IndyArms 10,186
Well, I have owned 11 Saigas, and currently own 9. all came in through my LOCAL FFL dealer. If they were not legal, I do not think he would have gotten them in. Much less allow his books to be annually inspected by the ATF... They are always for sale at gunshows. No worries, they are LEGAL. Just keep up with 922R statutes if you plan to convert. Thats all...
naes 0
Thanks for the input, the wording of these laws can be confusing. I just don't quite get how AK type rifles are not a "copy" of the original. I really like these rifles, but don't want to get into anything that could result in loosing my other firearms. If you think it's to much of a risk, don't get one. In fact, you ought to surrender all of your firearms, just to be on the safe side.

44rdv4rk 0
sorry naes, I must be man-struating. In all seriousness, It's perfectly legal. buy it, enjoy it, shoot the hell out of it. I love mine. It's even legal to convert it here in NY, as long as you stay away from folding stocks.
naes 0
No prob man. Well, I'm a few steps ahead of myself. I got my Saiga 308 about a month ago. Its a great shooter. It's actually my 3rd Ak type rifle. It's just that in light of recent events, I started really looking into NYS gun laws and began to question their legality as the wording is a bit odd. I couldn't imagine why any NY dealer would want an illegal gun on their books anyway. Just wish I could legally get some higher cap mags for it. On another note, anyone know how to prove that 30 round AK mags are truly pre ban?
44rdv4rk 0
...On another note, anyone know how to prove that 30 round AK mags are truly pre ban? no way to prove it, except for rarer 'collectible' mags, like bakelite, aluminum waffles, or russian slabsides. I just avoid obviously post-ban ones, like promags and those bulgarian "bullet" mags (with the bullet design imprinted on the side) some more cautious people only use steel milsurps. The way i look at it, as do the troopers in my area, is no date = preban the only truly safe way, in these days of "guilty until proven innocent" is to limit yourself to these really, though, almost anything is fine, as long as you're not making a spectacle of yourself. (NYC and Rochester excluded because of their own 'mini-AWB's') edit: nice long barrel .308 Edited April 23, 2007 by 44rdv4rk
naes 0
Limiting myself to those crappy 10 round mags is exactly what I did this week because of the bad press lately.
