-5C2 Comp/Flash Suppressor" I have yet to go to my firearm store to see what they got.
