halloween78 0
I don't have the capabilities to do the conversion myself. Is there anyone (with FFL) who is providing the service? I saw Messiah Jones post, but I wouldn't want him to have problems over the FFL issue.
1st Ranger 0
I recently exchanged emails with Arizona Expert Arms, and they will be doing the conversion. Here is a copy of my email and their response (sent to azexarms@hotmail.com): Dear sir/ma'am, I would like to find a reputable gunsmith to convert my S12 following the AWB sun setting next week. You have been recommended to me on one of the popular forums. I have a few questions for you and if you have the time to answer them, that would be great: 1. Will you be performing Saiga 12ga conversions from the current style stock to a PG layout? 2. How much will you be charging for the conversion? 3. Will you provide the parts necessary or can we send them along with the shotgun (i.e., trigger group, PG, Butt stock,)? Thank you very much for your time. Their response: 1. Yes 2. 300.oo, including complete refinish and return ship. 3. customer provides all parts. $300 sounds like a good deal for the conversion and a refinish job, so I may just send mine to them. I am still on the fence because I don't want to admit to myself that I can't handle doing the conversion myself. Anywho, I hope this helped. Oh, for what its worth, apparently, if you already own the S12, you can send it to him, and he can send it back, without going through a FFL, at least that's what his website says. From my own personal experience, after having sent a rifle back to a gun dealer for inspection, they would not send it back to me, but would only send it back to the FFL who transferred it to me. That may have just been their policy, though, and not reflective of the law. 1st Ranger
Mephis 82
Dude, JUST SAY NO! $300 is WAY to much to drill 5 rivits and reblu a gun. I could understand that if he included the parts, but dont damn do that. Im going to make the attempt to do it and ive never worked on a gun in my life.
Tokarev 0
Derek refinished a FAL for me and did a friend's Galil. He does nice work. He doesn't reblue, he uses bake-on paint and has several colors available. IIRC, he gets $200 for a refinish job.
Integratedj 1
His refinish jobs are well worth it, and he really pays attention to details. I am going to have him refinish my sar 1 if I don't like the finish that messiah jones uses and suggested to me for my saiga12 that I just converted.
Mephis 82
So he only charges $100 labor for a PG conversion? Cause i wasnt going to refinsh it, just spraypaint it, works fine.
Integratedj 1
If you don't need a refinish, just do it yourself. all you need is a dremel, a drill, a screw driver, and about 2 hours, maybe less. very easy. what state are you in? if in Az I will help you. halloween78 0
Well, there's no way in hell I'm paying $300, but I'm pondering doing it myself. Er, I'm in El Paso... but if someone could give me directions, that would help out a lot.
