Will a Saiga .223 Work Better w/ Bad Ammo Than a .223 AR?

Recommended Posts

Would the Saiga .223 be a much better choice if using steel or laquered Wolf ammo than an AR would be? Most people say that the AK is able to withstand the usage

of bad ammo for a much longer time, and just wanted to check if that carries on with the .223 Saiga models.

The Saiga .223, being an AK, should be much more forgiving with the lacquered ammo.

Hate to say this, but don't own a Saiga, yet....will soon, though....I DO have a Bulgarian .223, and think it a fair comparison....when new, I took the rifle to the range for 4-days straight, fired an average of 100rds per day with the gun, and put the gun away dirty every night....ammo was 15-20yr old mix of dirty Norinco, old white-box American Eagle, several mystery mil-surps in cardboard, old PMP South African, several makes showing case corrosion on numerous cases....gun began failing to extract empties from the chamber near round 400, due mostly to the 120rds or so straight of Norinco stuff which gummed up the extractor hook....cleaning out the hook at the range with a piece of ammo box cardboard had it running again.....my Army experience with the A1 and A2 says don't try that with those guns....
