(another) stock question and optics mount question

Recommended Posts

The saiga 12 does come with the optics mount on the left of the receiver.

I currently have a black Kvar made, "nato length" stock on mine. I am not very big on folders, since the only practical need for them seems to be for easier storage and transportation, at least for me.

I like the telescoping stocks alot though, I just can't bring myself to put an AR type stock on any AK. The ace SOCOM is very nice. I ordered one for my sar1 along with one of the receiver adapters like what Blackjack sells. It turned out to have a fairly large gap where the stock screwed onto the receiver adapter, and just didn't look right. I sold it to a friend that has one of the bushy M4 type rifles. He loves it.

The Ace folders are built really well, and are well worth the money they ask for them.

I am going to figure out a clean way to weld on a rail to mine in a similar setup to my Ultimak, and then mount a Red dot of some sort on it.

Great, I scratched an additional optics mount off my master goodies list; I wasn't looking forward to playing with rivets anyhow.

Hmm it looks like I'll have to stick to the Ace skeleton stock/folder and the folding mech/receiver block sticking out the butt end since it sounds like mounting the SOCOM won't give much better results (and costs more). That is, unless the receiver adaptor for the AR stocks can be shaved down for a tighter fit...but considering I've never seen a setup up close, what I suggested might not be remotely possible.

I shouldered MickPorno's the other night (he has a collapsable AR stock on his). He likes it, but several others found the stock to ride a bit high for the factory sights. I do think it be much better if he ever decides to mount a dot, but as many competitions don't allow optics I don't think he (or I for that matter) will rush to get one.
